It's interesting but it will likely cost too much to be a viable money saver in regard to fuel costs. Motorcycles are already fairly fuel efficient so it would need to sell at a very reasonable price to be anything more than a show off toy or collectors item. Being it only has a 130 mile range.

I guess 130 miles is fine for a work commute, but certainly not a touring bike. It think it would be interesting if they can ever increase the range to 250-300 miles.

My 99 road king gets 40 mpg riding double.
Probably cost the same to have electric. Battery life in a bike is not that long anyways.

I have to say though, watching it again, would be a fun little bike to ride.

It's a fantastic idea, and one that I'm surprised took this long to come around. Bikes are lighter and smaller, so batteries can be smaller too and therefore charge faster too. This bike can also go from 0 to 100 in only 4 seconds. Very impressive.

A rough estimate says you pay about $19.25 to travel 200 miles. (Average price of gas in the US is $3.85 X 5 Gallons which is I think is the capacity of your tank). You are spending 233% more to fuel your current bike than the Harley Davidson electric bike. (The average cost of electricity in the US is 12 cents per kilowatt hour, and the average price of gas in the US today is $3.85 per gallon (which will probably go up now thanks to the new turmoil in Iraq, argh). I haven't found the specs for the bike except that the electric motor delivers 10Khw and that it charges in about 30 minutes to 1 hour) , but my 15Khw car costs me only 6 cents per hour per to charge, and takes 3-4 hours.)

If you mean the charge, you're probably right, but hopefully it will be at least 150 miles or so.

I sure you'd love to get an electric Harley, but I think when the time to purchase comes around you'd probably buy an electric Vespa instead.

I saw a couple of electric motorcycles the other day...almost silent. All I could think about was what pussies the guys riding them must be!

nothing like being completely silent on the road to make you 10 times more likely to not be seen...

I've never understood the point of a loud motorcycle. Just sounds rude. We have a guy here on our street with one and it's fucking dumb loud waking us up every night. The guy is a bit of a dick about it too because he revs it on the street - as if he is about to race someone.

I don't really understand Harleys either. It just screams "I'm an old man".

Why would they be pussies? They:

- Pay less for energy
- Don't pollute
- Make no noise and disturb no one

And the bikes are just as fast, if not faster than gas bikes. They also benefit by less wear and tear (less moving parts, less friction, less heat), and advance technology.

Gas bike drivers on the other hand:
- Pay at least 200% more for energy
- Pollute like crazy (Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxides, etc). In fact gas Motorcycles emit 12 Times more Total Hydrocarbons than cars according to the Journal of Air & Waste Management Association : http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/1....1995.10467347
- Make lots of noise. Vendizlla's 99 Road King probably does about 102 decibels unless he installed a louder aftermarket exhaust.

If anything, people on electric bikes are much cooler than people on gas bikes. They want to spend less, use clean energy, respect others, etc. What's not cool about that?

Also, gas bike owners should be happy. If this whole electric thing really takes off, The value of gas cars & bikes will go up, not down.

Don't get me wrong - I like motorcycles, but what is "Cool" is relative. I used to think that gas cars were cool but now I don't. I used to think that Gas motorcycles were cool, but now I don't. To me, what is "cool" is what makes sense from a technology point of view. Gasoline and oil will always have its place, but its no longer "cool" to me.

There was a guy like that here too. He would start his bike, rev it about 10 times in about 30 seconds for no reason, drive away, come back, then rev it again about 10 times before turning it off. Just fucking stupid.

Yes, but... You can put a gallon of gas into a bike and drive for like six zillion miles.

Wow, you always comment on shit you have no clue about!

I'm older than you and when I ride my harley around, I get girls asking for a ride at every stop. I would own a Harley over a Ferrari. I have more fun on it.

As far as loud, that's to let the asshole with the ear buds on know you are next to him. When Ear Buds while driving in California is illegal!

And riding with your friends is the best, we get together and go to different events in LA, like the great brunch at the Sage Brush Cantina where they have a large motorcycle parking area right in front. Or head to Malibu and ride up the coast. Maybe just to a charity event, Bikers are always doing that, I like the ones the Hells Angels do the best.

Taking my girl up to Carpinteria this weekend maybe for a great steak at the Palms, which has been open for over 100 years!

Wakes you up every night? What 10 pm?

You obviously have never experienced the intense joy and the sense of extreme satisfaction that can only come from riding down a street and setting off every single car alarm along your path

Haha... no...

