If you use a wireless mouse, you are in for some real trouble!

Say hello to carpal tunnel!

I was going to get this mouse:

Until my doctor advised against it. He said most of his patients that have symptoms of carpal tunnel and work with a computer all day often are using a wireless mouse. Because the batteries are much heavier than a wired mouse it stretches the tendons harder and pulls the nerves against the wall of the carpal tunnel. He suggested finding the lightest wired mouse I can find and he did say the design of this mouse was good (except for the batteries).

So anyone know of a wired mouse like this one?

Trackballs are good, I love my logitech marble. Don't love all the shit logitech installs with it (100 mb for mouse drivers? Are you kidding me?) but whaddaya gonna do.

The damage does heal but it takes a long time, just like it's years to pile up, it's years for it to go away, and you have to keep using the computer all the time so if you're adding more wear and tear you'll never get better.

The carpal tunnel is in the wrist, a small tube where the nerves and tendons go through, if you put pressure on the hand while moving it they rub raw (Simplified explanation)

I also use the program from rsiguard.com it has a lot of features to help with rsi

I have just a regular old logitech wireless two button wheel mouse. Batteries in it aren't heavier than any other AA batteries out there, they're just rechargeable is all. So no worries here, and I've HAD very bad carpal tunnel in the past.

About 8 or 9 years ago I had it so bad I had to switch the mousepad over to the left. Had to mouse with the left hand for nearly a year while my right wrist healed. Moved it back after that and haven't had any serious issues with it since.

Not into those freaky curvey-looking mice, btw. Ever hear of the KISS rule? "Keep It Simple Stupid"

I follow that rule religiously.

You should seriously consider a trackball. You need to get used to them for a few days but after that you never want something else. Another good thing is that you can really rest your whole arm on the desk. You don't need to lift it to move your mouse.

Obviously, regular masturbation keeps your hand and arm healthy. ;-)

Having to put fresh AA batteries in the devices half-a-dozen times a year sucks though

ya a client got me hooked on a Logitech marble a few years ago and i love it. i have them all over the house and one in my laptop bag. want to fly across two monitors in a second? just flick your fingers. beats the shit out of lifting and sliding your hand across the desk 20 times.

the only thing better would be a bluetooth marble for my media pc

I've tried wireless a couple of times over the years but always end up going back to wired because they just don't feel right with the weight.

I've had carpal tunnel for a long time and it has never really bothered me all that much. I wouldn't worry about it all that much. Just eat anti-inflammatory foods or something.

I have a friend who had it, and he said his doctor opened up his wrist a bit, snipped something, sewed him back up and a few weeks of healing later he said it never bothered him again.

I've also seen little metal tubes they put in to protect the walls from getting inflamed from rubbing.

Jesus Christ lift some weights already! And do alot of wrist curls forward and backward. Do some trap & shoulder exercises too. Stop whining that sitting at a desk in a chair all day should be easier. Get up & move.

How does it do in that situation?

All of the wireless mice I've seen are noticeably smaller than the wired version, could that have something to do with it?

I hated my wireless mouse with passion even though I paid quite a few bucks for a good one. It is "high precision," which meant that I had to spend like 20 seconds every time I wanted to move the cursor where I wanted it; played with the settings forever to no avail and then tossed it...

Right now I am wired and happy...

Wacom tablet for the win. 1 click double click using the pen's rocker switch which saves 50% of your mouse clicks too! Think about it your hand is so used to holding a pen, there is no burden on the carpal tunnel nerves.

turn up the sensitivity so you only have to move an inch left or right to cross your screens? It's all about the finger movements, not the wrist.

That said, I used a trackball Kensington for a few years and loved it to bits.
