I can see your point on sponsors that delete FHG's. But if you're saying that people who use simple (as in "not very polished looking") galleries are "missing it" then I'd say you're off base. Very simple looking galleries close best for me. Let me show you my current "best converting" gallery:

That gallery looks like a newbie created it, but it sends traffic like crazy and converts really well.

Remember, surfers don't get turned on by pretty designs. They want to see girls and find out where they can go to see more.
