I'm not in the poll because I wasn't going to participate but I decided to whip this up in an hour or so last night for Neriah since she's such a great girl. I normally only have ever designed for myself. So here it is, needs more work done, I only got an hour and a half in and most of that was thought. So hope you guys like and hope Neriah likes, I think it will bring people in for sure.

Hamlet's design is cool, but it should be carried through the rest of the site, too, including the member section.

If the member's section bears no resemblence to the cover, then members might get turned off, feeling they were cheated. :2 cents:

I'm not in the poll because I was late getting in since I decided to throw a little something together at the very last minute. But I think it's marketable for sure and would get surfers in the door!

It's dangerous to make assumptions such as saying that elegant doesn't sell. Particularly in this business, when renewals would/could/should earn more than initial sales, targeting the 'right' audience is at least as important as going flat-out for maximum impact.

Another mistake in this industry is that we all tend to climb on whatever bandwagon is rolling past. So at a given moment most designers are doing broadly similar work. As a result, only content differentiates one site from another and everyone ends up competing for a (very small) part of the total audience within their niche.

(That's the reason webmasters often claim that simple is best. It works not because it is simple, but because it appeals to a type of customer that fewer are fighting over. Sad reality is that between simple and the design style of the moment are maybe 80% of the potential customers that no-one is marketing to at all.)

Unless Neriah wants a change of image and certainly if she is happy to stress her Playmate status, then elegant is good. Playboy demographics (last time I checked) have most buyers at 35+ and well off. The whole Playboy 'thing' is about fantasy women. Playboy isn't in-your-face porn like Bangbus for example. Neriah's photographs (at least the ones used in these designs, are very much in that mold and if that is what you are selling, it would be crazy to pitch away from your natural audience to an audience that is looking for something else.

That's why I thought most of the designs were well on track. I have a feeling that Hamlet's design is scoring so well because of the logo. It is a cool logo but I would question its appeal to potential customers likely 10+ years older than the average age here. The rest of his design would work really well for them, but it is sublimated because the logo is so strong.

I think it was Fly described Madcapa's design as 'too rectangular', but IMO it strikes a good balance between creating the fantasy of a Playmate while using the thumbs to highlight Neriah's 'assets'.

In Neriah's place I would ask Harvey to redo the logo and Madcapa to rework his text to make the entry more obvious. If both agreed, I wouldn't make a decision until I had seen the results.

This was a great idea because of the sensory appeal, but the image looks contrived -- if she really wanted to pose on fruit for her own site, on the front page -- she would have done a pose especially for that purpose so she didn't look like she was falling off the cherry...

Yes, but this isn't art.. This is MARKETING. NOBODY is going to sell a site with art. They WILL sell a site with good layouts, appealing text, etc etc.. It's just like a newspaper ad, not a painting hanging in a museum, my dear.

Lol my tour for what? My specialty is design, TO SELL THINGS. Not design just for something pretty to look at.. I've been EXTREMELY successful at SALES, and THAT is what we're here for isn't it? Not an art review.. For your information I built most of Neriah's hosted galleries, and they do quite well.

Yes, but photography needs to be marketed too.. trust me, I'm a photographer, internationally published in the mainstream world. I had to market my stuff to get that far, you know. :P

I've been in this niche since '98 -- the vast majority of glamour pics are artistic... most of the guys surfing these softcore glamour sites are looking at pics scanned from fashion/photography/art magazines. If you know Neriah's referrers like I do -- you would know that -- I've been trading with those guys for a long time. What sells the site is the photography/art and the model.

So a design like mine basically then. Since I had to rush and do it in just over an hour, a little more work on it and it would be all good!

I agree, and you suck! i'm sure i saw something like your design back in the 80's except it was much higher quality. But that's OK.. It's hard not being the best or the most popular, i'm sure you'll get used to it, there there.
