Umm no one said Russia did. They said the pro Russian insurgents did. The question is was it Russian military personal fighting for the insurgents. There is no real question where the BUK system came from, it came from Russia, so the only other thing to find out, is if it was a pro Russian seperatist or trained Russian personal.

American intelligence officials on Tuesday said evidence suggested the rebels may have shot down the jet "by mistake", and that no direct link to Russia had been found.

- rebels released the bodies and handed over the black boxes to Malaysian experts
- Ukrainians published fake youtube videos

- Russia has released satellite images and radar images showing the Ukraine military jet 2-3 km from MH17
- Americans didn't release anything

US Defense budget is $680 billion, maybe $100b for NSA, $5b more for NYPD, yet they have no idea who put up the white flags atop the Brooklyn Bridge. Obviously it is a tough ask for the US to show some satellite images about Ukr.

Yeah, and another news site says the direct opposite:

Sorry, but they are "Russian backed separatists". Blame for ALL of this rests directly at the feet of Russia.

So this is now the US saying that Russia is moving rocket launchers and tanks in and out of Ukraine.

Nobody ever said that Russia shot it down and at least to me I doesn't make much of a difference who did. It was definitely a group of total idiots and now both sides are too busy trying to put a spin on the whole story.

And in general it's Ukraine's responsibility to keep their airspace safe and secure or redirect the planes if they can't. Which I'm guessing they started doing now.

The BUK system came from russia, because it was part of the Ukraine army, and have been so for a long time.
