People, use Mozilla for fuck's sake

It is superior to IE, has more options, a powerful popup stopper, a potent and learning spam filter, it's more secure, little flaws and it's fast. No more activeX dialer shit, no more auto scripts that fuck your default homepage and add millions of links in your bookmarks. Not to mention its email client that is brilliant.

Download it for free here.

P.S. Or use Firebird if you prefer the broswer only.

that is not true. I run the 1.5beta and it loads just as fast as IE. Granted, the Quick Launch is enabled, but that's nothing else than what MS is doing with its IE to speed up the execution.

Not to mention that Mozilla has a superior CSS support.

1. its not built into the operating system (therefore not standard)

2. its slow as shit, takes more than 2-3 seconds to open on our 2.5 ghz 1 gig ram machine. IE6 takes .5 of a second to load fully.

3. mpegs and wmv's don't seem to play or work half the time or require custom netscape codes to get them working, flash is buggy as shit in mozilla or hard to install.

4. Netscape used to be better and faster, but IE6 is about as perfect as it gets, almost never crashes, is super fast and not bloated. Would prefur a better bookmark favorites folder (better control would be nice) but thats about the only thing thats not perfect

Does integration into the OS mean it's a standard? Is Word not a 'standard' for word processing? Is it included? No. ICQ or AIM are almost standards for online real time chatting, are they included? No.

I don't see your point.

Granted, it takes 2-3 seconds to fully load, but it takes a split of a second to open another tab, which you can cycle through like you were using another IE window.

Do you play your MPEGs and WMVs in IE? I dunno about you, but I use Windows Media Player or other players to show those vids. And Mozilla sure knows very well how to execute the common file extensions.

Do you live in 1996? Sure, Netscape once used to be faster than IE, but in fact, I don't know why you bring this up. Mozilla is not Netscape.

And if you think that IE is flawless, you probably don't use it as much.

... mozilla prob. isn't slower to load then IE. The thing is that IE autoloads into memory every time you start windows. So when you think windows taking a long time to start up you can thank microsoft for forcing IE into memory for you =). Mozilla has an autoload feature too, difference is that Mozillas is optional.

that's what separates the men from the boys.

Something that will never fucking happen? Do you have any idea about the increasing popularity of open source software in general? And why do you think more and more free browsers are adopting the Mozilla cores?

Me? Horse blinders? I took mine off at the second when I realized how much of a pile of crap this product was, that Microsoft had forced me to use with their OS, because it came preinstalled and as an essential part of the OS as well. Wouldn't you think the one that doesn't look out for good alternatives it the one with the horse blinders?

How do you profit more than me who uses Mozilla? It's free. I did not pay a cent for it.

And if you think you're the man just because you are trying to get into an argument with me over something that I am not trying to sell anyone, but simply support (because I think it's a good product), then I suggest you lay your egotrip from Hooper's thread aside and go grab a cold one from the fridge.

not too shabby. Mozilla firebird still doesn't seem to handle plugins like IE does. It still isn't showing Gofuckyourself flash ads. I try and install flash but can't figure it out. I'll stick with IE until Mozilla gets easier.

I did not try Firebird on this machine, but the full Mozilla installed the plugin without giving me trouble. As easy as 1-2-3.

Did I mention that it supports skins as well?

Yup.

And when you get mozilla firebird, be sure to go to http://googlebar.mozdev.org and grab the google toolbar

Also replace your Outlook/Outlook Express for mozilla thunderbird.

i used opera for a couple months, didn't like it. especially the whole "slo-motion gif" thing.

i love firebird. it has both the html strictness every browser deserves, and even supports a few previously IE-only thingies.

IE is is crap. it can't even render html properly.

i didn't really like regular mozilla, but it was just because of the user interface. the one i downloaded had the netscape 7 buttons VERY poorly cut+paste on the traditional mozilla browser. it was so tacky they didn't even bother to match the colors. i hope they fixed that.

oh yeah, and firebird without any of the graphicy interface is pretty nice as well. makes the browser very compact as far as real estate goes. sure, no fancy graphics, but its nicer IMHO

Well, designers should still keep IE around just because 90% of the net uses IE.

The exploits and vulnerabilities on IE are enough to get me to stay away from it for casual surfing from now on.

ugh, don't remind me. i have to check my work with IE because of its bullshit.

you can write a 100% standardized html document with perfect code, and there's fairly decent chance that IE won't render it properly.

Personally, I would NOT recommend Mozilla. I have been working on a mainstream Website for months now, doing both the coding and the design. And if there is one thing I can tell you about Mozilla, is that the makers are far far behind in development on Netscape and Internet Explorer.

Sure, Internet Explorer seems to ignore almost every code fault, but Mozilla seems to be the other way around. I coded this site according to XHTML Strict W3C standards, and to give you an example, when I tried to put in the Strict tag in my code, Mozilla would fuck up the whole design (images which were supposed to be connected, suddenly were spaced out). Putting a standard tag back in the code, and everything went back to normal. WTF?

Creating a Website that looks exactly the same in Internet Explorer as in Mozilla is not easy. Simply because you have to take a step back when it comes to putting features in your Website. Therefore, when you surf with Mozilla, don't expect to see many Websites like they were supposed to be coded.

Plus yeah, it is much much slower than Internet Explorer when you havent got that autoload thingie turned on. My advice is, to keep using Internet Explorer, and when the time is ripe and Mozilla has reached a level so that it can really compete to Internet Explorer, switch over. Why do you think it's called 1.5Beta? It's a BETA!

I read this entire spiel thinking I would not repsond, but then I got to the last thing you said about it being a beta and realized I would no longer contain my comments.

The 1.5 beta version is not the current release. The current version/release is 1.4. The website clearly states the 1.5 is in a testing stage. Thus if you download/install the same you are agreeing to be a beta tester.

Furthermore most people surfing the net do not run out to upgrade their hardware/software the minute a new one comes along. You should avail yourself of the information that can be queried from people visitng your site[s] and/or sending you email. I know I do and susrprisingly a large number of people are still running Win98.

As a result state of the art programming in websites often turns away/off a large percentage of surfers who:

- Dont feel like installing a plugin at the moment.
- Dont feel like upgrading their browser at the moment.
- May not know how to do either.
- May be surfing on a system where they do not have rights to install necessary software/plugins eg: from work.
- May not be able to afford necessary to upgrades to their hardware/software.
- May be unwilling to spend the money to upgrade their hardware/software simply because they see the internet as something they rarely surf.

Last but not least remember that it is better to be thought a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

Mozilla has a potentially devistating bug for many users. It doesn't properly free up RAM after it's done using it. As soon as I open Mozilla, 30-45 minutes later it takes my computer out. It starts out with page rendering problems within the program, and then eventually all my other programs freeze up.

The only thing I can conclude from your statement is that Mozilla is indeed still too buggy too use, as I stated also. Version 1.4 is perhaps more stable than the 1.5 beta version, but it is also an older version and hence contains less improvements. Is that what you were trying to say?

Man, it seems a lot of the anti-mozilla people here do not realize that the pro-mozilla people here are not talking about the old mozilla but the brand new mozilla firebird. it was completely rewritten. and is just plain awsome.

ever since i read that joel spolsky had changed his browser to mozilla firebird i gave it a shot. i liket it so much its now my default browser.

Nobody can buy mozilla and you will never be able to download a new IE version because microsoft wants to put only new versions of the IE in there new operation system. The only way than to get a new IE explorer version is by buying a new windows
