How many of you go to the gym?

I just started going back to the gym and it's kicking my ass.

I'm doing this class every day call spin/cycle class where you do a roadracing type stationary bike workout for about an hour.

I spoke to the person that suggested this class to me after my first time doing it and told her that my legs felt like jello and I wanted to throw up.

Here is a picture of the machine that whoops my butt.

What do you guys do when you are at the gym or what do you do for exercise at home?

tony286 03-26-2006 12:42 AM

When I get back from my shooting trip, I found a 24 hr gym by me. I m going to join gonna do some cardio and light weight training for the first 12 weeks to get the rust out. Then take from there. I maybe fat but I decided I will be fit.

Pure Evil 03-26-2006 12:43 AM

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week depending on the week. and yeah, those spinning bikes are about the most brutal piece of equipment there.

Sinstar 03-26-2006 12:50 AM

I go to the gym 1-2 times a week. I work out a lot on my own though. I go running every other day, and I have some equipment in my house.

FlogTheLog 03-26-2006 12:52 AM

whats this "Gym" thing you speak of

avalanche 03-26-2006 12:54 AM

I drive by....Del Taco is next door.

DoctorSticky 03-26-2006 12:56 AM

Wow, that thing looks crazy. I stick to the traditional treadmill or stair stepper for cardio.

kristin 03-26-2006 12:56 AM

I've just lost a bunch of weight now it's just time to firm up. I have to wait a little bit longer for my arm to heal and then I'm going to get a personal trainer. I'm pretty sure they will whip me into shape pretty fast.

But I've heard incredible things about spin class...I've even looked into it. I enjoy bike riding, it's better to me than running, much easier on the knees too.

davecummings 03-26-2006 12:57 AM

I don't do the gym thing, but I do a 4-6 mile jog/brisk-walk almost every day.

Dave

Anya 03-26-2006 01:11 AM

I do it every now & then :winkwink:

Glad you're enjoying it, babe, I'm proud of you! :wetkiss

I couldn't stay interested in a gym, that's why I started all the MMA stuff. I get a great workout but also have to think the whole time so I never get bored.

Pornwolf 03-26-2006 02:21 AM

I lift 4 days a week but I am thinking of taking more spinning classes weekly. Probably the best cardio workout available.

d_train 03-26-2006 08:34 PM

I don't have time to regularly go to the gym. I jog every morning and lift weights at home

Pornopat 03-26-2006 08:41 PM

Not doing anything else in there cause I want to save my knees.

That's a helluva schedule there. If you aren't in top shape by summertime then just say fuck it, quit and stuff your face with chips & queso. :1orglaugh

Young 03-27-2006 12:39 AM

I love the gym...If i'm not out with friends or home working I can usually be found at the gym. My seasonal job requires me to be in shape.

6'2" 200lbs, 16 inch biceps, 32 inch waist, 8 pack.

I go to the gym 6 days a week. Eat 5 meals a day (3 meals, 2 shakes). Drink a gallon of water a day. Do 45min of cardio on the Eleptical 4 times a week and I do SPIN every Friday morning at 5:45AM till 7:15AM. I do 8 minute abs 3 times a week and work out my abs in the gym 2 times a week and I hit the sauna on Sundays.

I do opposites one week

mon& thur chest/back,
tues& fri bi's/tris
wed&sun shoulder/legs

The next week I'll switch it up to keep the muscles guessing and ill add in traps

mon&thur Chest/Tri's
tues&fri back/bi's
wed&sun shoulders/traps/legs

Saturday is my off day/ cheat day. When I go out I'll limit myself to one or two beers and usually stick to drinking Jack Daniels on the rocks or Gin Martini's.

The 6 day gym week kicks my ass and leaves me tired but it also prevents me from boozing all the time or induldging in junk food. Though I am addicted to Coca-Cola I tend to split a can with anyone that is around or dump out 2/3 of my 20oz prior to drinking to it. Coke is usually one of the only sources of simple carbs/sugar I have in the day so it balances out in the end. But drinking a gallon of water a day kills the urge to have a coke.

For the summer time I will be around 185lbs in order to bring my body fat percentage down.

*** Maintaining at the gym is all about creating a routine for yourself. If you make the gym a part of your routine you will never miss a day. You will actually feel disgusted when you do.

I challenge any person here who does not go to the gym to give it a shot for 2 weeks...a total of 10 days in the gym and 4 days off. I guarantee that you will get motivated and want to do something about your body if you are indeed overweight.

If anyone ever needs any advice or has any questions just hit up my ICQ.

SGS 03-27-2006 12:42 AM

I have my own gym and still struggle to use it more than twice a week. Need to put more time aside for keeping fit as we go into spring.

Bob_cougar 03-27-2006 12:48 AM

i spend 2-3 hours in the gym, thrice a week.

GTS Mark 03-27-2006 12:50 AM

I play hockey twice a week for an hour, it's semi-competitive. I take my dog for a 30 minute walk everyday and I have been hitting the gym 3-4 times a week now.

Dropped about 8-9 pounds in the past 2 weeks so I am pretty stoked at the early results.

Young I will hit you up, I have some questions in regards to my routine that maybe you can tweak.

Thanks,
DH

Pornwolf 03-27-2006 01:03 AM

Young, for what you are doing your weight is waaay off. Bro, I'm 215 with 8% bodyfat at 5' 11" and I don't have to do cardio for more than 3 times a week, usually no more than 20 minutes as a warm up or cool down from lifting... and that's only to increase my oxygen intake capacity and stamina.

It looks like you are overtraining considerably. Cut half your cardio. From your height and weight I can tell you are a pure ectomorph. Losing fat doesn't seem like a concern so let your body rest a bit and stack some muscle.

Anya

How often do you go?

Outride you? Yeah in my dreams along with a bunch of other things I would do to you :Graucho

L0stMind 03-27-2006 01:07 AM

I am eating 6 meals a day, doing liss cardio for 45 mins every morning, lifting 2 days on, 1 day off. 1 day a week I take off from my diet and eat out for dinner and have some perogies/hashbrowns and stuff for breakfast...

down to 170lbs 10% bf @ 5' 8"... Hoping to get down to about 8% bf over the next few weeks...

tristan_D 03-27-2006 01:23 AM

Back in my old job we're given free gym membership so I used to go twice a week. But since I quit the job I just once a week

I'm bulking...then I shed. Nothing odd. I gain and drop weight like it was my job. I do each body part 2 times a week. No overtraining there. I've been in the gym for 7 years...I can see every stomach muscle and my shoulders biceps and triceps look like they were seperated with a knife. I run as much as I do for endurance. No bf% to give because I don't trust calipers or scales...i get the real deal...but i'm guessing i'm sitting around 10%. After I ease up on the legs, and drop another percent or two I should be at 185.

With those numbers you just posted i would also question the accuracy of your body fat percentage. You can't know for sure until you get into the water. 197lbs of muscle on a 5'11 frame with only 17lbs of fat? And you're only in the gym 3 days a week? Not likely....unless your on DNP

Young 03-27-2006 01:37 AM

Pornwolf...actually your numbers seem pretty reasonable. Since I have a friend who is at about 8% at 5'10' 215. but he juices...not saying you do. but those numbers are possible.

as far as i go...definately not a hard gainer. I actually have crazy genetics. But I am a model and do work 4 months of out the year and they don't like to see me above 190lbs....or I don't work. But I appreciate the suggestions..
