LikeWhoa is getting fixed... I just called Nick
Ok well I feel bad calling people on Thanksgiving even tho we lost a little biz -- but I called Nick -- he was just about to have dinner with his family... Nick asked me to post this...
I hope I get this all right because I'm not really a network engineer type... A technician has been sent out to fix the problem, it sounds like the local fiber loop is dirty. This is not a provider payment issue as for all the rumors that have been going around. When I was in NY last month LikeWhoa was ordering new connections from some upstream provider and they even sent us a case of Crystal which I have to admit was fun. These bandwidth providers are bored out of their minds and working with an adult company really makes them feel "cool" -- you know they want to party with us adult biz guys... We were hooking up for dates w/ the sales girls from the upstream providers... LikeWhoa employs certain former upstream provider employees so that's how they basically have access to inside information/hookups... At least that's my understanding -- so Nick says that LikeWhoa will soon have reduntant connections w/ new upstreams that you can all jerk off on 99.999999% of the time, but until then just wait for an official statement from LikeWhoa... because I'm just a genius TheFLY, but not a network engineer. |
Personally I'm just going to enjoy Lensman's turkey -- I'm about to pick it up from the mailroom -- haven't even seen it yet!
Thanks Lensman I'm going to take a pic of it as soon as I get my hands on it. I hope it defrosts in time! I didn't call my friend to take the turkey out of the freezer until 11am... we are eating at 4pm! |
so how can they approach me and tell me that they can offer me the best verio bandwidth and not even have it?! they sign me up on dedicated make me move all my sites, for this SHIT.

I am curious do they give u a free dedicated server as well? Like they do with others on this board? |
dirty fiber lines (rotfl!)? maybe they're using one of the powerful Internet cleaning robots from last leap year.
*** Attention *** It's that time again! As many of you know, each leap year the Internet must be shut down for 24 hours in order to allow us to clean it. The cleaning process, which eliminates dead email and inactive ftp, www and gopher sites, allows for a better-working and faster Internet. This year, the cleaning process will take place from 12:01 a.m. GMT on Feb. 29 until 12:01 a.m. GMT on March 1. During that 24-hour period, five powerful Internet-crawling robots situated around the world will search the Internet and delete any data that they find. In order to protect your valuable data from deletion we ask that you do the following: 1. Disconnect all terminals and local area networks from their Internet connections. 2. Shut down all Internet servers, or disconnect them from the Internet. 3. Disconnect all disks and hardrives from any connections to the Internet. 4. Refrain from connecting any computer to the Internet in any way. We understand the inconvenience that this may cause some Internet users, and we apologize. However, we are certain that any inconveniences will be more than made up for by the increased speed and efficiency of the Internet, once it has been cleared of electronic flotsam and jetsam. We thank you for your cooperation. |

I was not angry when I made my last post. All I asked was do they provide you with a free dedicated server? Like they do with many on this board in return for postive comments etc. |
I have some sites hosted w/ LikeWhoa and some other sites hosted with Five Elements... Yeah my Five-E bandwidth is more expensive, but I still want to keep my LikeWhoa service... If one provider goes down I still have sites running on the other.
|
IF i am TOLD i will be on VERIO bandwidth when they ALREADY KNOW THAT I WILL NOT, that pisses me off.
regardless of whether i run adult.com or seans_bookmarks.com |

Everybody has downfalls from time to time. This being the case for LikeWhoa at the moment.
Im sure they are hard at work on the problem, and Im sure it will be fiexd soon. Even through all this I can still say they are the best I've had. later, Ray |

Man who cares what they told you about Verio bandwidth... When was this? Maybe at the time you were contacted by the salesperson there WAS Verio bandwidth at LikeWhoa... Part of what I pay my host to do is to find the best hosting deals possible -- this is not a static fucking business -- all kinds of wheels are turning and if your host is just sitting pretty twiddling thumbs not negotiating deals and finding the best value then they are fucking stupid.
The thing about Nick is that he has PLENTY of money -- but people that have lots of money don't stay rich by blowing it on crap that is not important -- you spend the money on the shit that counts. I can honestly say that the employees at LikeWhoa are some of the best negotiator and deal making geniuses that I have ever met or observed in my life... These guys are fucking smart and if you meet them in Vegas I really challenge you to talk shit to them directly because they will tear you a new asshole. |

it will work sooner or later

if they gave free hosting away to everyone on this board, they wouldn't make much money....
i'm getting a bit pissed about the downtime, but hopefully everything gets back on track like it was earlier. i'm confident that they'll get their shit together. |
paid hosting is a scam
i run my porn empire from geocities |

When you're at the top there will always be haters. Lots of companies hate LikeWhoa because LikeWhoa does get the best deals on bandwidth and they CAN offer prices that are basically putting all of the other hosts out of biz... and making them fucking angry. Capitalism is not pretty... There's no reason for hosting companies to fix bandwidth prices and all live in harmony.
The hosting industry is consolidating and there's not a fucking think that any of these hater hosts can do about it. Only the strongest and smartest will survive and that's it... To me it seems kindof simple -- who can plug a box into the internet for the cheapest price while keeping the customer happy. From a customer's perspective, hosting is not brain surgery. I need my site hosted somewhere -- so I pay some money. Who ever keeps the site up for the cheapest price gets my business. It's not rocket science guys. It's consolidating and there's lots of haters so stop crying -- all your bitching on message boards won't make your hosting prices cheaper. If you can't compete then you can't compete. A feeding frenzy will only be temporary. Anyway I'm going to eat some Turkey. |

Just going to step in here and say that advertising in lots of places, spending 200k at Internext and having your name in people's sigs != being at the top!
There are lots of other hosts, some very low key that push a LOT more BW than LikeWhoa. |

5%, 10%, 50% Granted it's different for free sites, how large and profitable the site is, and so on. But just as a rule of thumb, what would you ask for? I'm not implying that I'm going to ask for a refund. But would be intereted to hear your input.:) |

Last I heard, LW had a 3Gbps capacity. |
SleazyDream they give good down time discounts although I'd way rather have my network running.
I just got off the phone with the NOC and it's a hardware problem. I'm going to go ride my bike then eat chow and hope this shit is fixed by then. This fucking sucks. |
up but not happy

I've even endorsed them - without a doubt they are cheap, the cheapest I know of. Downtime happens with EVERY hosting company on the planet - period. Fact of life. Where professionalism comes in is how that company deals with the screwups. Likewhoa has had many days of problems - on a more expensive host I'd be demanding a free month and I'd get it or leave. For likewhoa prices you'll have to decide for yourself what would be fair and weigh that against what likewhoa has saved you over the years with their rock bottom prices. I firmly believe you get what you pay for and I personally pay more ( a LOT more) not to have prolems ever, and my site is NEVER down. I do pay though the nose for that though and I would have a LOT more money in my bank account if I had used likewhoa, although I'd probally be residing in a mental instutation cause the stress of downtime problems like what's happening to them recently is more than my fradgile little ego can handle. |
