I can't tell yet, but I think I am screwed... well, neutral which is the same as screwed.

I have MANY high quality crosslinked sites with high relavency etc and I know they have been super spidered, but they are just not showing up in the index AT ALL. So I do think that google has gone back to an older archive for the time being. WTF?

I find it hard to believe that anchor text can be penalized... that is one of the only ways to actually determine link relevancy/accuracy...

It will be nice if google remove all the cheaters from the key spots...

They use a really cool engine right now that is hard to cheat or control but seems they need to improve it a bit.

i've noticed. i had a site that was #1 for it's keyword on google since i put the darned thing up. then one day, blammo. it fell off google search results completely. i looked at every "o".

so i messed with the keywords in my meta tags and it went up to third place. then it fell off again so i reworked my keywords again and it came back to the top, and then it dissappeared but it's back at #1 tonight.

what's this about different servers? am i merely connecting to a different google server when i go there each time?

If your site is new that might explain it.
New sites seem to wander around abit.

Is your site new? Changes new?

oh, and i don't think that i'm being penalized by google for spamminess. maybe i am but golly. my domain is a one-word typo. the site name is the same as the domain. i have actual readable content on it.

the sites that get listed above me are freeking spam-o-rific cerkle jerks, and one non-adult page.

Google considers blogging a positive thing for batching/theming links as they have all been edited by humans. Essentially if its in a blog its a good link.... hmmm.. well apparently they are. Also blogs are regularly refreshed and this is considered positive aswell.

Good new listings for me

I fucking love it when I reclaim first spot after dropping to second before! mwhahahaa!

Interesting how many people assume it's all finished. It's far from finished yet but how quickly it will finish and how much it will continue to change is impossible to tell at this stage.

Interesting if slightly scray stuff at the moment.

The thing with the anchor text and sites being penalized for that is a nonsense.

And to be in the mood of the thread, yeah, I lost some damn good positions. Pretty weird stuff.

My advice is to wait and see after a few days how are the results.

anchor text is not being penalized very much as i can tell.

Inbound anchor text means alot

Go to google and search for the word "hits"

The #2 slot is a page without any words in the entire page that contains the words hits its all to do with inbound anchor text

and has for quite awhile

I've gone from a number 7 position on a very popular keyword to non existant, however I am listed number 1 on some of my lower traffic keywords.

In my favored results I am seeing plain PR and titles up a little bit over anchor text emphasis. Some of my biggest competitors who were all about anchor text are just not there. There is a big thread on Webmasterworld.com about this.

Things look different right now from yesterday so they may be back by the end of the day and the results will be different.

I absolutely agree with your second point. A year ago this thread would have been 5 pages already. When Verotel raised their rates it barely got 5 posts the other day. We are drowning in crap here these days.

Depending on the time of day or the traffic or whatever other reason possible, you may be getting results from other servers.
go to
http://www.google-dance.com
type in your keywords or phrase, on the arrow choose 'all 10 servers' and then check all the boxes on the other servers - you can choose to see the top 100 listings if you wish - but this will give you an idea of where you stand on all there servers at the moment and at times, they aren't the results google is giving you on a simple search.

Just checked a few phrases, but they all have totally different pages in the top10.
I definitely noticed it. Hopefully things will go back to the way they were.

It's widely theorized that there will be a small penelty to sites using spammy inbound text.

Yes the IPO is scary. I cannot imagine them NOT doing some severe, stupid changes along with the IPO such as putting much more paid links on the result pages or introducing a paid inclusion

Patience. Everything else is either hype, bullshit, conjecture or just plain wrong.

Give it another 24-48 hours to settle. Certainly something major is happening and not stable yet.

Patience my friend. Sometimes it's better to know there are less of us out there that aim for quality traffic. In 2-4 years when the TGP guys end up giving up on their shitty traffic and start migrating to SE traffic, you'll be light years ahead of them, as we all will be, and will end up on top no matter what.

This update is definitely hardcore. Personally I think the dust will settle this week or the next. It may be their way of sifting through the spam, to catch, and ban them. You won't know for sure though until after the update is complete. No need to get upset just yet.

To be honest I think you could be right. Whatever it is is MAJOR and the 48 hours I said may be far too conservative. Amazing how many people panic too quickly. Bit of a bitch losing good placings for a week or so but not the end of the world providing they come back. If not just need to find out why and away you go again!

There are nearly 100 pages on webmasterworld.com about this now. There is a Google rep who posts cryptic statements and he is alluding to "...keyword-in-link are deader 'n disco..." etc.

Although I am taking heat for saying this at least in my result sets several big competitors who were pumping relevancy through anchors are totally gone.

Last night my missing site reappeared in the listings and today I am sitting pretty with a #6 result out of 3,600,000.

Wow.... keywords in anchors are the lifeblood of many of the spammers, so that makes a lot of sense.... which means they will have to do tie in keyword density on linker page and linkee page and ignore the text content of the anchors themselves. This is actually a good thing for increasing the value of image based linking and for legitimate pages with high in-linking.

It's the index pages of allindomain sites that have been dropped from their corresponding serps.

GG said there will be a patch; they will patch the algorithm and spin the wheel again. The index pages will return to the SERPS.

G(oo)gle that.
