How is that horrible???
many of the laws which are in place are taken from these commandments...
such as thou shall not steal, cheat thy neighbour, not to kill???
could you imagine our society and lives if we did not live by some of these??

No where in the King James Version of the Bible does it say Thou Shall not kill. It says Thou shall not commit murder. There's a big difference between the two. And it's the fundamental problem with most religions. Everyone likes to make it say whatever they want. Every religion puts their own spin on it.
And seeing that there isn't a person alive today that can speak or interpret Ancient Hebrew, the language the Old Testament was written in. It amazes me how so many base their very soul on it. The best and the brightest scholars in the world have at best been able to translate about 1/3 of the text. So at best what we see today is about 70% just a guess. Not to mention the way words and their meanings tend to change over the years. For example the phrase "Far out" 50 years ago could mean a literal distance to something or it could mean that someone is deep or interesting or just crazy. But these people just refuse to accept the facts and going on preaching what they believe based on what they were told. It's pathetic.
