One of those big chrome bastards that sticks out the hood.

If so what compression is your motor at and how drivable is the setup?

from what I've seen it's always a good idea to go way low with the compression or you'll fuck up the motor. I work with Honda/Acura motors and when I've added boost of any kind I drop the compression to like 9:1 or so.

For N/A high compression is king. For boost the lower the better.
Drivability isn't really an issue till you get way up in the boost. I had a 27psi 1.8L B18 for about 3 years before any MAJOR problems. I had to change the oil about every 1200-1500 miles and always seemed to get oil leaks but it was way cool having it.

Wow 27psi sounds real high, Was that in a honda? I was talking more about muscle car era american v8s.

What kinda car did you run the 27psi in btw?

well not ever supersharger comes out the bonnet i sold GM in Australia and every v6 calais has a supercharger.

it was a 94 civic hatchback. it did about 10.8 in the quarter.

The next time I ran it I had installed a 100 shot of nos and fucking blew up about half way down the track.

the car is certified for 7.99 and we go all over the country in Fun Ford Events, fully caged, fire supression and so on. Its a backhalf car but on 10.5 inch dot tire.

Nothing beats the look of a chrome roots blower!

They are horrible inefficient though. (lots of heat)

Centrifugal all the way. It all stays under the hood, and you can intercool it. Basically a belt-driven intercooled turbo. http://www.procharger.com/

yes true in some sense of the word, but when its all said and done roots make the most power when you visit the far end of the spectrum.

you obtain boost from both types of blowers, you are talking alond the lines of cooling the incoming aircharge which is more dense with oxygen and then combined with more compensating fuel, you effectively have a more efficient air/fuel mixture resulting in more power. True until you really step up in horsepower, due to many different variables you can use the heat a roots blower makes along with variable timing and fuel delivery to far exceed centrifigual blowers, but you are talking in excesses of 2000 hp

Because heat = bad for forced induction, I've read that intercooled setups are the way to go. Because of the configuration of Roots blowers, they can't use an intercooler.

This makes a huge difference in power. With an intercooled blower, you can run much more boost without the threat of detonation.

More boost = more power from everything I've read.

yes this is all good info for the most part till you move way up in the horsepower range. Street driven or part time weekend warrior racers prefer the centrif's. Start moving way up the hp range and watch your centrifgual eat itself alive and spin bearings in the housing. BUT im talkin in excess of 2k hp

please use the word hemi loosely They are what is referred to as magnetos. 1 for each bank of cylinders. I dont want the dodge boys gettin all huffy even though Ford had used the hemi style cylinder head layout before dodge. Although they brought it to production first

ya for a guy on a budget and not lookin to make 2k+ hp centrif's are the way to go. All IHRA and NHRA fuel cars run roots. All monster trucks like bigfoot and gravedigger run roots.

I'd take 500 reliable HP, and a ton of traction over more HP anyday.

ya it will last but not long on pump gas. A variation in oil pressure of 10lbs or more and its toast on the street in traffic and heat
