How do u ask someone for loan repayment??

ok so there this family friend, shes starting a new business(she kinda has money), so she calls me and said she's run out of money and she needed a big loan and will pay me back in a week.. so i wired her $10k.. now she doesnt even mention anything about it.. its been almost 3 weeks now.. how do i nicely ask her for the money without alienating her since we are very good friends..

Amputate Your Head 05-27-2010 10:23 AM

Don't let that 'friend' shit get in the way. $10k is more than borrowing a few bucks for something. You should have had her sign a repayment agreement. Only you can decide which is more valuable to you... your friend or the money. I would start with, "hey.... what's going on? It's been three weeks".

xxweekxx 05-27-2010 10:33 AM

yeah i know.. shes a cool chic but i need that $10k

Exactly.

I have a friend who owes me $XXXX and I am on him all the fucking time. It does not matter if he is life long friend or not. Once you have paid your tab, we'll go back to being 'friendly'.

Sly 05-27-2010 10:39 AM

"I gave you $10,000 out of good faith on your promise to return it within a week, it's been three weeks. As you promised, I need the money back. This is something I shouldn't have to ask for, I'm pretty disappointed."

Case closed. Never give money to family or friends if you expect to get it back. Never.

Next question: what brand of toilet paper is best for the bitches?

cosis 05-27-2010 10:40 AM

take it as a lesson learned. you rarely receive money back you lend to family/friends.

Since I live in the third-world I buy the most expensive imported TP I can find.. Usually it's some type of Charmin or Cottonelle.. Wins the bitches over every time cause at their house they don't have strong plumbing and use the Latin America poop paper garbage can, but I can flush my comfy Charmin like it's going out of style.

woj 05-27-2010 10:46 AM

my guess is you will lose BOTH the $10k and a friend over this... like someone said above NEVER lend money to friends...

Bhunter 05-27-2010 10:47 AM

you do her an offer she can't refuse

Then you should not of loaned it to her. Never lend money to friends is my motto. The banks are there to do that.

Sly 05-27-2010 11:03 AM

Question: if she kind of has money, why did she need yours? If she couldn't get a loan from a bank, why did you think it was a good idea to loan her the money?

Anything money you cannot think of family and friends. You have to think business. Otherwise you'll get screwed.

she said she ran out of money and she'd be closing a bunch of deals so she'll be able to pay me back asap... i said ok.. come to think of it she didnt even say thanks when the money came.. now im just thinking of putting my foot down and saying this,

"hey i wired u the money from my biz acct, i kinda need it to run my day to day stuff and i dont wanna dip into my savings.. when do u think u'll be able to send it back"

How does that sound?

I think that is way too passive.

Don't say "I kind of need the money." It doesn't matter if you need the money, the deal was the deal. Don't say "I don't want to dip into savings." That doesn't even matter. Don't ask "when can you have me paid back?" That doesn't matter either, payback date has come and gone.

Offer a reminder of the terms. Say that you are disappointed. And you hope that this can be resolved before you are left with no other option to take steps that neither of you want to happen.

I don't care who you are, $10,000 is a lot of money. Don't be a pussy about it, it's your money. Get it back.

just say, 'what's the deal with the 10k?'.. potentially add the biz account if you want to add a bit of guilt to the situation

You call, you say a biz opportunity has come up that you need the money for and that It would be great if you could get the 10k back asap. The biz opportunity is internet based. End of story.

You dont have a leg to stand on in a lawsuit.

Mark my words: she will come up with excuse after excuse for delaying the repayment.
I think you have been taken advantage of. Say goodbye to that money.

Don't lend what you can't afford to lose.

Well, if her dad is worth 100 mil then he sounds like a wise businessman.
And if he refused to give 10k to his daughter, you can deduce that whatever she is up to is a major FAIL

Just call her and tell you need the money. See what she answers to that.

Seems to me you are NOT good friends and she's just using you. Off course she trusts you with her stuff like car, apartment, etc. She's broke! What does she care, you lend her 10k.

xxweekxx 05-27-2010 12:25 PM

which inconsistency? i dont have time to come here and make bogus lies..im worried about how NOT to lose my friend and get my money back

I would be upset because she said 1 week and the loan was not repaid. I would have been even more upset that she didn't have the common courtesy to call me after 7 days and make up some BS excuse or at least make a partial payment.

Your fault for not calling on day 7 and asking for the money. People like her have the mentality like this.... They know you have money obviously just sitting around you don't need. They need it. You think nothing of sending it to them with no contract, loan terms, or anything. They tell you 1 week. It's been 3 weeks and you still haven't called to ask about it. They are convinced that the money is no big deal to you, you gave it away and not even checking up on it. So why are they going to sweat paying you back when they are in a bind and you don't need it or don't care about it.

When you make a big deal about loaning it, put interest rates on it. Say that you need this back, blah blah, you can only do this for 1 week because you need it for something else, etc... then you check with them on day 7, they will think a lot differently and you are much more likely to get paid.

What you can do now. Call up, tell them something came up you need the money back, its been 2 weeks over due, why haven't they called you. When they say they dont have it tell them you need 1/2, 1/4 something. and set up a payment schedule. because i think there is 0% chance you getting the money back in one lump sum any time soon.

Then you don't loan it, say you loaned it to someone else, or that you had some big expenses come up and you can't tie it up.

Sue her??? on what grounds? What proof do you have. You "GAVE" her money. Did you set up a contract, loan repayments, interest etc? If you just handed it over, you have no case. And even if it did, it will cost you more than 10K to sue her, go to court, win, file judgments against her and try to collect. And if she is borrowing money from you that probably means she is losing everything else so what would she have of value for you to lien ?

Seriously you are fucked. But it is your own fault. No contract, no terms, hand money away, person says 1 week and its 3 weeks later and you haven't even called them yet? so fucked.

The " i will be closing some deals soon" then sounds like you don't need to borrow money, because you will be closing a deal in the next week and will have money from that. The "deals" always fall through. And when they do there is no way to repay you.

See a few of my replies up. Demand the money, and then be willing to accept something even 1K from her, any money you can get is better than nothing, then you put her ass on a payment plan and HOUND HER till you get it all but it might take you a year or longer if you stay very persistent. People like her will hope you give up and go away after a couple payments.

I have never borrowed money from anyone, and do not plan to.

I did a 'mainstream' topic search the other day and your thread got stuck in my head I guess. Just found it a bit strange to see you say you need it. You should be saying you need it to the person you lend it to, not us.
