Seattle judge blocks Trump immigration order

A federal judge in Seattle on Friday granted a nationwide temporary restraining order blocking U.S. President Donald Trump's recent action barring nationals from seven countries from entering the United States.

The judge's order represents a major challenge to the Trump administration, which is expected to immediately appeal. The judge declined to stay the order, suggesting that travel restrictions could be lifted immediately.

Also on Friday in Virginia, a federal judge ordered the White House to provide a list of all people stopped from entering the United States by the travel ban.

The State Department said on Friday that fewer than 60,000 visas previously issued to citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen had been invalidated as a result of the order. That disclosure followed media reports that government lawyers were citing a figure of 100,000.

I agree with you on executive order part. The problem is many are pleased Trump was blocked from tackling the issue. Not sad that he was stopped.

Most homeless people are drug addicts, drunks or head cases of some sort. The problem starts before the drugs or drinking. The causes that lead people to those are more often poverty than any other cause. Mentally unstable people should be cared for by the State, you the taxpayer, and that's not so good in the US under previous governments who have done their best to keep healthcare in the hands of billionaires.

Obama was blocked at every turn by the people Americans elect.

He has to hold meetings for those who are paying double the membership fee and putting money in his pockets to be members of the winter white house. They expect access to him for that amount. It's the way it was done and why it was done.

The ONLY reason this was done was to make it look like the brand new Trump administration was doing something. This action isn't protecting us; Terrorists aren't coming from the countries on Trump's ban list. At the same time, we are allowing in people from countries with known terrorist connections such as Saudi Arabia.

The amount of damage this is doing is staggering. American businesses have employees stranded outside of the country, students attending University in the US cannot return, Americans have been separated from their spouses, and in some cases Americans are being turned away from returning home.

Of course this doesn't mention the people who spent years trying to come to the United States, no less the damage we've done to our reputation - Terrorists are using this "Muslim ban" as a recruiting tool.

The way this was done was horrible. The Trump administration didn't consult anyone about this. No one called the State Department, the US military, or anyone in Congress. This was done by a handful of people in the White House who seem to think they can do whatever they fucking please. This is not the case, being as a US judge just put a stop to it.

The correct way to have done this would have been to get together with the State Department and come up with a plan that didn't strand people at foreign airports. We have a long vetting process which is why we have so few terrorist attacks in the US. If they decided to move forward with this, they should have stopped issuing new visas not just lock them out.

This is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

It's just like the wall. We have this image that we have illegal aliens climbing over walls. The truth is that illegal immigration is slowing down, and Obama deported more illegals than any other president. Instead of making us look like assholes and spending money we do not have, the correct thing to do is continue what we have been doing for the past eight years.

I have...and what I found out is that with a few exceptions (and this was Northern Calif)..most of them do the street thing because it pays them better than getting a minimum wage job and they can hustle on the street for more.
There are towns in No. Calif that San Francisco literally pays the homeless to go to, and subsidizes them, and even gives them an extra $50 a week if they have a pet....so naturally most of them have dogs or goats(I'm being serious).
They have no aspiration of getting off the street..they have nice camps set up along rivers.
The few that did want work were not in that class, and I helped them the best I could

I live in a town of fifty thousand people and we have a charity here in town that has handed out three million meals in the past year. The town next to us has a complex of "tiny homes" for the homeless. Another town next to us has the Lazarous project, where they have three large homes for homeless people. Larger local cities are using something called MicroPADs. Other cities rent out entire apartments for the homeless.

You said refugees have "almost zero chance of ever successfully assimilating into our society". My grandmother was a refugee from Poland and didn't speak any English. My step-father came from Europe and spoke only French. And somewhere along the line, Robbie, you have family members that came to the US and chances are they didn't speak English either. You have to understand that if it was up to you... You wouldn't be an American citizen today.

Do I want someone from Syria coming into my country? Or Pakistan? I honestly don't care. Someone from Syria isn't going to come to the US and commit a terrorist act. I am more likely to be killed by a toaster in a bath tub than I am by a terrorist act on American soil.

I feel very strongly about what happened on 9/11, but this "ban" isn't going to prevent the next 9/11. The people who hijacked the planes were mostly from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which isn't covered by the ban. This is nothing more than a new president trying to make it look like he is doing something to protect us. He signed a fucking piece of paper and then went on vacation to Florida. That's it.
