Host wont allow me to have more IP

Is there any good reason for them to provide more IP? Currently this hosting company don't like my reason. My reason is "I need more IP because I do not want to stuck my domains in one IP, and I am going to install SSL as well which I purchase in some company."

You are the customer and should not have to beg for anything.

It starts getting harder if you have lots of IPs as you do have to have a good reason - Its in the rules.

Its not the case for one extra.

If youre a new customer some providers will limit the amount of IPv4 addresses they will give you.

I've had a host company ask me to fill out an "IP justification form" because there is in fact a limit on the available number of IPv4 addresses right now and for SEO purposes isn't really a valid reason, in their minds - but it really is in reality, so I maybe that is the problem. But ya just say that network thing that the other guy said. Should be fine :P

When the new IPv6 comes out it won't be that big of a deal but for now, you do have to at least attempt to come up with a valid reason why you need them :P

IP justification forms are (?were*) only relevant for obtaining IP Blocks - Not for single IPs to be added to a hosting account.

* ARIN required them for blocks under RPC 2050 - I don't think it exists now - It may have been replaced.

If they provide them free I can understand but if you have to pay like $1 a mnth each for them you should be able to get as many as you like. I have 200+ on one of my amerinoc servers.

I had the same issues... we were shooting tickets back and forth in a discussion why i should get the new ip's and why they thought i should not get it.
The "greatest" thing of all is that they send me a bill for spending 86 minutes on this issue/discussion... comes down to 200 euros... So... they want me to pay 200 euro
for a fucking discussion about ip-adresses...
So... be careful to shoot tickets in a discussion, because some companies think it's
normal to charge you for that.

Well... the complete bill was even higher... because they also spent some time on fighting some hacker and other problems... that was during the weekend so that's a higher hour-rate(and i allready burned my sla that month). They reduced the bill to 500 euros by skipping the weekend-rate etc... but that 86minutes is still on the bill. If i insist on getting that 86 minutes off, they could skipp the reducing and then it would come down to the same.

There are so many companies focusing on their bill-departement... At some companies the bill-departement is the only departement that works properly.

I have 1 hour sla... some months i don't even burn that because everything is fine...
sometimes i have to pay extra or upgrade sla... but i really think that not all things should be billed... like a discussion about why i want more ip's... i don't think it's normal to charge people for that!

But today another issue came up (and now they "want me to send flowers" for some hurt feelings) ... if they can't give me a reasonable explanation for the issue i might wanna check if it's possible to cancel the contract for incapability.

We don't make any problems when you order a 10 IP pack. But we don't have many, in fact, there are not many left because of the way IPv4 works and they are running out, so unless you want to stick 100 IPs on a $14.95 VPS we can give them to you, no problem.

They just don't have a lot and they are trying to detour you.

If you are willing to pay the $2 or so monthly fee and set up then you should be able to get as many as you like. Check out www.dwhs.net if you can't get one, we have plenty of super clean IP's available.

Actually, that is not true. There are /14's and /16's all over the open market for sale.

What you mean to say is... that you/host is running out of their inventory. To get more, they need to be able to justify them to ARIN/RIPE/whomever. Which means, they would have to do an audit to pass a run check on proper utilization per ARIN guidelines. In short, if they are all being used, then you should have no issue.

As long as you can fill out the form and justify them, you should be fine with any host. A lot of the "hype" about IP space is just that in regards to IPv4. ISP's can still get space from ARIN/RIPE/APNIC/whatever. They just are not going to get a /16 out of the gate like the good ole days. You just have to have proper accounting of what you currently have, and show proper use per guidelines.
