Yes the system failed, it was fighting the hostility of the West, but also it failed because the people did not support the system. They thought that they could work the same way and get a car and colour TV. Radio Free Europe told them so. They were in for a rude surprise. As are the people of the Ukraine. |

Yes, in 2001 when we removed the Taliban from government we did in fact bomb major cities. For the most part, it was surgical strikes. But the truth is no matter how many "smart bombs" are dropped, mistakes are made and shit happens. This is very simple. Country "A" says "give us X or else" and country "B" says "no, fuck off". Country "B", it's government, and the people that put that government in place then suffer the consequences. Yes, innocent people will get killed. It's not like the US invaded Afghanistan for no reason. We had a valid reason to go in, period. |

This is who the Taliban are but of course you're only concerned with the United States holding them to a standard that is impossible in the real world to maintain. According to the United Nations, the Taliban and their allies were responsible for 75% of Afghan civilian casualties in 2010, 80% in 2011, and 80% in 2012. The Taliban and their allies committed massacres against Afghan civilivians, denied UN food supplies to 160,000 starving civilians and conducted a policy of scorched earth, burning vast areas of fertile land and destroying tens of thousands of homes during their rule from 1996 to 2001 |

Are you talking about the USA during the war? All countries control their economies when the life of the nation depends on it. As the history you believe is written by believers in the dictatorship of the rich I don't expect you to be able to see the positive aspects of State control. The ability of nations to develop their economy in the face of hostile powers. Have the Ukrainians been informed that their nations industries will be smashed, there will be mass unemployment and if they want work vast numbers will have to leave the country? The working class in the west will be faced with even more pressure on their wages.... |

The idea that Nationalism will solve the problems facing so many countries is the illusion.
It stokes up hatred of neighbours and minorities with the illusion of some golden past. At a time when the economy and financial control is world wide and based in few hands. It diverts attention from the growing social inequalities between classes and countries. The illusion of independence when maybe only 3 or 4 countries are in anyway really independent, the USA, China Russia, and North Korea... The real need is to build solidarity between working people of different countries to build societies worth living in. |
