Buying Links - Good Idea, If So, Where From?

Hey guys - I've been messing around with a blog for a little while in my spare time. It's something I mainly do just for a bit of fun and so haven't taken any major steps to generate traffic (although I've thrown up some affiliate links, etc. so if traffic happens I'm set up for it).

I wondered what the current think is on buying links - good idea, or bad idea? (Currently I have no links into the site.)

At the moment I'm a hobbyist (if that can exist here) so I don't really have the time or inclination to invest a lot of time in traffic-building strategies that I know a lot of you guys use. I am, however, happy to put some money into building traffic to see how it goes. Hence, why I'm considering link building. I do feel the site has some SEO potential, but I'm presuming I need to build up traffic to make the most of this too? (I've read some of the educational stuff here - really useful).

If you guys think buying links is still a viable way of increasing your site's traffic, could anyone recommend a scheme?

If it's not a good idea, I'll appreciate being given the heads up.

Cheers.

There's certainly no shortage of opinions on this topic, and certainly no shortage of people who will try to sell you links.

The best thing you can do is create a strategy before buying anything. Figure out your demographics, your goals, your targets, keywords, long and short tail phrases, and so on. Then seek out reputable sites with whom you think could complement your own site's demographics.

Buying links is a strategy that works very well, but you need to be smart about it and understand that it should be part of a larger strategy, not just a links only strategy. You need to consider long term goals, short term goals and use ongoing assessments. It's all about creating a foundation that is sustainable that can generate a positive ROI.

Look through the buy and sell forum. Chances are you will get lots of offers if you ask in there. But, perform your due diligence beforehand.

Buyings links aren't good. They can be considered as spam if someone finds out.

Google is shutting down sites that sale back links.

It IS a really good way to gain a traffic and get seo boost if it is done correctly.

It is not recommended to buy a bulk of links even if most of them are high page rank sites.

It has to look naturally.

If you want to increase traffic to your site, I would recommend social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, VK, Reddit, and StumbleUpon. As far as buying links, it is not recommended, but people tend to do it in xxx niche. It is more for seo purposes though, I think. It also depends on the link. There are links that generate a lot of traffic too...
