Google shakeup?

Am I the only one to see a huge shakeup of Google results?
Some of the big spammers are totally gone?
Just checked a few phrases, but they all have totally different pages in the top10.

Troels 11-15-2003 08:45 AM

And I guess jojojo is working.
His omnivids and roccomovies results are gone.

Definitely a shakeup happening here.

Yeah, they haven't updated since august, with rumors floating around that the delay was due to a MAJOR house cleaning and anti-spam measures.

Hopefully this is an opportunity for more legit practices to dominate, but I have my doubts that they can really clean it up. They better because spammers are really ruining their "relevance" which is their entire value proposition, specially if they are about to do a multi billion $$$ IPO.:2 cents:

Troels 11-15-2003 08:58 AM

Hmm some big spammers are gone, but I see geocities spam back in the top 10 :(

Still spammy pages in most top10's but not as bad as before.

ryph 11-15-2003 09:04 AM

Damn, some of my sites that have been in the top 10 for months are no where to be seen while some booted to page 2. Hope this shakeup will level off, or it's back to the drawing board. lol

lol, I saw that as well. This is what WG was talking about with his "guarantees".

spammers are still there
i know tons of legit sites (some of mine included) who are gone now too.....

but i dont really worry
what i noticed.....
yesterday one of my flagships was gone from its #1 position......
wasnt on the next 10 pages either.....

now today it is back to where it belongs

we will see what google is doing
not sure if this is a normal dance
dont think so

Troels 11-15-2003 09:14 AM

I'm seeing more subpages and subdirs listed.
Before it was mostly root listings in the top10.

Lurky 11-15-2003 09:23 AM

Google spam is often good for adwords users. When the top 10 keyword search results all go to some randomly stuffed page that has little relevance it probably encourages the surfer to click on those ads that at least have some content to them.

vicki 11-15-2003 09:39 AM

Don't panic or celebrate yet, they are still shuffling if you look at results from their 4 main servers

here's the url for that result tool
http://google-dance.miniunternehmen.de/

vicki 11-15-2003 09:41 AM

oh .. also, the final settle down is usually what shows on server 2 or 3 during shuffle

so far my heavy hitters are still where they should be thank goodness!

Troels 11-15-2003 09:53 AM

I'm seeing totally different results than the google-dance results. Totally different.

EscortBiz 11-15-2003 10:01 AM

yup many many guys gone

yes, thats exactly what it usually shows during a BIG shuffle .. give it two days or so to settle down

Tipsy 11-15-2003 10:20 AM

Google is a bit scary at the moment. I keep getting sites both adult and non appear, vanish then appear again. Like has been said it needs to settle before I'll get too worried though. Just hope that when it does the sites are all back :)

Troels 11-15-2003 10:31 AM

The results are settled here in Europe.
www, www2 and www3 are identical.

Doesn't mean it's finished. The servers AREN'T identical for all terms (but then haven't been for a very long time now) if you check enough and sites are still popping up and vanishing again.

Troels 11-15-2003 10:38 AM

Maybe not finished, but it's settled down. Few pages might move around.

Good update! :)

jimmyf 11-15-2003 10:41 AM

some of my 1st pages are like page 10 now

gornyhuy 11-15-2003 10:44 AM

Looks pretty settled in US right now too... Hmmmm.

horrible update.....
good and content rich pages with #1 spots on keywords bringing 3-4k searches a day are not to be found on the next 10 pages

how gay is that
and all the big spammers are still where they were before.
some even got way better results now

:feels-hot

Surfers give up if they don't find what they are looking for, fool.

If they are being bombarded by spam ads and all the moronic shit that is making it into the listings why would they go out of their way to click on more ads?

Muff 11-15-2003 10:51 AM

The update looks old... Theres tons of spam pages in there. Maybe google is going back in time?

Or maybe shitty results will force users to click on paid inclusion links and they can boost their IPO to 50 Billion instead of 20.

yes
i heart the same from tons of guys thinking exactly the same

looks like 6 months old
however
this wouldnt make sense???
what was better 6 months ago....
there was the same amount of crap
and why would google make it impossible for new sites to come up
dont get that

Troels 11-15-2003 10:58 AM

No definitely new domains in there. We got our latest in.
But you're right. It does look like similar pattern as a few months ago, sexed up with a few new domains.

angelsofporn 11-15-2003 11:07 AM

this is a major change. All i see is tons of topic relevant stuff gone from the index. The subdomain spammers have completely taken control
look at this

http://www.google.com/search?num=100...ing+break+pics

Looks like the key now is crosslink heavily...google totally owned on this update...keyword stuffing and crosslinking...bummer

dayum!

