Ad Networks to Bite Pirates

Quote:
Google, Yahoo and six of the nation's largest ad networks have committed to a set of best practices aimed at stopping online piracy and counterfeiting by cutting off the flow of ad revenue to rogue sites.

Broad adoption of the guidelines comes one month after the White House released its strategic plan on intellectual property enforcement and renewed a push for private industry to take voluntary actions to reduce online infringement.

Besides Google and Yahoo, the ad network owners that agreed to adopt the best practices include 24/7 Media, Adtegrity, AOL, Condé Nast, Microsoft and Spo***hange.

The problem our industry faces is that a large percentage of the people who own the ad networks are also pirates or used to be pirates themselves.

Here is more from the article:

Quote:
The best practices adopted by the eight companies build on the framework of the Interactive Advertising Bureau's quality assurance guidelines. As part of the code, the companies have agreed to adopt policies prohibiting websites that are principally dedicated to selling counterfeit goods or engaging in copyright piracy from using an ad network's advertising programs. They also agree to independently monitor where ads are running and establish a complaint process when rights holders find websites that are infringing on copyrights or selling counterfeit goods.

If only adult would have done something like this five years ago. Of course we all know why they didn't. The crooks are in charge. So now your paysites make 1/10th of what they used to and affiliates are on the boards begging for money if they are still around at all.

Now think of all the pieces of human dogshit who were involved in this and left the industry within the last half decade. They are now sipping martinis on the money they sold for while you bust your ass for pennies.

This is no real news, these ad networks are not the ones used in pirate sites: "Google, Yahoo, 24/7 Media, Adtegrity, AOL, Condé Nast, Microsoft and Spo***hange".
It would be news, if a list of ad networks normally used in pirate sites may stop being there, but this is not going to happen unless they are fined or sued.

There are several file lockers using ad networks on the list of signatories to this agreement. We can now kill off some of the advertising dollars flowing to these sites.

Good news, but there will be always a part in the shadows where the money flows through legal business services.
google, yahoo, ... they will have only interest in a clean appearance and PR, but they love money.

Wouldn't overestimate this news, but let's see.
