Unfortunatly the govenment there controls immigration tighter than a virgins asshole and any unwelcomed guests get to live in those nice detainment camps to keep them isolated from the population. (Hell, we don't even have decent fences on our borders.)

Maybe that's why it's so happy-go-lucky. That, plus a zillion miles of ocean to help it stay isolated; plus friendly people and a non-agreesive government... hmmm.

Shit. How do I get in?
Detainment camps are only for brown people that don't speak english don't you know... If you're white and from an affluent country you should have no problem unless you're unemployed.. it's easier to immigrate here than it is for me to go over there... especially if you're bringing American dollars and business over here.
That said we are the second most multicultural country in the world after Israel.
Actually our government is aggressive at the moment with the Iraq thing, but thats because we always follow the US. Otherwise we're pretty benign and yes, isolated.. although not entertainment wise or anything you just have to wait an extra few months for your hollywood releases (because of zoning so the companies make more money) and you don't get every band coming over even though a lot do, im going to see Ben Harper, Jeff Johnson, Ben Folds (although he's moved here now - he lives in SA) and Beck next month.

in australia we are much more likely to settle disputes with fists then guns. its our way. we fight, make up and drink more beer.

It's not cowardly when most people don't want it - it's democracy.

I'll protest against any erosion of freedoms I don't believe in (drink driving, owning uzi's etc), in this case though it wasn't an issue.. I believe in regulation. As long as farmers get to use guns..

I think you missed the point of that post.

Sure you might be one of the most multi-cultural nations in the world, but you control that to some degree.

We on the other hand have an influx of illegal immigrants in the 1,000's entering our country every day. Top that off with the poverty that exists already in our cities and you have a volatile mixture.

Foolish to think restricting guns will give you safety, evil will use illegal guns to sustain their ambishions(sp) knowing you have less defensive measures to secure your freedoms.

Great post!

but you'll never convince the treehuggers of this...

'take care of me, protect me, wipe my ass, oh and here's all my fucking tax money for you to do it'....

unforunately that is a not uncommon thought process ^^^

dude u think we dont have illegal immagrants? we have heaps of 'boatpeople' .. illegals from asia and the middle east.
we have like 5 massive detainment camps for illegals. we lock em up and send em back after like 4 years.

our illegal immigrant problem is HUGE too.

Personally I look at owning a firearm for the protection of self and/or family as a 'human rights' thing...

Who has the right to tell me how to provide housing, food, clothing and protection for my family?

are they gonna start handing out personal guards with those food stamps?

not likely...

Protection of Family, UNO! Agree! Our government will overreact to protect our freedoms but live in a country your expression has no meaning!

heheh a hero in your own mind. Like the gun control guy who thinks he's saving all those lives.. neither can see they're twisting evrything to their own agenda and self indulgently patting themselves on the back.

pinko leftist treehuggers and right wing conservative republicans/libertarians are equally important counter weights. It's important to have both. It's just sad to see so much partisan political bullshit.. and hilarious of course to see the self important drivel of both sides.

Tell me? Are you religious? Are your a hypocrite?

Guns are one freedom and expression is another, combine both and you have freedom of expression.

not religious and not a hypocrite.
I don't believe in blindly following someone's teachings or a book. and I believe that there is usually a plausible middle way if you distance yourself from partisians and take a clear view. Hence my stance on gun control... which is influenced highly from the society I am a part of... one where ownership of guns isn't a huge issue.
freedom of expression is vastly different to ownership.

Choice of owning a Gun? I'm a hunter and have little interest in handguns, but will defend a choice to choose.

Dialogue between you and I is important! Hope we never destroy debate by name calling.
