WMD's? Again, who cares. I think it was lame that Bush felt the NEED to attempt to justify a war on something that IMO they knew was a toss up of them finding. They played the odds figuring they'd find something, and maybe get saddamm to use them during the invasion, etc. as I'm SURE those in the KNOW probably felt was REALLY going to happen (I don't buy most conspiracy theories. I'm a firm believer in never chalk up to malice what you can chalk up to stupidity). They also knew there was a chance what did happen, could happen. Were there other motives? Of course. But I honestly believe the primary objective was to remove saddam, and get rid of a longstanding "problem area" which happened to have known terrorist groups operating within it (whether sanctioned by the government or not).

Are folks denying that Saddam was going to say "naw, the surrender agreement I signed says I can't" when given the chance to develop a nuclear weapon? Yeah right. IMO America shouldn't have knuckled under to the EU/whomever (hey, outdates me a bit.

) during the first iraq war. We should have finished the job the right way then.

I am VERY ashamed of my country for what it did to the Iraqi people back then. Promising to help them out, and getting them to show popular support for regime change, and then sitting back and going "oh sorry, our "allies" think that we shouldn't escalate more than we have to.. I know we SAID we were going to help you out.. But.... Oh well.". Bush and everyone else involved with that decision I will never forgive. When we make a fucking promise, I expect it to be carried through, especially something where people are directly risking their lives on our word. I mean, this is elementary school stuff you learn.

I don't agree with much US policy when it comes to the mid east. I say leave the fuck alone. But since we got in there, it's time to clean up our mess. Everyone calling for the US to pull out of Iraq is just not thinking clearly. I could care less if you agree with the reasons, or the initial war, whatever. But what's done is done. I'm getting real worried all this "World sentiment" will pressure the US into pulling out prematurely, and guess what will happen then? Iraq will be worse off than before, worse daily conditions for their people, and probably another saddam (if not actually him). We now have a responsibility to build that country up to the best of our abilities, and at least attempt to show these people that while we make mistakes, we have good intentions at heart. I know the anti-US folks will sit there and say all Americans are evil, and we just wanted to steal their oil, and have our 51st state, etc. But quite honestly if you lived here, and talked with everyday folks nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone hopes our leaders "do right" by the people of Iraq, and this is why there isn't insane popular uprising against the 100 quadrillion dollars this is costing.

I dunno. I'm just real worried this will be a repeat of '91.. If that turns out to be the case, a whole new generation of people in Iraq and it's neighboring countries will grow up hating the US, and most of it actually justifiable.

I agree with Phil21, this time it needs to be followed through and ended. If we buckle under the pressure of anti-war and anti-Americans, it will cause a worse situation than what was already in place. Like walking away from a fire, while there's still flames. By the time you are a mile down the road, it will have engulfed the whole neighborhood.

Regardless of if WMD ever existed or if/when they surface, it doesn't matter now. A tyrant and his regime were taken out of power and if you think this was wrong, you obviously side with the enemy. Saddam was the world's enemy, not just a personal vendetta for Bush Jr. What it comes down to is greed and how much money you think it's going to cost (you). Most of the anti-war people are more pissed off about the costs, than the casualties. Then have the nerve to say, "we wanted their oil". If we wanted their oil and to own their country, it could have already been done. When the smoke clears, people with any sense of decency and brain power will see the moral to this story.
