I dont ride that style of bike because then you have to wear the gay tights to fit in.. I ride mountain bikes. Do a bit of trail riding when I'm traveling but nothing too extreme.

Here in FL is not much hills but where I live I'm at 1 end of about a 30 mile bike path that runs along the St Johns river in a lot of places. I do about 12 miles a day on it.

Its roughly 6 miles to the end of the path that dead ends into a state park and there are a few parks along the way with natural springs so I ride that almost everyday with a bit of off path riding through the woods mixed in. (Lots of little dirt trails off the main one through the canopy)

Two Raleigh mountain bikes.

Haven't ridden in awhile, tho. Both have flat tires and I've been too lazy to fix'em.

I added to my post, but if you go Mountain bike look at 29ers or 27.5 at the smallest.

A good 29er is night and day difference. By good I dont mean some ridiculous $4k bike but something in the $800-1,2k range will usually be good enough for normal use.

As for mountain bike vs road, I guess it just depends on your area really.

There are also what they call gravel bikes. They are a road bike like set up with larger offroad tires. You can use them both on and off road. They call them cyclocross or gravel bikes.

Where I live is hillside mostly but plan on taking trips throughout Scotland so it's basically anywhere and everywhere really. Various conditions both track and weather...

I just bought myself a new bike a couple of months ago. Love it. I ride for about 30 minutes to an hour every day (and swim for about the same). Biking is a really good way to stay in shape and shed a few pounds. I'm on my fat ass at my computer all the time and Biking in the summer months really helps me from turning into a bowl of Jello. Buy it!

This why I do it. Out in Colorado I used to go hiking more than mountain biking but still would do Apex mountain or some of the others from time to time.. Here in FL everything is flat and it's hot as hell so I just do a ride each day before it gets too hot and before the mosquitos come out and try to carry you away..

I just have a Trek excalibur. Nothing crazy but good enough for some basic trails ect. In Colorado it's really not enough bike but then again the trails there are pretty intense.

love my bike (turquoise ten speed I picked up used for about $20 USD) but I prefer to walk when I go out. mainly just use it to cruise and gtfo the house for a break. a friend put in a little handle compartment for my music though so it's fun when I use it

Yea, it sucks for sure can't do anything about the humidity but I find the sweet spot is usually between 6:30 to 8pm. I'm kinda lucky here as the bike paths we have go through lots of state parks so there is tree canopy across most of it and part is on a very big lake the rest runs near the St Johns River but there is also lots of little natural fresh water springs and that water is very cold so it's a bit cooler due to the breeze & water.

You can't do anything about the humidity though just have to deal with it. Personally I don't sweat a lot so it doesn't bug me as much as the actual heat does..

Anyway I l;eave the house on bike do the west end of the path that dead ends into a state park at a St Johns river boat dock & camp ground. It's like 6 miles then I usually sit around a bit then head home. It's sort of a easy 12 mile ride all flat with a few parks along the way with natural springs, benches ect..

It's not the normal FL you think of as Sandy Beaches & Palm trees.. It's more rural, with big oak tree canopies similar to like you'd see up in Tallahassee or Gainesville area but this is north of Orlando on the way to Daytona.

Now the other end of the path, goes east and there is no shade there it goes through big fields and more pine tree type woods. I never do that way it's like a 25 mile ride or so to US1 but it's hot as fuck because of no shade and it's not near the river/lakes. I'm really very lucky at this location due to all the water near by and the heavy tree growth and lots of parks along the way..

If it wasn't for the heat and bugs it wouldn't be a bad area.. but man the heat here kills you.. The only draw back is you can't go swimming in any of the lakes or the river because too many fucking alligators and other shit that will bite you and the water is dark as fuck due to all the trees/plants in the water.

I ride. I used to ride every day, but year I've just been too busy..... I was out last night (and got a flat).

I ride Cannondale bikes. I got into cycying and was looking for a good bike, and came caross a Canndondale I liked. I researched it and it was a great deal, college kid was selling at UC Davis, so.... I bought, joined a Canndondale group on FB and... I've only had Cannondale's since then.

I topped out at 275 lbs and now I am 220.... Still over weight, but I'm working on it.

My favorite bike is a 2002 Cannondale CAAD5 Stars & Stripes. Shortly after 9/11, a group of firefighters from the fire station closest to the WTC did a charity ride from NYC to LA. Cannondale made these special "Stars & Stripes" bikes, only a dozen of them. There was such a demand for them that the following year they made a few thousand. I bought one four or five years ago and rode it "as is" but it was just an old bike always had problems so.... A few years ago I gutted the bike and replaced everything except for the frame and the steering wheel. It's awesome; It's like a brand new bike.

I ride Cannondale mountain bikes. Have had 6 different ones. I mostly do cross country trail riding.

Hey Rochard, that's a nice bike!

I would say you better figure out the purpose of your riding first, then choose a bike.
Better bikes are quite pricey so you want the right one first.
But you could choose a cheaper crossover for a starter till you figure it all out.

Good advice. I bike for fun mostly, so I bought a store-brand / no-name bike for a couple of hundred dollars. Some spend thousands on a bike because they are super light and meet all kinds of specs a pro biker wants, but for me I'm happy with "just a bike". Buy a bike that suits your lifestyle.
