A friend of a friend that worked for Atlanta Public Works for years said somebody YEARS ago had stored over 1000 55 gallons of trimethylaluminum under the over pass that burned up. It will burn like gasoline BUT when you spray it with water, it burns AND blows up.

The Federal DOT is giving GA 10M for the emergency rebuild of that section and 5-7 more that did not collapse but damaged.
Probably cost somewhere near 60M to finalize it. Perhaps more because of the rush.

It will take 4-6 months before things get close to normal and that is not saying much for that area. It's I85 though town, not a beltway.

If I were to believe some of the initial reports, they said the fire was started from some chemicals that were spayed on the ground under it. I take that and assume that it was probably some total herbicide that was flammable for a short while after application.
But I don't have anything real on that.

good to hear the federal government is giving the 10m. to the DoT especially after Trump had notified the DoT of future cuts.

I suppose this being a state of emergency, the government has no choice

When 250,000 cars use the damaged stretch of I-85 each day, that is pretty serious for all kinds of transport, deliveries, education, tourism...

This could effect the amount of people using Atlanta for the easter holiday. Would be interesting to see the reduction in spending through out the city from last year to this

I asked will it take years now Trump´s removing some money towards DoT. It was overpowered & the DoT were given 10mill towards the road fixture.
