This makes me cry when I read shit like this..

http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/08/20/te....ap/index.html

How can we actually have people in our judicial system that base their decisions on the 10 commandments.

How would u feel if you were muslim, walked into this guys courthouse and were on trial for murder or a judge under him.

U would not have a chance........

Good job Supreme Court!

Funny its the same way most non Muslims feel when they walk into a court that goes by the coran, in the middle east.
If I was a Muslim I think I rather be in a American court then a Muslim. Removal of body parts is not a form of punishment here.

church and state are supposed to be seperate, i hope this judge doesn't last long. yes most muslim countries probably go by the coran, i don't really know but the states are supposed to set an example for the rest of the world, not just adopt the 'they're doing it, so we can too' thinking.

Funny thing is... the 10 commandments, in that form, went out with the old testament.. but then.. lots of 'good people' still rely on the old testament to defend their beliefs...

it just amazes me that our society places so much value on a fairy tale.

do u know the ten commandments???

they are guidlines as to how to treat others and yourselves??
How is that horrible???
many of the laws which are in place are taken from these commandments...

such as thou shall not steal, cheat thy neighbour, not to kill???

could you imagine our society and lives if we did not live by some of these??

Gotta' love the sense of humor of Judge Myron Thompson's suggestion that the 5,300-pound stone monument "be moved to a less public site, such as Moore's office. "

Horse dudu.

The Ancient Greeks stood by these very simple rules before Moses was giving it to little boys...

These are not earth shattering rules.

They just happen to be on a tablet.

No, I agree that the commandments are necessary... they were law set to keep people in line back in the day... I mean common... a talking burning bush? The bible was written by men and it gets re-written by men every so often. It's nothing more than a story.. and we all know how stories get a bit different from one telling to another...

I really get pissed off when these politicians try to shove their morals upon us because of their beliefs... I don't believe the way they do or the way you do... so why is something moral for one and not another...

example... there is nothing wrong with nudity.... we come into this world nude... Why make us wear clothing? Because of adam and eve and the sin of shame.... fuck that...

Keep church and state seperate... that is all I ask... In a country founded on religious freedom... allow me MY RIGHT not to believe.

Transference is a frighteningly stark reality that people display when they least mean to.

Honoring and respecting the ten commandments does not mean that you automatically hate anyone from another religion, or that you give people of another religion any less rights than you give Christians.

You assume that because this man follows and believes in the ten commandments that he would unjustly convict someone of another religion - is that fear or hate talking?

nowhere in my statement did I say anything about the bible, your choice to not believe is yours and I don't put u down for that or anyone else.

I was just saying that the basis on which laws were created is there for a reason....to maintain law and order...

I don't believe in pushing one's beliefs on another, and how do u know what I believe besides what I have stated???

there is absolutely nothing wrong with nudity, it is in which it is perceived and exploited (like our wonderful jobs!)which makes clothing a neccessity for some that is....

your religious choices are excatly that choices. I have not stated mine yet I have had the opportunity to study many religions and have learned to take positive thoughts and use them to allow me to live a more peaceful life.

of course everything gets taken out of context, and what ppl don't take the time to understand is that some of those "stories" are "stories" like parables of which teachings and lessons are taught and should not be taken literally word for word..

I totally agree with Carrie..

The Pilgrims were in people fleeing religious persecution and bigotry. They immediately started the same regime in their new home, nice to see the practise still continues.

And it's the Koran.

the ten commandments is part of the bible so I guess that is why i mention that... and the rest is also based on these politicians that push their morals on us....

This country was founded on religion and religious freedoms. The people of England were being oppressed and went out to find their own country to practice their own beliefs. That country became the UNITED STATES! Now, the fact that the Native Americans were already here and those people decided to just about kill them all off and the rest put them on the worse part of the country and told them they can't go anywhere, is beside the point.

Isn't it bad etiquette to talk about religion at the dinner table? I think they should make it bad etiquette to raise religious issues on this board just for the pure reason that all these "Christian" debates never seem to reflect the alternative religions of the world.

Before you all throw me to the lions, I do see the value in the commandments, however I just don't feel it's my place to preach my beliefs to others. Isn't that why they have preachers?

I think the only commandment should be "Do by others as you would have them by you" - i.e. treat everyone with respect, courtesy and dignity.

Funny, everyone always talks about the 10 commandments, but if one were to actually READ the biblical account, there are THOUSANDS of commandments.

The "big 10" are simply sensical, for the most part. As far as it's concerned, one doesn' t have to be religious to understand that it's wrong to kill another person. Having religion rule law and it's excecution, however, is wrong. Religion generally has a different agenda. One shouldn't need church to tell them that killing, lying, and stealing are wrong, nor what to do about it.

No where in the King James Version of the Bible does it say Thou Shall not kill. It says Thou shall not commit murder. There's a big difference between the two. And it's the fundamental problem with most religions. Everyone likes to make it say whatever they want. Every religion puts their own spin on it.

And seeing that there isn't a person alive today that can speak or interpret Ancient Hebrew, the language the Old Testament was written in. It amazes me how so many base their very soul on it. The best and the brightest scholars in the world have at best been able to translate about 1/3 of the text. So at best what we see today is about 70% just a guess. Not to mention the way words and their meanings tend to change over the years. For example the phrase "Far out" 50 years ago could mean a literal distance to something or it could mean that someone is deep or interesting or just crazy. But these people just refuse to accept the facts and going on preaching what they believe based on what they were told. It's pathetic.

Only if they can prove you lust after others...of course, no doubt you've put in some "I'd hit it" comments. There's no deadly sin for causing other people's lust

I think most of us would be nailed for greed though
