aba number and swift code?

I see on alot of the sponsors they ask for your aba number and swift code. First of all what are these? They also want bank account number and other bank information. Why do they need that if I choose to be paid by check?

If you choose to get paid by check, you don't need to fill in those bank account details ... as for the swift code, you can ask your bank for it.

well, just like the man said, ask your bank for details, or if you do not have bank account, you'll have to open one, swift code is unique code of your bank, this is important if you are not in the same country as the payer is so he can pay you, aba is probably your bank account number
