Free Hosted Galleries - trial and error you wouldn't expect - a shame

While some sponsors know how to make the FHGs, know how to push their product through them, know how to design them and do just what one expects from a group of people runing a big business, some simply, to my big amazement, don't.

The biggest cost involved in FHGs is hosting. If that is so why is it then that some of the big ones make so crappy galleries? Lack of marketing experience? Lack of money sure can't be the case. People make very good galleries for nothing today. Look at the Gallery People for example. Yet no. Some need to do them inside the house with 0 experience in TGP marketing.

Some FHGs are so bad that if I didn't know, I would say a newbie made them and laugh at them. Then it shocks you a well known respected sponsor made them. It might be true these sponsors are good at one thing but when it comes to making good galleries I really wonder what makes it so hard to hire a professional gallerymaker to do the job.

And the case goes on... Half of those who offer FHGs are deleting them without notice. That's a good one. LOL. A million dollar approach towards TGPs. Yeah baby. You would expect a newbie get rich quick overnight wannabe doing that, but when one comes from a well known sponsor you really have to ask yourself who's playing trial and error here. I, because I was 100% sure their stuff is quality or them learning the TGP marketing basics?

I guess it's just the same with regular gallerymakers and sponsors. We have both, ones worth gold and ones being idiot newbies. Only what's confusing here is that some of these sponsors are in the biz for quite some time and are well respected.

How come they can afford making idiot newbie mistakes?

On the end it's not who they are, it's how they convert, so being "well respected" or "being in the biz since before Christ" means shit if they can't convert their galleries. Shame.

I can see your point on sponsors that delete FHG's. But if you're saying that people who use simple (as in "not very polished looking") galleries are "missing it" then I'd say you're off base. Very simple looking galleries close best for me. Let me show you my current "best converting" gallery:

http://ncggalleries.com/webmaster/ga...N67/index.html

That gallery looks like a newbie created it, but it sends traffic like crazy and converts really well.

Remember, surfers don't get turned on by pretty designs. They want to see girls and find out where they can go to see more.

If it sells, it ain't a horrible gallery. It may not be art, but it does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do.

Yet it sends me sign ups every day.

That's what I'm talking about... so many people think a gallery has to look like it costs a million $$ to design in order to convert. When was the last time you jerked off to a design? That gallery converts because it gets the surfer interested in the girl and makes them want to see more.

You keep creating your fancy galleries. I'll take the simple, converting ones.

agreed, horrible gallery.

surfers don't get turned on by design that's as certain as the fact that sky is blue. I am talking about poor marketing. some sponsors don't even warm up their surfers.

blindlinking, poor text ads, poor ad visibility and so on... it's why I can make money with some and can't with others when they control what's on the gallery.

about your gallery, it can get lots of curiosity clicks but if your traffic is already freaking filtered then conversions can't be all that bad and what's good conversions for you and on what type of traffic is another subject. I know I could make a lot more with that gallery if I wrote the ads and I as hell wouldn't use it on my traffic.

I am amazed sometimes the stupidest fucking designs convert like crazy. I think that I should make galleries that look like shit and see how they do.

People want really simple nowadays.

Being a sponsor helps a lot here..... If your smart enough to look at your stats and figure out who is doing best.

We discovered that one of our webmasters was making a killing with his TGP galleries.... So we worked out a deal where he makes all of our free hosted galleries.

I was always the simple put it out straight 1 ad only guy too... simple and focused.

if everyone is bothered by Gallery People statement then you didn't understand.

I wasn't talking about great designs although that is what they have. I was talking about price they charge for their expertise. I was talking about how cheap it is to get someone who knows what converts to do them for you instead of making them on your own.

wtg Rochard! A LOT of your FHGs is already on my list

Yet it converts like crazy. You are making my point for me. Galleries don't have to be flamboyant, and the pics don't have to "kick ass". They just need to get the visitor to click, and once they've clicked, it's up to the site to do the sell. That gallery results in a lot of clicks.

So does this one:

http://www.ncggalleries.com/images/sierra/seneca/

Once they're at my site the sales are very strong.

If you go to the major TGP's you'll see my galleries everywhere. They're not listed because of pretty designs. They're listed because they convert.

Gosh - that must be the ugliest design I have seen in years! Haven't you heard of vspace/hspace for images (thumbnails)?

It might be people only click to get it out of their face... LOL
You certainly would stand a chance to get decent tgp listings with that!

It's on Persian Kitty right now and has also been on Richard's Realm, TheHun, AL4A and several others.

You were saying...?

Best I have seen so far is that the WEBMASTER PAGE with the link list to their freehosted galleries is 404-ed!

Happened last week with WOW18 (and still is!)
But then: the 404 goes to stupidcash - telling, isn't it?
Thanks guys!

Simple sells..Plus those galleries load fast @DonovanPhillips

Most newbie TGP surfers are still on AOL/local dial-up or on their pc's at work.

Have to agree ... a simple design works. There are several tricks you can use with a simple design to get good ratios. Sometimes we forget that most people are on 56k modems.

Seen some really pretty graphics intensive galleries in my time, and made a few aswell, but they never do well.

Personally I hope it gets worse with the hosted galleries.....I'd like to see sponsors get out of the gallery business altogether.

I know that won't happen but alot of them aren't seeing a very good ROI, or even taking a loss on them and getting out of that game.

What's your favorite sexual position?* I really don't know.* I'm still a virgin.* Seriously!

if any of your surfers buy that line, they are so dumb you can sell them a few bridges or something!!

but great looking gallery dude... simple and to the point!

you are all missing the point. I wasn't talking about good design. god damn it. I was talking about good marketing and using some fucking common sense. THAT'S why some sponsors have their ROI with galleries in the toilet and I do not wonder why.

what I wonder is why is that happening to sponsors who should be on top of the game. did they forget what world looks like outside paysites?
