Good business relationships really do turn into good friendships, ESPECIALLY in the adult industry community. Just ask anyone who has ever attended any adult biz trade show. And some of my clients have killer domains that they just do not know how to monetize. Maybe you could help them out.

Come on Dynasty... Return? Hand-shake? Peace?
Mark, I don't understand why you aren't at least offering something to theDynasty in return for registering your expired domain. Why not at least offer him $50 or $100 in exchange for his time, I can see why he wouldn't want to just give it to you for free. I certainly don't think you should pay $2500 or even $1500, but not offering anything and requesting it for free seems a bit far fetched.

A simple GFY search would show his long history of scamming money, everything from money transfer scams to his bread and butter scam, taking money for blogposts/links/work that he never provides. I'm sure his probation officer in Van Wert Ohio would love to know his fraudulent history...
^^ You may want to go this route, Mark. Probation won't play with him if he's out and potentially causing civil or criminal offenses. Profits of Doom knows Butler and the shit he's done well. You may want to contact him off the board for as much info as you can about CB

Doesn't matter, he could have common law trademark on it and under the circumstances (Butler waiting and preying till it expired to scoop it up and immediately contacting Mark) there could be a case for cybersquatting. Either way, if Mark were to file a suit, Butler has to drop $10-20K to **start** defending the suit and there are penalties of over 100K per domain (I believe) if found guilty.

Mark, I'm actually going to give you a name of these attorneys that went after me. They are young and fucking sue crazy and will probably work for you off contingency.

He owns Streamate. And I found that out two minutes ago when I clicked a link in this thread. One click, then Google, his website, his companies. If I could find it, anyone can. I couldn’t remember how to research a company or their sites; amnesia wins again.

Why he stopped using it for that site is only answerable by him. Perhaps your threat to tell all cam sponsors to drop him worked? Maybe he researched cybersquatting and infringements.

Search and ye shall find.

(I registered all tld variations of my main domain. I’d trademarked the magazine name and domain name with words such as “websites, magazines, blogs, TGPs, Usenet groups” and more. They can use the name only if not promoting my niche Some fuckwit grabbed the dot net and threw up pages for my competition. He was earning off my name by flooding page ends with my domain/magazine name before Google began looking for that. A customer was a lawyer and filed free of charge. Trademark infringement, domain something, defamation... I don’t remember all the charges. He forfeited the domain, paid around $20k, and was prohibited from promoting his sites by using my domain/magazine name to get higher search engine rankings. It was aggravating as he’d previously joined my paysite and stolen content for his own paysite. He was sued, I won, $$$$ and his domain taken down. We had a history and he again tried to screw me over. He switched niche and I notified his new sponsors to watch his content and ads. I learned a lesson then to register all variations of my domain. It’s easier to drop $10/year per site than go through this shit with time loss, money loss, fear of retribution plus damage control (“Pam I paid $24.95 to join your site and it is gone. Pay me back or I’ll tell everyone your (sic) a thief.”)

A trademark and/or copyright protects you, but $9.99/year per domain.tld is cheaper than spending time and money to get things taken down.

Be proactive. Take the domain registration costs as a tax deduction for “insurance” because, technically, it is. (Not tax advice. Ask a tax professional.”)

Hey Dynasty,

Don't lie to Bladewire or anywhere else here on GFY. You didn't buy *my* domain to use for business. You bought it to try to sell to one of my employees, or back to me for a huge profit for yourself. It was only after I told you that I wouldn't pay your ransom, did you threaten to "develop" it on your own. And I have your emails to prove it.

It's not distinctive like Streamate. Descriptive terms carry far less trademark protection than distinctive terms or arbitrary terms like "Apple". Unless Mark has a registered trademark, I don't recommend filing a UDRP or URSS, as it would likely fail and be a waste of money.
Hi infoguy,

You are 100% right in everything you are saying above, but still. "LiveCamNetwork" is my name and product that I and my programmers developed, and that alot of people have contributed to over the years. "TheDynasty" may be happy that he's hurting me somehow but he's forgetting who else he is hurting and dismissing.

Of course I would have absolutely offered this plus a bonus, and/or send some domain business his way, AND explore ways to do business with him in the future. Why? Because it's nice.

Sad that you don't work in the industry now, except attending trade shows with your dog, and you support leeches blatantly breaking the law cybersquating/blackmailing domains for a quick profit.

If I registered something like that and someone contacted me (or replied back) with legit proof that it was a mistake letting it drop, I would have given it back and spent 0 time developing it, even throwing a whitelabel on it.

I think there's more to business than quick sales. I would have definitely done whatever I could to get a business partnership with Mark.

I don't know about the cybersquatting rules / laws. But if the domain isn't actually a branded or protected in some way, I guess someone can just register a dropped domain.

It's really up to him how he wants to proceed. Give it back and take a partnership or do some biz (can easily benefit you more than the asking price of $2500). Or sell it or keep trying to sell it, and risk a lawyer coming at you.

I'm definitely not trying to say do this or do that, but hands down, working together surely has its benefits. Especially if it's a member of GFY. Good people are sometimes hard to come by. I love this place though I met so many good reps, hosts, fellow webmasters.

Anyway to either party I hope this gets figured out.

So all-in-all Dynasty wont make anything particular from the stunt and another enemy in the book that could have been the opposite.

I hope you get it back Mark and if you in the end don't, just try and accept the situation.
