Guess I'll post my ricer pics now. It was fun building. The interior isn't done yet, so no pics of that (nor the enginebay). :)

Ok, you guys might laugh, but them Ford Probes go like hell. I had (have but not driving) one? a GT. Just has an aftermarket exhaust system with headers. Not sure how much HP but here are the stock specs.

2.5 l. DOHC V6- 164 hp @5600 rpm / 156 lbs.-ft lbs. tq @4000 rpm (GT)

Ah well. Nothing fancy but those are nice cars.

JeffreyG 04-22-2003 01:06 AM

drunkdollars - Because there is a lot more demand than there is production, so there is a long waiting list to get most Ferraris brand new. The 360 Spider (convertible) waiting list is so long that most USA dealerships stopped taking names 1-2 years ago.

Validus - Thanks, will do.

I wish I had more, but those were the only 2 that I took. I was fortunate enough to see it in person & up close because it was being serviced during the time I took delivery of my car. There are only about 50 in the USA, so it's not a car you get to see everyday. That specific F50 is a '95 and has about 250 miles on it.

Why pay full pop. I drove a Red 2001 F1 yesterday with 2300 miles on it.. It was only $169,000.

Validus I almost bought a ford probe when i got out of school... a really cool black one that had special rims and extra turbo thing.. i was young so i didn't pay attention.. i ended up getting an acura integra instead... Ford Probe was the same as the older mazda 626 before they made that model a sedan... my family had a 626 turbo and it was awesome... very fast.. especially going up hill ...
I traded in that Acura Integra which by all means was a great little car that I loved.. for my new Z06... and am sooooo glad I did... :thumbsup

Huh? Why pay full pop? My brand new, fully loaded 2003 cost me $169,700 + taxes. I get a full 3 yr warranty and of course all of the other great pieces of mind that come with getting a brand new car.

Ferraris are not like typical cars when it comes to resale, nor is any other car with a long waiting list. For instance, those lucky enough to get a brand new 360 Spider right now will pay about $190k, depending on the options. Buying a used one will run you $225k - $250k, depending on the miles, year, etc...

That would be sweet to see. I have never seen one. I read in slashdot that John Carmack, programmer of Doom(s) and Quake(s), drives one:

You'll have to let me know how you like your Modena. It is my new favorite car in terms of cars I may actually buy one day. I would definitely purchase one over anything else in its price range.

That's one very lucky guy. I like how he says he drives it all the time. Those cars are made to be driven and you only live once, so if you've got the means to own one of those supercars, you should. Maybe not everyday, but I would certainly drive it on occasion. I've heard of a very old, very rich oil man in west Texas that has over 25k miles on his Mclaren F1. That's awesome IMO.

I absolutely love the 360. My previous car was a 6 speed 355 Spider. The 360 blows it away. Although it only has 25 more horses, it feels much faster & more powerful. Plus it sounds better too because I had a TUBI exhaust put on it before I took delivery. If you get a 360, I strongly recommend a TUBI. It makes it sound like an F-16.

Jeffrey,

I found this videos today. It will be interesting to you to see how M3 beats the 360 Modena on highway:)

BMW M3 vs. Ferrari 360 Modena.
http://66.230.150.52/modena.mpeg

And another one BMW M3 vs. Porsche 996 Turbo
http://66.230.150.52/turbo.mpeg

The Ferrari is awesome car in any aspect. It's typical exotic car. For example the SL 55 is more powerful than the Ferrari, it's convertable, it's very nice looking car but it is still Mercedes like the S class, E class and C class.

When it comes to exotic cars there are only 4 brands for me: Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche and Aston Martin.

Hi Nasko, cool videos, thanks.
I also own a 2002 M3 convertible. Here are some pics -
http://www.eentinc.com/m3/

Trust me, my 360 will smoke my M3. The M3 is a very fast car and fun to drive, no doubt about it, but it doesn't compare to the 360 as an overall driving experience. My previous Ferrari (the yellow 355 in the pics) was comparable in speed to the M3, only being a little faster, but the 360 is faster than both.

In March of 2002 I put a deposit on an SL55 AMG. They called me about 2 months ago and said "your car is here if you want it". I told them I changed my mind and asked that they refund my deposit. It would have cost $130-140k, which to me isn't worth it. It looks way too much like the SL500, with the only exterior differences being very minor, such as 4 exhaust pipes instead of 2, etc... If I'm gonna spend that kind of money on a car, I want exclusivity, which you get in any Ferrari. Nothing against the SL55, it's a great car, but just not for me and what I like.

I'm gonna get to test drive a 575 Maranello on Thursday. I've been wanting to drive that for a long time, so I can't wait.

The M3 in the videos seems like modificated verison because it's not possible to compare to the 996 Turbo and the Modena with stock version.

I had 996 C4 Convertable which I sold few months ago and bought the new SL 500. The SL is an awesome car. Althoght the SL 55 is a great car and it beats the new Lambo on the 0-300km/h test I compleatly understand you that It's not worth it. It's not only the engine that makes the car.

I'm sure you will have fun driving the 575. It's much better than the 360 and more powerful.

His net worth is only $10,000,000 I think. So he just loves Ferraris. I also think it is awesome. Whenever I buy my Ferrari or Lamborghini (or anything I buy) I have full intentions on using it. If not, then it means I cannot afford it and I won't buy it in the first place.

25K on a McLaren F1... sweet. There was one in the Gumball 3000, so that's 3k right there!

Re: 360 vs. 355... I think it's funny that some guys still like the 355 better than the 360, even in looks. The Modena blows me away. I know it's one of the lower end Ferraris, but it looks so much better than any of the 500s, IMO.

If he's only worth $10 mil then he almost certainly didn't get that F50 brand new. You should see the criteria to qualify for one of Ferrari's supercars brand new. I believe only 70 Enzos are coming to the USA. There are a lot more than 70 people who want them, so Ferrari (the corporation, not each dealership) carefully chooses who gets each one. First of all, you must have owned at least one 12 cylinder Ferrari in the past, although they usually prefer at least two. That means they could care less about me because both of mine are 8 cylinders. They won't admit this, but they prefer to have celebs in them. People that are gonna have their picture taken for the first pages of People Magazine & stuff like that. The owner of the F50 that was at my dealership is a name that you would recognize in a heartbeat and his net worth is over $900 million from what I hear (I won't say his name because I'm probably not supposed to know whose it was).

A lot of people like the 355 better than the 360. To me it's no comparison, but then again, I've been staring at a 355 everyday for 2+ years, so when the 360 finally came in, it blew me away. If it were the other way around, I'm sure it would have been the same for the 355.

Are you considering getting a Ferrari or Lambo anytime this year? If so, which are you most likely to get? I saw a Diablo 6.0 pull up to a bar I was at recently. That thing was awesome. Prices on them are falling fast these days because of the Murcielago coming out, as well as the Gallardo coming out later this year. Prices on the 355s are also falling very fast these days, so you can get one at a very good price.

I believe it. He's a high enough profile person to get one. If he's a true enthusiast, which I'm sure he is if he has an Enzo, he's probably owned an F40 and/or F50 and those are the people most likely to get their hands on an Enzo.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the specs on the Diablo you're looking at? Year, miles, etc...? I'm very familiar with prices of other cars for sale and can let you know if I've seen better.

IMO, it's not a good idea to lease cars like this. They hold their value well enough to buy it, take care of it, then resell it for a small loss. If you get a good enough deal, you can get away with owning a Ferrari for about $1k - $1200 per month, which is cheaper than some Benzs. What really screws you is sales tax, but there's obviously just no way around that.
