Is movie anti-hotlink protection necessary or is the amount of leeched traffic not always too excessive to be concerned about?

i think leeching can hurt you pretty bad, if someone from a large message board hot links your video then your bandwidth can be eaten up quickly

Just be sure to allow google images too hotlink otherwise you may be missing traffic.

It depends who hotlinks to your movies, but sometimes you don't even know if you been hotlinked or not, cus the thiefs use an empty HTTP_REFER to bypass htaccess, so its not traceable. I am aware of a big asian hotlinking site where there are movie galleries hotlinked more than 40000 times