what's really weird, my main site which has been #1 for its phrase for over 8months, is nowhere to be seen:(

princess 11-15-2003 11:17 AM

I've noticed a huge difference

whom do you tell
http://www.google.com/search?num=100...break+pictures
little different keyword
i had as on 100 other gr8 keywords AWESOME positions
and now

want another fucked up one:
http://www.google.com/search?num=100...shirt+contests

plus tons of others......

also i was just told:
"google went back atleast a couple of months
if you search for madonna nude
you'll see that the amazon pages are back at the top"
they havent been there for months!

this is a small proof that google defently went back to older months updates for whatever reason
i also found more stuff to proof that on totally different keywords

pretty fucked up

cluck 11-15-2003 11:38 AM

Not much difference over here, but I don't do adult SEO and I don't use alot of already heavily spamed terms.

PeekHoles 11-15-2003 11:47 AM

This is a really screwy update. I have several pr5 sites that have been in the top 5 for over a year. Now there kicked back to page 3 and most of the sites on page 1 or pr3. This makes no since I hope things get better.

Splash 11-15-2003 12:13 PM

I can definitely live with these Google changes. Although Google has indexed the site I edit for years, seaches on "blonde+black+stockings" or "brunette+tan+stockings" never brought up the site going pages in and now they are in the top 3. There's no logic to it though as the *archives* page is the one showing up as indexed and the *main* page is viewed 500,000+ times a day. And the Google foreign extensions(.de, .it, .fr, etc) are now sending traffic they never were before. Freebies!:thumbsup

didn't say i think google spam is cool you tard. sayin' my adwords ratios have been great since a spammer got all the top placements on a lucrative set of keywords. his pages have no keyword-related content so fuckit... my clicks and roi have been great since he showed up. now suckitbitch :thumbsup

Smokey The Bear 11-15-2003 02:23 PM

Checked some sites last night and was suprised to find i had gained a few THOUSAND listings ( i almost shit my pants ) then 2 seconds later lol they were all gone hahaha.

Today most are looking pretty close to what they were before. ( even a few big jumps )

Brad-Wishing 11-15-2003 02:26 PM

Things are changing for sure.

mardigras 11-15-2003 02:54 PM

I was #1 for a search phrase for a year or more then suddenly fell near the back for months, came back last week at #7 and now am not there at all. BUT google DID manage to put a pop-up hell at #1 for that search phrase. If I put it in quotes (the phrase is in my title) Google says there are no sites that match my search. WTG Google, we need more sites with nothing but pop-ups and none with content!

mardigras 11-15-2003 03:00 PM

I just checked another one of my sites that has never been higher than the 3rd page back or so and only if I got really narrow with the search. Now it's on the first page using the search phrase intended, go figure... Google is Goofy:1orglaugh

NoCarrier 11-15-2003 03:08 PM

One of my toughest competitors vanished over night. I am celebrating right now. I won.

Hard work. Rich keywords. Won the game.

Cheers.

The more I look around, it's looking like the algo was just changed. None of my sites are banned, or any pr dropped. Just alittle tweeking once this is all settled and I *think* I can be back.
Hope your competitor was banned:Graucho

Jon 11-15-2003 03:24 PM

I haven't seen much of a change regarding adult kw's.. But my mainstream kw's have got my sites not showing up in the top 1000.. but, no need to worry, the update continues, so I guess we'll see the final outcome of everything within the next few days.

On-top 11-15-2003 03:28 PM

Yeah, it was a big switch on something. A lot of the number one spot people aren't even in the running anymore. Interesting...

extreme 11-15-2003 03:29 PM

looks good, gained some on very competetive keywords with honest pages.

Shoplifter 11-15-2003 03:30 PM

It looks like they are penalizing for anchor text spamming. Still looking to see what is up.

alexg 11-15-2003 03:33 PM

my pages seem to be improving so I'm happy

This time they are really de-emphasizing anchor text relevancy.

HS-Trixxxia 11-15-2003 05:35 PM

I haven't read all your responses and I've been keeping my fingers crossed - I am noticing however that these are older results perhaps early 2003. There is definitely a shuffle...but I'm seeing the spammers that were there prior to June in my targetted keywords & phrases.

Odin88 11-15-2003 06:17 PM

Spammers still own the terms I am after. Even more so now. Some legitimate sites that were on the frontpage have dropped back 100-150 results. :(

woj 11-15-2003 06:18 PM

50 google spammers
