not much a rep can do when they work for a dirtbag company. sometimes their hands are tied. we just lose money. they just loose their rep and conscience.

Yep. It's a combination of being able to sell and having a product that is worth selling.

This thread reminds me of an affiliate I was giving advice to that said something like

"if you know what your talking about you wouldn't be a rep" in a very rude and condescending way.

So I replied with short bio of my history including the type of volume I pushed as a webmaster.

I could tell his jaw hit the floor cause he did a 180 turn with his attitude and was super nice after that. He wasn't expecting to hear I actually earn considerably more then him, lol.

Best of all after taking my advice he made more $$$

Trouble with that is that with no particular person assigned to respond they may end up assuming (or hoping) that someone else will do it. You'd also need some sort of "I have no idea what this ticket is about" button so that people who are not knowledgeable in that specific area can count themselves out of contention.

I once had a response from the CEO of ifriends when emailing support... but I'd say that's the exception rather than the norm.

This is why you need reps that know how to make money as an affiliate.

Back in the day they were called traffic whores but thats not relegated just to affiliate managers.

I remember one webcam program owner that would fly over and spend the weekend if you sent her enough biz . . . Joe E was a happy man for several years.

Best response of the thread. Everyone can go home now... thread is done.

Come on people... being a rep is about sales.... sales is about networking. If you got the contacts, you can get the sales. This isn't rocket science people!

The problem is... too many affiliate reps are about networking and being a front man, that many have no technical experience at all, so they come across as useless, but they are far from it.

I wonder why? There are so many jobless webmasters (due to free porn and everything else) that any company could find affiliate rep with webmaster/affiliate experience

Well, it could be worse. Like an affiliate manager that never responds at all to your questions, but constantly keeps pushing it in your face how much he earns by doing nothing and that he bought a second hummer yesterday while I'm working my ass off to get out of the gutter!

Some people have no idea of how to apply for a job. You should see some of the resumes that I get. Oy vey.

I saw one the other day that I laughed - they had :-) on their resume three times at least. Then caps, I want to make YOU more money. On a resume, really?

I remember when I was in high school, they told us that when you apply for the job, to have the attitude that it would behoove them to hire you.

When I worked for Coca Cola, many years ago, we had a guy pass everything but the drug test, told him he could retest in a couple weeks, he tested positive again for meth, it only stays in your system for a couple days. The only reason I remember the guy is that his name was "Steve Austin" aka the 6 million dollar man!!

Networking is important, but networking is only 25% of the job.

Some people in this biz have lots of friends, they can sell themselves but couldn't close a window never mind a deal.

If you ain't closing, you ain't selling.

But still I assume if program posted job offering on this forum they would get at least few qualified people...
It is very strange that these days any program would have reps with no affiliate/webmaster skills.. I mean those with only customer support skills. Sometimes it looks like quite a few program owners has no hiring skills (or they don't care)
