So we all know the girl settled. According to CNN, she had over a thousand songs on her computer that she was offering for download thru kazaa.

So she wasn't just a 12 year old personal use downloader after all.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A day after being sued for illegally sharing music files through the Internet, a 12-year-old girl has settled with the Recording Industry Association of America.

She's the first of 261 defendants to settle their lawsuits with the association.

Brianna LaHara agreed Tuesday to pay $2,000, or about $2 per song she allegedly shared.

"I am sorry for what I have done," LaHara said. "I love music and don't want to hurt the artists I love."

The suit claimed LaHara had been offering more than 1,000 songs on the Internet, using the Kazaa file-sharing service.

Doesn't matter you being foreign, copyright law is also an international agreement so they can come for you anywhere...It's different from Patients and Trademarks which are country specific.

theres a difference between shoplifting and downloading songs... when you shoplift, you know its risky case someone is probably watching, whereas when you download no one is watching. or at least no one was watching until now.

sure my mom told me not to shoplift, but she knew nothing about computers and mp3s, how in the world was she supposed to tell me downloading songs was the same thing as shoplifting? she thought it was fun that i could download songs i had just heard on the radio. it was either that or i taped the songs when they played on the radio.

back in the napster days, i think no one really cared. downloading with napster was a real joke, you could download entire albums with ease and everyone who had internet did it.

so i guess we were all dumb and you the smart one.

#1 try following the thread for a bit you might actually learn something.

#2 NEVER have I defended the practice of file sharing, and this is not a defense for scammers and thieves. Jeez dude do you live in that black and white a world? It must be depressing.

The only point I am making is quit acting like some file swapper is the worst of the worst out there. Clean up your own backyard before pointing fingers elsewhere...because some of you are doing MUCH worse, or have done much worse in the past.

Shit, if growing up the worst thing I ever did was download some music files off of Kazza then I would have been a pretty good kid ;)