Remember Ghetto Blasters? Those big giant portable radios carried around by idiots blasting their favourite music to everyone around them whether they wanted to hear it or not?

Isn't it possible that people like you and them want to draw attention to themselves to exhibit their dominance over others? Secure their position as alpha male of the street? Or maybe you / they need constant reminders of their perceived importance, or perceived coolness? This is something only a psychologist or shrink could answer.

Vendy, don't take such a big shit anytime someone challenges you on things. Trust me, we get it: Bikes look cool. They are cool and have been since they were invented. You drive a Harley which is the coolest of the cool bikes. The sound that they make can be considered cool too just like people consider the sounds of certain cars to be cool. Not everyone things its cool because like I said, "Cool" is a relative term. it's subjective.

Peace.

you really think buying electric = spending less, uses clean energy and respects others?

You = also wrong about the above facts, but you think linking a fucking taiwan report from 1995 is proofs. more

Yeah, that's always fun.

Just like looking at a car with kids and they are all staring at you!

Or people crossing the walk and telling you "NICE BIKE"

I just got back from getting some lunch, came out of a grocery store and hot woman was standing next to my bike checking it out.

Just don't see that happening with an electric chevy volt! LOL

Want a real thrill, ride with a pack of patched 1%'s down the freeway at 90 mph.

A loud bike will save your life. I put a termignoni exhaust system on my ducati and it lets people know im coming. I split lanes so having a loud bike saves my life and lets people know im coming through, so they can move over to give me some room.

I have a 07 ultra.

And I would love to have one of these electric bikes.

It's not silent. It has a distinct whine from the gearbox that sounds badass.

Plus it's unique. And I think that's what I like about it most.

Oh no...I get all that and you are totally right BUT somehow it just seems WRONG...there is no rebellion in a silent bike...the bike itself loses it's voice - I want to hear it scream a big "FUCK YOU" to the world!

Some people think eating a vegan hot dog is rebellious or maybe driving a battery powered car? LOL

No. I think that revving a noisy bike in a quiet neighbourhood for no reason is disrespectful.

That's totally fine with me. First, I already have a chick. Second, I don't really find the need for the kind of, lets call it "validation", that you seem to require.

True story : When I had my Camaro, I was at stop light. I gave a "thumbs up" to the driver of the other car, which happened to be a Volt.

See? Do you get it? I, me, personally, just don't think gas is cool. I, me, personally, think electric is cool. "Cool", is relative and subjective. Your chick at the grocery store thought your bike (and you I guess) were cool. Another chick at the grocery store might not think you or your bike were cool. That's, that's all.. stop getting so bent out of shape about things man... you need to smoke a doobie and relax.

Yeah, those bags just don't look right. I see you have a corbin seat, I have some friends that love them. I love my LePara seat. 600 miles one day, Vegas and back, no worries. Was a windy day too.

Sometimes bags can look sexy, like this big bear chopper with a 117 in motor for $63k

Yeah I love my Corbin Baby Alligator, the nice thing is I can make an appointment with Corbin, ride a few hours (for me) up to Hollister, have lunch and ride home with a new seat custom-molded for my ass all in the same day.
LePara makes some sweet seats too, I know a few guys who swear by them.

There have been some really innovative and just plain fucking awesome baggers built in the last few years but I had decided that because I hadn't been on a bike since my last crash 20+ years ago I thought going with a lighter bike would be the better way to dip my toes back in, so I went with the Dyna.
I'd wanted a Wide Glide since I saw one back in 92, 20 years later and I'm riding the piss out of it.

My bike came with the LePara seat, it has gel in it. It's a $500 seat made for tall guys as it sits low in the saddle. I'm 6'3" so it's perfect for me and I love my road king. Bigger tires don't catch the groove on the freeways and I'm having a trunk I bought color matched right now. Everything clips on, I can remove the back rest, the windshield and the luggage rack in less than a minute giving it a completely different look.

Living in the Valley, there are hundreds of custom shops for whatever you need, one of my best friends owns a motorcycle shop.

Because I live next to the ocean it gets sprayed down with Bike Spirits and wiped clean every single week to remove the bugs and keep the corrosion away.

But that reminds me I need to add some more chrome soon

I guess 130 miles is fine for a work commute, but certainly not a touring bike. It think it would be interesting if they can ever increase the range to 250-300 miles.
It is obvious you have never ridden a bike for any distance.
