Changing processors (from CCBill to..)
We are working with CCBill for like 7 years.
We have 5 sites and a only over a hundred of rebilling loyal customers. Not a big company and trying to run things around in a way a bit also amateur spirit like many of us I believe.. (surely being big would not be a problem, too but here is our situation in short) CCBill is our only processor. Lately we see too many frequent denials and the payments are late like last two payments are not arrived at all (one is 11 days late other is 4 days late). I got a few more complaints but that is not much important. We sticked with only 1 processor but lately we consider to change or have at least one more processor like maybe Epoch as they also support PayPal and I hear good things about them. Though, it would be a messy, hard and complex also expensive all the way for us to get a second processor as only VISA + Mastercard fees even a big minus for us and all technical things, changes etc would also cost time, efforts and money for sure. Would you have any recommendation in this case? Like is there anything we miss or.. anything we may / can / should do as a solution, or any suggestion? Thank you. |

I like working with RocketGate and Epoch, in addition to CCBill. I also recommend to my clients to have multiple cascades to reduce denials.

We certainly consider Epoch as they support PayPal, too.. Is there any recommendation for a script or anything to use for denials to show alternatives? |

When I am tasked to integrate a payment processor into someone's software, I will usually tie to the user a session or database value representing which cascade that user is on. If a non-successful error message is reported from the current processor, based on the message, I will increment the cascade and show a different processor to the user. This is generally a custom software solution, though. When we run out of processors, then the user is likely fraudulent and we require they explain themselves to customer support.

6 payments?!! There must be definitely something wrong there. We miss 2 big ones from April. they sent 1 smallest payment in between but those two are each double of that one small one and they tell that they sent the payments but it's not correct as they cannot and do not give any other information and information they give does not match. Nothing is coming. |

Unfortunately I have the same problem. The money has not arrived even after several urgent calls. It seems like they want to rob us.

The CCBill dashboard is clumsy, but sometimes I call in and they interpret it for me.
They've never missed a payment. They pay on Mondays, but 10 times a year there is a Monday holiday in the US, and people panic when they don't get paid on Tuesday, because they don't have US holidays on their calendars. They do charge $5 to pay us by US ACH which they add on top of our minimum threshold. I have a minimum threshold of $50 which means they actually pay me when I get $55. That was clumsy at first, like 15 years ago, but now I know. Only one or two other platforms charge $5 to pay me, and that is a little disappointing on top of the monstrous risk percentage and 5% rolling reserve. In 16 or so years I may have had one chargeback. The number one reason why I am still with CCBill since 2009 is: 1- Longevity, and 2- They are the only payment processor I know that does tangibles (mail order DVDs). Every other payment processor I've talked to at TES says they don't do tangibles. As a customer, a few years ago I had a problem with Epoch. I had mixed up two digits of the three-digit CVV, and not only were they extremely rude on the phone, but they actually lied to me on the phone the second time it happened. First, they told me. I would have to call my bank to find out why, which was a lie the second time because the bank did not even see a processing attempt. And then when I tried to use a different card and was very careful with all of the digits, they denied that one as well. I then used one of the other payment methods, a different provider such a SegPay, and both cards have worked just fine with them over time for years. So I don't do Epoch anymore, on any platform. StripChat uses both, but the purchasing power with the PayPal option is a lot fewer tokens compared to the credit card option method. SegPay has a very fine presence at TES. I did have a chat with her for a few minutes one day and told her that 99% of my revenue comes from platforms (like StripChat) that do their own payment processing. So she and I had a good laugh that even though I'm not a customer of.SegPay, I am a customer of SegPay because I am a content creator on all those platforms that use SegPay.

Not long before Gary Jackson abruptly departed CCBill, he complained to me that I didn't appreciate CCBill enough. I told him that I am very strong proponent of CCBill, and that I even offered him a suggestion of how to be improve customer service and relations, and cut down on the negative feedback. I suggested that instead of having a standing rule that they pay on Mondays, then 10 times a year put out a panic email that the upcoming Monday is a bank holiday and they will be paying on Tuesday, I suggested that they have a standing rule that they pay on Tuesday, then 40 times a year they pay on Monday and the customers will be ecstatic that they got paid a day early!
But then he left them. I was surprised to learn that he went with PayPal. PayPal serves a strong purpose, but their fees are high and they don't have a easy favorable view to "adult". The big motivating factor why I went with CCBill in 2009, was when I woke up one day having sold a few hundred dollars in digital download e-Books which PayPal got upset about. I think it still is possible, but I haven't taken the time to ride that roller coaster ride again. In the many years since 1999 I've had PayPal accounts come go for the same illogical reason or reasons that I had eBay accounts that came and went. Thus I'm real happy with CCBill. On the other hand, in 2015 I got a email one day from PayPal that they wanted me to convert my PayPal account to a "business" account. At that point in time, I had not used the account for years and I kind of hinted why I should even bother? They said just do it, it's free. I did and I've had that account in that status for 10 years now. I send and receive funds and I buy things fairly often every week. Updating to the "business" account actually was their way of implementing KYC. Extremely painless and has now lasted for 10 years. The account has merchant ability, but I have not used it because there are so many other platforms, including Amazon that do all that for me.
