Job got tough, Dems running away!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110218/..._budget_unions

MADISON, Wis. ? The Wisconsin State Patrol was dispatched Friday to find a Democratic state senator who fled the Capitol to delay the near-certain passage of a bill to end a half-century of collective bargaining rights for public workers, a measure that's attracted thousands of protesters for four days.

I guess when the going gets tough, the democrats hide?

Go Ahead, but I find it funny they don't have the balls to do their job!

"We left the state so we were out of the reach of the Wisconsin state patrol, which has the authority to round us up and bring us back to the legislature," state Sen. Mark Miller told ABC's "Good Morning America" from an undisclosed location Friday.

Nothing says pussy more!

the problem is when you get your news from yahoo;)

Wisconsin Gov. Walker Ginned Up Budget Shortfall To Undercut Worker Rights
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2...ker-rights.php

Quote:
Unlike true austerity measures -- service rollbacks, furloughs, and other temporary measures that cause pain but save money -- rolling back worker's bargaining rights by itself saves almost nothing on its own. But Walker's doing it anyhow, to knock down a barrier and allow him to cut state employee benefits immediately.

Furthermore, this broadside comes less than a month after the state's fiscal bureau -- the Wisconsin equivalent of the Congressional Budget Office -- concluded that Wisconsin isn't even in need of austerity measures, and could conclude the fiscal year with a surplus. In fact, they say that the current budget shortfall is a direct result of tax cut policies Walker enacted in his first days in office.

So in reality once again we are talking about a corrupt governor using tactics to destroy workers' rights.

And btw the dems move would be strategic...they are buying time to let the public tidal wave continue and probably build a good case to oust that douchebag Walker.

Not the case. I suggest you get more details. The dems fled to create a philibuster style tactic to prevent the republicans from rescinding major worker rights legislation.

The fact that the Gov sent officers after them and is considering calling in the National Guard is more proof that many republicans are just fascists in democratic clothing.

Key word being FLED!

State workers got it made with collective bargaining, which I'm sure some of you don't even know how powerful that is, Jerry Brown gave that to California State workers and fucked the state.
Just getting rid of that will help the state, then make them pay for part of their retirement, which is pretty damn good and part of their health insurance, just like private sector jobs!
And before any idiots start calling me Anti Union, I have two union cards, one being teamster. I believe in a lot of what the union does, but they are getting too much for state workers, it's unrealistic in this economy!

NO, they are not going to take a cut in pay.
But if the Teachers want to go on strike, all state employee's can go on strike, so to settle a pay problem with a teacher, the garbage doesn't get picked up and DMV closes down

Funny how someone so against "Big Gubment" becomes a boot licker when it does something they like. Fact is the main reason Wisconsin is in this huge predicament is because the Governor in all his infinite wisdom gave so many tax cuts to the rich that the only way to balance the budget is to take it from the poor and middle class.

http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madr...omment-1779791

Make no mistake if you are rooting for that idiot governor you are on the wrong side of history.

Oh it does, state workers that should be at work? Politicians that SHOULD be at work. This is why we pay taxes, right? To fund the government?
But like any big gathering like this, calling in the guard would be prudent. Could get ugly, or at least uglier!!

I worked on high rises in LA, if we were to strike, we weren't allowed to even strike the building we worked on.
Yet the Iron workers did a wild cat strike against us, stopping work, something that wasn't even sanctioned by their local, it got pretty nasty, they were pulling people off the bench just to have numbers on our jobs!

The absent legislators are acting to prevent an injustice the only way it can be prevented.

I'd say that they are clearly doing their jobs.

From 2001 to 2010, Wisconsin taxpayers paid more than $8 billion for state employee health care coverage, while state employees contributed only $398 million, less than 5% of the total costs. From 2000 to 2009, taxpayers paid $12.6 billion for public employee pensions, while the employees only contributed $55.4 million, less than 0.5% of the total cost.

In staging sick-outs and protests over a request that they make a modest 5.8% contribution to their pensions and pay 12.6% of their health insurance premiums (half the national average), state employees look greedy and selfish.

In California, when you retire from the state, you do so with 95% of your pay and you don't have to contribute to it, it's fully funded by California. Name any private sector jobs that do that?

And do me a favor, I have BryanG on ignore, because he's too much of a pussy to say this to my face, don't quote him

Read the story. There aren't enough of them to prevent this bad law from being passed.

This is the only way they can stop it.

Agree with them or disagree with them, there's no denying that they're serving the interests of their particular constituency.

And that, after all, is what the people who voted for them hired them to do.

Think of it as a parliamentary maneuver. It's certainly no less ethical than blocking votes, you know you'll lose, by threatening a filibuster. You know, like Boehner's boys did so often these past two years.

It buys time and, more importantly, it turns a regional news story into a national headline.

Don't be so sure it won't work. Wisconsin ain't Texas.

Breaking the public employees unions is a must if we are ever going to fix our budget problems on the state and federal level. This is just the first battle in a long war against the welfare mentality of the public employees unions.

More retardation by you. Try LEARNING about things. theya re NOT running away. They just don't want a BS law to be passed. If you notice the PEOPLE ar protesting against the law. The PEOPLE. Have any picture/video of people SUPPORTING taking away pay and benefits from teachers, cops and firefighters? Don;t cops and firefighters put their asses on the line daily like soldiers? You know like you kid? Why don't reduce pay and benefits from them too while we're at it? Oh wait you'd be against it because you are a HYPOCRITE. In California, when you retire from the state, you do so with 95% of your pay and you don't have to contribute to it, it's fully funded by California. Name any private sector jobs that do that?

I find it ironic that your complaining about benefits for state employees while your daughter goes to college on the GI Bill.

Big difference between benefits that last 3 years for school and benefits that last the rest of their lives.

One union has already seeked a compromise on everything but the collective bargaining.

So you see it's not really about them losing their benefits, it's about losing their power.

The union I was in during the 80's had to take some cuts, no one cried about it.

Now with Tea Party people on the way there, it's going to get interesting.

Middle Class Erosion - Etc.

Collective bargaining gives the teachers or employees one voice to negotiate with the state. Wisconsin should negotiate with the union to scale back benefits if they want to save money. Removing collective bargaining only removes the workers right to protect their rights and is another bridge to eroding the middle class.

The workers in Wisconsin have plenty of protection. There is OSHA,LIRC,EEOC,NLRB and I am sure a few more that are all free for every worker in the state who thinks their rights have been trampled.

Today, state unions are only about leverage to get more than their counterparts in private industry receive.

Your daughter doesn't have benefits for three years. She has three years of the GI Bill. Then she has a lifetime of benefits. So do you. And so do I. I just got me a VA loan for a condo I rent out to a friend - who has been living off of his military benefits full time for the past twenty years. I love my military benefits.

You cannot compare the benefits your daughter gets compared to the state employees of Wisconsin - Because you'll loose. It's simple math... Military benefits are for life.

Or are you against Vets having benefits?

This is not them taking away benefits, they still will have them, they will just have to pay a little for them, when before they didn't pay at all, ever have a job where you didn't have to help out with paying for your benefits?
And the unions have already tried to compromise with the governor on the benefits if they can keep the collective bargaining power, and it's just that, power!

She started on the Montgomery bill and had to pay into it, something the unions don't want to do!

The post 9/11 bill came later
