Great locker room speech.
He's all around the best QB playing the game and the Saints are the best team in the league.
The Packers are getting really worried about right now.

You're welcome, Saints. :/

Though Rivers isn't bad by any means but damn, Brees has become a monster QB. Wonder if he'd have been doing those #s if he was still here.

With the shoulder problems he might also have been a dud. At least that's what I would tell myself if I was with the Chargers management.

nope, he wouldn't have those numbers in San Diego - there's a lot of serendipity when it comes to QB's and teams/systems/coaches in the NFL, some QB's are just made for a particular coach/system/team, they fit in perfectly and are an extension of the coach. Not a chance in hell is Tom Brady what he is without Bellicheck, same for Joe Montana with Bill Walsh.

Peyton Manning, John Elway, Dan Marino - wouldn't matter what team, what coach - they were going to be Hall of Famers.

i think Brees would have been very good with San Diego but not great, not HoF.

Manning, Elway, Marino all relied on great TEAMS to succeed. In the NFL it's a team effort as illustrated so well by Brees last night.

I mean do you really think Marino would have been as great if he played for the 80's Saints? C'mon man!

the Miami Dolphins were great? please, they were far from great. One Super Bowl appearance in his entire career with that 'great' Dolphins team, how many Hall of Famers on Marino's Dolphin teams - ZERO, just him.

Indianapolis Colts, last year, with Peyton Manning, 10-6, without him this year 2-13 with one game remaining. The Colts without Manning even in their best years were not a great team. Take Peyton off those teams and they were far from great.

I don't remember the Broncos being great. Got their asses kicked in Super Bowls, no team coached by Dan Reeves would ever be called great.

Brees, Montana, Brady are/were systems quarterbacks. they pick apart defences with accurate short passes for the most part. the players around them are drafted and signed to play in that kind of system.

Marino, Manning and Elway - classic drop back quarterbacks with huge arms, give them any even halfway decent receivers and they are putting up their HoF passing numbers.

NFL is now a pass happy league, rules all favor the offense and the QB, can't even compare numbers from this era to earlier eras fairly.

Firstly, awards i.e. hall of fame, MVP are no criteria.

You need to check your history. While Marino was QB the Dolphins made 10 playoffs, you think Marino did that by himself? The were a great TEAM. Mark Clayton, Mark Duper...the Dolphins offense was excellent, which allowed Marino to do what he did.

As far as the Colts and Manning went, the team just got old. You should really go back a few more years.
Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Bob Sanders....yep sure Manning did it all by himself

are you shitting me? the NFL today is far more dangerous than it was, which is why new rules have been put into effect. The players are bigger, faster and more deadly, that is a fact.
If anything, surviving as a QB today is an achievement in itself, much less putting up the big points i.e. Brees.

how old are you? i never said football is any less dangerous today, i said the rules have changed over the years to favor the offense and the main reason it's been done isn't to protect players, it's been done to make the games more exciting and entertaining for fans and it's worked.

here it is in black and white for you, NFL passing yards leaders by decade - notice anything?

yes, thats because the game has EVOLVED. Players are better, faster etc.
they put up more points while going up against more dangerous opponents.
the rules have been made to prevent catastrophic injuries, not to please the fans.
as far as making the game more exciting...no. it's always been exciting.
any football fan knows a 6-3 game can easily be as exciting as a 40-30 game.

It always comes down to the level of drama, not points.
