If not, no real reason to be bitching. :)

exactly what I need, how do you run a DNS though, any good tutorials out there?

I gotta become a freakin admin now too in addition to being a web designer, graphic designer, script installer, cause I don't think there is ANY host that can ever keep their act together all the time.

Gleem....

You and I go wayyy back. Hit me up on ICQ and I can tell you how to take control of your hosting man :)

It's not too terribly difficult.

I always hear from those LikeWhoa guys that their company is so great, but the cannot keep their own connection alive??!

missnglnk 11-28-2002 05:11 PM

Wiltel/Williams doesn't buy Cogent bandwidth, they peer with them. There's a big difference, and Cogent is a customer of Wiltel by the way.

I'm not in the US and thanksgiving has already past where I live. So no festivities here. Just slapping my cock against the keyboard hoping it put LW back online.

I stand by my word that likewhoa has the best support around...

In the 5 years I've been doing business here, I've seen every single company being bashed or complained about by reputable people... people I knew weren't making it up...

But, what differentiate the ones that are still around and the ones that are gone, what differentiate the BIG companies from the smaller ones is not the amount of time they screwed up or did something wrong.... but how they manage their business models and how they interract with their clients/partners.

Just with any companies, I've had my shares of issues with Likewhoa... and just like everyone I wasn't happy about the downtimes... But, Everytime something happened, it was handled with professionalism and understanding... Everytime I needed something else... a deal to be worked out... or something to be done with our serrvers, Either Nick himself or the kick ass crew there has been helping me in the best of ways...

Hell, I'm sure Moisey, Dennis and Ben are probably waiting for me to leave their hosting rather than keeping me LOL... with all the tech issues I have almost everyday (most oftently 5 times a day) running our 5 servers there, I'm always surprised how happy they are to assist me in any way I can imagine.. Thanks a lot guys... :thumbsup

and the same :thumbsup :thumbsup goes to Stan and Nick for running a class act company...

Now, let's leave those issues behind and bring me that 10gb BW so I can chew off of that and grow along with you guys :)

I would ask for at least a free month of hosting due to this multi-day downtime.

pentae 11-28-2002 07:44 PM

I'm not going to bitch about LW.

If i had more of a solid relationship with them like some of you others do, I would probably be backing them up and staying as well.

I've only had a small vhost with them for about 3 months. I thought putting up with the ocassional downtime every few days during that period was very understanding of me.

But in the last week its become a joke. Not like a laugh your ass off joke but more of a bozo the clown joke.

But this is hosting, its not people, relationships or politics. Its about uptime and quality, sorry LikeWhoa, I am leaving and won't be coming back to you guys.

r-c-e 11-28-2002 07:54 PM

Running uptime with LikeWhoa since we have hosted one site with them: 97.1758%

Peer One has reliable and fast bandwidth also.

Well sites that want bookmarks and trades really suffer. If your daily routine was submitting some galleries then losing 4-5 hours is no big deal (normally). Toplists would be hardest hit since they don't get many bookmark returns, and rely almost 100% on trades. Same with cjs and that type of site.

I'll be checking out isprime for hosting some new sites. I'm sick of downtime.

Marcus 11-29-2002 03:29 AM

so is everybody's site back up now?

$50 for 7.5GB of transfer. :1orglaugh

Those prices are almost double what flying croc is charging and flying croc is stable enough.
Is this a joke?

funkmaster 11-29-2002 04:20 AM

no, this is no joke. you said that you have not seen a single company not being bashed or complained about by reputable people, so I replied to your statement.

I did not say go and host your galleries at cavecreek because they are the cheapest out there.

And what happens if the host that keep your own DNS is going down ? Since every host has downtimes once in a while your solution doesn't guarantee 100% uptime.
No combination will ever get you 100% uptime but indeed keeping a back up copy of your site somewhere else will improve your uptime.

100% uptime = rackspace

*** Attention ***

It's that time again!

As many of you know, each leap year the Internet must be shut down for 24 hours in order to allow us to clean it. The cleaning process, which eliminates dead email and inactive ftp, www and gopher sites, allows for a better-working and faster Internet.

This year, the cleaning process will take place from 12:01 a.m. GMT on Feb. 29 until 12:01 a.m. GMT on March 1. During that 24-hour period, five powerful Internet-crawling robots situated around the world will search the Internet and delete any data that they find.

In order to protect your valuable data from deletion we ask that you do the following:

1. Disconnect all terminals and local area networks from their Internet connections.

2. Shut down all Internet servers, or disconnect them from the Internet.

3. Disconnect all disks and hardrives from any connections to the Internet.

4. Refrain from connecting any computer to the Internet in any way.

We understand the inconvenience that this may cause some Internet users, and we apologize. However, we are certain that any inconveniences will be more than made up for by the increased speed and efficiency of the Internet, once it has been cleared of electronic flotsam and jetsam. We thank you for your cooperation.

LMAO!!!

Yup they are at home working real hard on this problem! Oh wait - It's not their fault! They have this big bad redundant network but yet they have "dirty fiber loops"
