Hmm.. "good choise", but it is not that easy to become eaten alive, if you mean being swallowed as a whole. Being bitten to peaces is just regular stuff, but if you would end up alive into the stomach? Probably you would suffocate soon, but if not, then it will get more interesting. Would the gastric acids melt you down slowly? Or would you die to lack of water/ hunger? Or to stay alive eating and drinking what the animal has eaten? Although the answer is suffocation.

pain doesn't magically disappear. People will pass out on and off, but it will wake you the fuck up in a hurry shortly after. the only reason they do this in movies is because listening to someone moan and scream for longer than a few seconds is unsettling to the viewer...

This is why when I hear somebody died of a heart attack my thought is 'That's wonderful. Congrats to all involved'. Because other than dying in your sleep a sudden fatal heart attack is the closest thing.

Cancer is bad, different cancers though have different courses of destruction - some are not nearly as painful as others and with some the pain only comes near the end when a good doctor should be able to keep the pain at bay with narcotics. It's still illegal to prescribe heroin for the terminally ill which is mind blowingly cruel and stupid.

Canadian Supreme Court just handed down a decision that is fairly broad, stating that assisted suicide is legal for people in a lot of pain, and they didn't make a distinction between physical and mental suffering. The government has a year to pass a law setting the conditions/rules for assisted suicide. If they do nothing then by default it becomes legal BUT no doctor or friend will want to risk helping somebody to die because the risk is you could still be charged and have a long legal battle to defend yourself. I'm hoping Harper does the right thing and passes a reasonable assisted suicide law similar to Switzerland's. I doubt he will unfortunately.

For people who have suffered with serious depression and treatments haven't helped - yes. Anti-depressants have been greatly exaggerated as cures, many people don't get much improvement from them and psychotherapy has never been proven to work - other than by a placebo effect. So if somebody with crippling depression who's tried a bunch of treatments and still is suffering - who are we to force them to keep on suffering?

Doctors diagnose so many people these days with 'depression', many of them who really aren't sick but just going through a bad period in life or just generally not happy, that people don't understand for that for some people depression is severe, not just feeling blue, people that wake up one day and everything is dark, they can't function at all. For those of us who've never experienced there's no way to truly understand.
