It was awe inspiring to people following domains yesterday when the news broke. Reason why is that no other sale of a NEW TLD, since ICANN enabled them, has even come close. The nearest sale of a NEW TLD that we are aware of was about $50k. So, we eclipsed that one. Risking $175k on a brand new extension during this new phase of the domain name business has never been done before.

I agree, but there seems to be a bigger picture in the future, perhaps smarter search engines that will give more relevance to the domain extension + keyword, something is going on, otherwise it would not make sense to allow an extra 2,000 domain extensions.

Great result for whoever owns webcam.com, they have probably already made subdomains of all the prime terms and they will now get a lot of the traffic intended for .webcam as people will instinctively add .com for a while for sure.
