HELP? Windows XP keeps restarting over and over again at startup...
So I just got my new machine all hooked up and installed xp pro and sp1 and i was installing some stuff when the computer stopped responding. So I restarted, and at the "windows xp" startup screen it all the sudden reboots.... then it gets to the same black windows xp startup screen and reboots, and over and over again....
I have booted into safe mode and it does the same thing. I cant boot off the xp cd. I have no clue whats going on. could this be a virus of some sort? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez help me. ![]() |

If it's a new machine, how would you have gotten a virus?
Maybe it's a conflict - video card, USB, or something? |

You could open the case and re-seat all PCI/AGP cards, if you think its a hardware issue... but it doesnt sound like one. Its possible though.

Easy. Just install Linux.
Sounds like you toasted your MBR. Make a boot disk or go into BIOS and make sure that booting from CD is enabled. What kind of computer is this? If it's HP, Compaq, Gateway, they have utilities and crap that you can either try or need to disable to really work on it. |

But if you goto this place http://tinyurl.com/33sd and click on "How To Run a Repair Install" it will tell you have to install windows OVER your existing copy.... It keeps all your settings and users. If that doesnt work then I don't know.

Personally I'd do a full delete and repartition of your HD, fdisk /mbr, and then reinstall.
Or just install superior open source OS with no DRM bullshit. |
