How will Trump cope with the tragic problem on I85 Atlanta?

Trump's first test of how he will help rebuild the infrastructure. ...will it take 2 to 3 years to rebuild or possibly a decade, with cutbacks to the DoT.

Massive fire burning under I-85 in Atlanta | 11alive.com

NatalieK 03-30-2017 04:53 PM

this is a serious fire, it started a few hours ago, getting all the trapped cars off be slow. Fixing structural damage months, or years... With so many roads all in same space, could be a massive rebuild.

OMG, the live feedīs mental, listening to these guys, the firefighters think this could take months to put right as the fire was right at the bottom of the roads crossing over!

crockett 03-30-2017 05:06 PM

Ok there is a fire and part of the road collapsed, but why was there a fire in the first place? Was there a traffic accident? Did a gas line break? Did JoushaMo's head explode letting out all that trapped hot air?

Also.. 9/11 truthers.. have any comments? :1orglaugh

NatalieK 03-30-2017 05:14 PM

seems the fire was on a patch of the road where many lanes crossed, this could take weeks or months to fix, & hearing the live news, itīs the main road in & out of Atlanta.

It could create lots of further problems daily, mainly travel. but this also comes into livelihood, business, relationships & consistently finance.

Without renewing all of those roads, I think about 4 or 5, they wonīt be able to allow traffic on them :2 cents:

Fire officials extinguished a massive fire on I-85 on Thursday night after it burned for more than an hour and led to the collapse of a bridge on the interstate, fire officials said.

2 summers ago i bought a 69 camaro off ebay. I was driving up the turnpike when it became bumper to bumper & eventually a dead stop. A dump truck caught fire under a main highyway blocking the turnpike (both N & S 8 lanes) and the highways above. So don't tell me this doesn't happen. Most highways, infact all, are built by private construction companies such as Bishop, Creamer, Sanzari etc. the DOT just maintains the roads. Which they don't do.

I too was wondering if Trump would, at the bare minimum, comment about the fire and what happened.

However, it seems to me Trump isn't doing anything at all. We had a situation where I live in California where entire cities were evacuated and Trump didn't even comment. Our military is suddenly pushing further and further into Syria, and we've bombed and killed hundreds of civilians, and Trump hasn't even commented. Russia is opening up a military base in Iran, no comment. Now that Trump has dumped the Asian trade deal, China has stepped in and is signing trade agreements left and right leaving us out in the cold - still no comment.

The White House is completely paralyzed. They have one month to figure out this budget deal, they are already behind on planning and details, the healtcare failure makes it more complicated, and it seems there is a two week recess in the middle of this... Not to mention the entire Trump administration is under investigation.

I am so glad decided to make America great again.

It is not a Federal problem at this point -- the Federal government does not have a fire department. I85 is an interstate highway so (mostly) federal and (some) state funds will be used in rebuilding the destroyed bridge. Traffic will be very bad in Atlanta for some time.

An appropriate response would come from the USDOT ...

mikesouth 03-31-2017 03:19 PM

Itll take about 3 months to be back functional several sections must be rebuilt. It isnt a Trump problem is is a GDOT Georgia Dept of Transportation problem and a federal DOT problem, Trump has NOTHING to do with it....it doesnt even need a vote in congress its an emergency fund set up for exactly this sort of thing.. The state has asked for federal help, being that i is an interstate Highway and those funds have already been approved. While Im not a Trump fan I do think he is a better choice than Hillary and in the end I think he will be funstional as a president, I fully ecpect that he is positioning to convert Obamacare to Universal and I think and hope he will REALLY tighten down on lobbying...it should be abolished but likely wont be.

mikesouth 03-31-2017 03:28 PM

Just FYI the fire was fueled by a store area of large PVC pipes. What ignited those pipes has yet to be determined but foul play is NOT suspected at this time, per the FBI.

You can bet that new rules will prohibit the storage of such things under Interstate Highways and probably all bridges and overpasses.

IF you are travelling locally in Atlanta vi Interstate 85 GET AND USE the WAZE app. There are plenty of viable alternatives but I would avoid morning and evening rush hours regardless...unless totally necessary.

If you are passing through Atlanta north OR south bound USE I 285 no ifs ands or buts.. If you live in Atlanta it might be a good time to start using MARTA even though they are already raising prices..leave it to the crooked politicians in this city to take advantage of a tragedy...the good thing...not one single person was hurt in the collapse or the fire..not even a scratch.

Smack dat 03-31-2017 03:40 PM

I know nothing of this road or the bridge or whatever but it seems to me something like a road at spaghetti junction caching fire and all the other roads being affected.
Pretty sure looking at the maps you posted there are other ways to get to your destination. It may be a lot busier than normal but people will find a way.

You can't speculate how long it will take to repair. Normally with situations like this the government will throw it's weight behind it and get it done in several weeks.

mikesouth 03-31-2017 03:54 PM

Just announced on the news 3 people have been taken into custody on suspicion of starting that fire, no word on if it was accidental or intentional but its not a huge surprise being there are cameras everywhere in that area (hell everywhere anywhere these days). So while it appears that it was at least an act of negligence probably even a criminal act theres no mention of the case being federal except that it was federal property (the interstate not the PVC pipes) in other words it wasnt terror related...at least not at the moment

Just to be clear, I wasnīt digging at Trump as a hater, only stating the fact he had just ordered reduced funds for infrastructure & the DoT.
Within a day or so, this happens, was kind of ironic, a big shame for Atlanta, but very amusing to know Trumpīs dealing all the wrong cards. While you say Trump was the better evil to choose, I feel this is wrong as Hillary was a born governor or president, while Trump was handed a lot of money from his father & now has had more bankruptcies than you can count on your hands & doesnīt know how to run a country, he runs a golf club, that the wonderful people of the USof A are paying for, giving him more money than he has sense.
