Seems AVS finally got hit
This will keep a lot of people very busy for the next week or so. We all knew 'something' was going to happen. Hopefully this is the extent of it. Now...how many others will follow suit?
Attention Valued SexKey Webmaster: In an effort to improve the functionality of SexKey for all of our customers and affiliates, Sexkey will be instituting a few new rule changes effective Monday, June 23rd, 2003. We are asking that the changes be made immediately to avoid any disruption in our partnership. Our staff will be going through each site Monday morning at 9:00 am. If your site has not been changed to follow these new rules by this time, your listing on the Sexkey member's area (link list) will be temporarily removed until the changes are made. We appreciate your cooperation and thank you again for your continuous support of our program. The following changes: 1) All references to "AVS" must be removed. 2) All references to "protecting your site" and "minors" must be removed 3) All references to "access to participating sites" must be removed. 4) If you are using the text signup script to promote SexKey, you MUST go to this link and get the new code. There is wording in the current code that will not be acceptable come Monday. The new code is available at http://www.sexkey.com/newcode (If you are using the graphic SexKey signup scripts there is no need to change it. Since it is hosted by us, it will be automatically changed when we update the images on our side) For approved wording to meet rule change requirements stated above, you can visit http://www.sexkey.com for some ideas. For example we have replaced "AVS" with "Your source for the best adult content", we've replaced "protecting your site from minors" with "Helping Adults surf the Web since 1997", "participating sites" was replaced with "members area" and "The largest collection of free adult content on the web" Your account reps are available live all weekend if you have any questions. Their contact information is listed below: Craig Tant Email: [email protected] Office (US Only): (800) 571-9233 ext. 223 Outside US: (732) 332-0300 ext. 223 Cell: (602) 690-8614 AIM and Yahoo: AVSCRAIG ICQ: 131247490 Dwayne Somers Email: [email protected] Office (US Only): (800) 571-9233 ext. 223 Outside US: (732) 332-0300 ext. 223 Cell: (602) 320-6246 AIM and Yahoo: AVSDWAYNE ICQ: 175991098 If, for any reason you cannot get in touch with Craig or Dwayne, you can always call our affiliate hotline at (800) 571-9233 ext. 210 Thanks again for using SexKey and we look forward to providing you with the same excellent service in the future. I don't quite understand the changes that are being made. What was wrong with the old wording? As far as I can tell, there was no deception. I'm assuming this has something to do with credit card processing?

you are a retard
next thread .... |
This might be in response to a note posted by YnotBob about future changes coming to the AVS concerning Visa or it could be what bob foretold in his note coming to be.
Here's the link: http://chat.ynotmasters.com/public/C...20&Site_ID=yno Either way there are changes coming. -joe |

Looks like VISA/MC are cracking down on the "age verification" thing. They never did like the AVS idea, so now instead of saying we're protecting minors blah blah blah, we have to come right out and say we're selling a membership. This is a big deal to ALOT of webmasters. I really feel for the guys with 1000's of AVS sites floating around out there. |

oooh i see, a retard gathering? how nice! |
Where did this info come from, I haven't received an email and I don't see it saying that anywhere in my affiliate area?
|
It's an attempt to pacify VISA a little and try to be compliant as was mentioned of GFY some while back. Seems the link posted expands on it a little for those interested.
If VISA are happy with the changes I suppose in theory it means the $750 charge wont happen as it seems to suggest that sexkey are counting themselves as the actual site and the individual AVS's as content within the site, so that they are not considered an IPSP. Just have to wait and see if that's the final answer I suppose. |

VISA is getting a big head and needs to be brought down to reality. Someone needs to step in and regulate these companies like the did with public utilities... Isn't it bad enough they charge us a percentage of our earnings... they want another 750 on top... Greedy fucking bastards! Honestly.. who gives VISA or MasterCard... more money? Joe blow that may spend 300 a month... or an adult webmaster that may send them 10,000+ a month... they need to start taking care of the business owner and stop cowering to the individual that abuses their privilage. I agree.. charge backs are a problem... most of which go uninvestigated... they just take their customers word.. They need to do more investigations to see if the chargeback is justified... or make better sure the sale is legit at the time it was made. FUCK VISA and Master Card!!! :321GFY |
I don't think it's a hoax. I just received the email, too.

