Manchester protesters block fracking test site with wind turbine blade

"Protesters have blocked access to a shale gas drilling site with a 1.5 ton wind turbine blade tied up with Christmas bow. A local activist group says the act is ?symbolic? and the UK should be pursuing more environmentally-friendly energy sources.

The ?early Christmas present? ? as it has been dubbed by the activists ? was placed in front of the test facility in Salford, Greater Manchester at 5.30 GMT on Monday morning and has blocked access to the site. This latest act of protest is the latest in a string of demonstrations, some of which have led to clashes with the police.

?We've delivered this early Christmas gift to energy company IGas to remind them that we don't need damaging, risky and polluting energy sources like oil and gas to power the UK,? said Sandra Denton, a campaigner from No Dash for Gas. "

I'm glad they finally found something useful to do with those wind turbines.

These people are so out of touch with reality. They should give them exactly what they wish for and let them freeze in the dark.

The multinational corporations have been desperately trying to inform them, but they just won't listen

A few landowners have lost their drinking water around here already from fracking and just plain testing, as well. It's not safe to do... especially when there are more viable options.

We're lucky here where we could easily harness tidal power but our government in this province went against it in favor of low-royalty deals with SWN (oil/gas company) while in neighboring province, they are already generating huge potential and are about to hire a lot of workers to do more tidal power.

The whole thing is a crapshoot.

that due to sloppy operations more than the fracking process as a whole. many many sites operate clean fracking. not saying it can't be frought with eco-concerns but anything having to do with getting oil out of the ground is. the world isn't going to stop using oil until it runs out, we can all count on that and fracking will be a big part of the future. we should all understand the risks and rewards of it and not just poopoo it based on 1 side view.

In cases like this, the liberal activists do exactly what they blame the conservative politicians of doing. It's kind of humorous.

Stall, cry, not offer other solutions, not pursue other venues, obstruct, etc., etc., etc.

Fracking:
Pollutes the air, water and land. They (the facing companies) have drained entire lakes because so much fresh water is required. Water is mixed with chemicals as a part of the tracking process and is extremely polluted, and the pollution can't be removed.

As a form of energy, it's a terrible idea. And of course, it's owned again by big oil.

Electricy from Wind Turbines is much, much better for a million reasons.

if i felt like it i would BOMBARD you and this thread with facts showing how badly you are misinformed. as it is, i couldn't be bothered to bring you up to speed, about the most i feel like doing is typing bombard in caps.

if it were important to you, you'd have looked deeper.

lol at you stating the procedure known as fracking is owned by big oil.

whp and mp-the world is moving forward with fracking. with or without you. you'd be much better served getting up to speed and then focusing on what works and what can make it better than just myopically poopooing the process.

Fracking sucks! It's not worth it for little oil to make such a mess!

There is only one reason why it is any better at all - because it is renewable.

By every other measure it is a miserable failure that we will be paying for for generations to come.
