Ray (10:16 AM) :
hey *******, I dont like this "capped" deal at all. Our first Hun listing with this server went up today, the damn server keeps lagging BIG TIME! We have to work something out or I have no choice but to move..losing money here.

********* (10:49 AM) :
go to burstable plan

Ray (10:50 AM) :
there should be no price difference

Ray (10:51 AM) :
look, im paying a mimimun of 10mbps on average for $***/month and 70/mbps over. I dont see why it should be capped

Ray (10:52 AM) :
or 75

******* (10:52 AM) :
th eonly pricie difference would be your burstable rate if you exceed the amount you commit to

Ray (10:52 AM) :
I have 3 other servers and non are capped

******* (10:53 AM) :
ok ill uncap it

******* (10:54 AM) :
?

Ray (10:54 AM) :
"th eonly pricie difference would be your burstable rate if you exceed the amount you commit to"

This is what I want...wanted in the first place. $***/month with 10mbps uncapped on average. and $75/mbps overage..but I dont want to be limited

******* (10:55 AM) :
np whats the last name on the account?

Ray (10:55 AM) :
If one month I want to use 90mbps, i would like to do so

Ray (10:55 AM) :
*******

Ray (10:55 AM) :
billing it to *****, server is ***

Ray (10:57 AM) :
so what are we doing? $***/month 10mbps on average, $75.mbps per average overchange and uncapped? So i could use how much I want?

******* (10:58 AM) :
yup

Ray (10:58 AM) :
great! thanks for woking with me *****

***** (10:59 AM) :
np ray ill have that expedited so you dont lose any more traffic

Couple days after this they changed my billing 95th percetile...this makes a huge diff on my total bill. Where the fuck did I agree to that? Huh..where?

You didn't agree to it - specifically - anywhere in your conversation, but agreeing to switch to a new plan, by definition you have also agreed to the terms of that plan. I assume their burstable plan bills on the 95th percentile?

I sympathize with you and it would have been good public relations for them to point out to you significant differences between one plan and another. But the burden of checking TOS is ultimately on the buyer.

****** (11:34 AM) :
paste where i said burstable wouldnt be at 95% i thought that was just a known fact

******(11:35 AM) :
that means average at 95% average means 95 percentile bro

****** (11:35 AM) :
anything burstable is going to be at 95%

Ray (11:36 AM) :
lol, billed on average means billed on average, billed to the 95th means billed to the 95th

Ray (11:37 AM) :
please, dont play games. You knew I meant Average billing and not 95th percentile. I even called billing, she told me you ask her to cahnge it

****** (11:38 AM) :
ray i dont play games...again i though when you wanted it uncapped you understood what that meant

Basically I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.....I gues its a play on words thing....Even though I specifically mention Average many times. Anyway...time to move some sites.

Most "adult hosts" are third party resellers who have no clue about the technical end of hosting, and/or have nothing to do with it other than sales... Getting stuff fixed is like playing telephone then, and that sucks shit when you want your server working.

Name names. Who do we avoid in the future? This was a terribly communicated deal on behalf of the hosting company.

if you want average.. you need to go for GB plans ... like 3000GB/Month.... Like that, you can have huge bandwidth peaks without costing a fortune....

I only deal with hosts that have there own data center and can physically walk over to your server when you call.

Most hosts are just resellers. Why should I pay extra when I can go direct..

I myself have been looking for a host for another dedicated server so all my eggs are not in one basket. Man I have seen so much bullshit it is unreal. My persoanl favorites are ones that give you say 2000GB a month. (1000in and 1000out) Now I am no hosting expert but I would say you are really getting 1000 gig amonth and they are just trying to make it look like more. Srugs....

That is completly false, many of our customers have been billed based on average and not 95th percentile for 7 years now.

Ray, you are right. There are just too many hosts out there that use all sorts of tactics to trick their customers. What Shane mentioned is one of them, putting 30 customers, each paying for 10 Mbps on one 100 Mbps connection is another. It is truly sad what the industry has come to.

I have two suggestions:
1) Ask many many questions
2) Go with a company that has been in the business for AT LEAST 4 years.

Feel free to ICQ me if you want some free advice.

I disagree the representative told him what the only difference would be and it did not iclude 95th percentile. That rep is at fault if the excerpt of the conversation are accurate.

I agree Shane and that's why we don't play that game! It's like I work all week, get my paycheck and now you're gonna tell me how/where I can spend it . . . I don't think so!

Bullshit.

95th percentile is not a ripoff and that statement just makes you look like an idiot.

The differant billing methods, be it 95%, average, or per gb burstable all suit differant needs and differant people.

You have to evaluate your use and needs and then choose a billing method which works for you the best.

Dont be stupid. Educate yourself.

That is bullshit too.

I can almost guarantee all of your favorite hosts on here, DONT have their own datacenters but LEASE space in an already built datacenter and utilize their own staff.
This is complete differant than owning your own datacenter - which in todays world and economy is almost not smart at all when you can lease out space at incredibly low prices.