In response to real questions of this thread, yes, the email is real, and yes, we are requiring modifications in order to be proactive with the coming changes in the industry.
Any one who has a question can reach me all weekend at [email protected] To our webmasters, we are sorry for the short notice, but we all know it better to be proactive when changes are required. |
there goes the weekend
:( |
Well, I just got the same bombed dropped from Free Age Card. Looks like it's going to be a loooong weekend for us AVS site owners. :(
|

|
More AVS changes to come.

looks like a lot of webmasters will be working hard this weekend...
and gj on the owning lil2rich4u2 funny pic :1orglaugh :1orglaugh |
The only real bitch about is is the short notice. VISA is to blame for the changes but to give just a few days? That's daft. A week should have been the min. It's not as if any of this is exactly unexpected so the rules could easily have been sent a week or more before any deadline.
Oh well. That would have made for good business practice so probably a little too much to expect. |
Hmm, should I shut down Outlook and start drinking heavily, or brew a vat of coffee and fire up the search 'n' replace...
|
Yep, if this was a real business, they wouldn't expect you to be at work saturday and sunday.
I guess no one over there ever heard the term business days. |

NBDesigns, you are one brilliant dude. You always seem to post the most level headed information and I must agree 100% Having been in the AVS business for years now, it was an easy simple way to have transactions handled on the web. I only run 3 sites. Other guys run a billion feeders and still don't make as much as I do. Webmasters have to understand we're fighting two battles: Webmasters who are real pieces of shit and the CC companies. Yes, porn on the web is makin Visa and MC rich. Yet it's not just us causing the fraud problems. Millions upon millions of users of cards and now they have computers. I don't think the cc companies realized the magnitude. It's not just chargebacks, it's complaints from surfers who get hit with popups, CJs, manipulative browser tactics etc. There isn't enough manpower to investigate, prosecute etc. The system is overwhelmed with criminal activity and soon if something isn't done logically, we'll be back to vigilante justice That's why you've gotta check your business pals nowadays because one guy you're hooked up to might seem cool but if he's out there doin' dirty deeds and gets pinched, your ass is called to bear as well. |

Lets be "proactive" (god I hate that word) like AVSCraig says...change ALL your sites NOW, so you'll be ahead of the game for the next one to bend over for the gods of Visa.
|
In regards to the short notice that we gave everyone, my sincere apologies.
While we knew changes were coming, we just now found out what we believe are the new requirements. With this new information, we are trying to comply as quickly as humanly possible. We felt it was better to give people a chance to modify their sites this weekend rather than to not be in compliance Monday. Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] |
I think my biggest problem with all this is the front-ends with the "marketing" text embedded in the graphics.
I didn't design them, I hired someone else and I don't have the photoshop files. Guess I can kiss those sites good bye. Or pay the designer's ransom for the photoshop files. Oh yeah, and a little more noticed would have been nice and even (gasp!) professional. /end rant |
SO WTF Craig, the overtime alone is going to ding me pretty good. Please, next time, wait until the last minute...oh wait, never mind.
|
A similar thing happened with ACPay a few weeks ago. They got hit hard by VISA and all heck broke loose.
ACPay scrambled and got the problem handled but not after webmasters were fit to form a posse or something. That should have been the writing on the wall as now everyone is getting hit. Perhaps all AVSs and webmasters should show the cc companies just how much business they are sending with their sites. Show it to their investor's board and let em' know what's goin' on. |

Craig here's the really important question, your email said that sites that don't comply with the new wording rules will be removed from the links list, but will sales from those sites still be credited to the webmaster?
|
This is a Visa situation, not one where SexKey just wanted to keep you all working over the weekend, I'm sure you all realize.
In keeping with their brand image consciousness, they are requiring some changes with the current AVS system -- I would wait to start changing up other non SexKey sites until the sponsors tell you how they would like things worded and organized, since there may be slight variations in exactly how it will be done. |
Nice idea Greg, but we're like the redheaded stepchild no one wants to acknowledge. They'll take our money at the same time they're kicking us in the head. Nice arrangement.

All I can do is express my personal opinion... if someone agrees, great... if not, well they may be misguided (lol)... but are entitled to their own opinion as well. I am just so sick of corporate america running my life... if anyone thinks different... think again... who do you think is lining the pockets of your politicians.... Face it... These CC Companies have us over a barrel and they know it... cannot do good business with out the CC's.. I mean who is going to wait till a check clears. I got screwed in a similar situation in my mainstream business.... A woman purchased a script from me... got it, used it, asked for tech support, which was 4 days of work because she knew NOTHING. This was a beta script, new program and was being sold that way... So, she is not happy with a few functions of the script... the same script that she demo'd on my site before purchase. She kept asking for the upgrad... which was in progress... if you know anything about programmig... upgrades do not come fast... I kept telling her it was still in progress and was not sure of a completion date... Anyway to make a long story short... she complained to her CC Company, said she never received her script... BULLSHIT... I had over 100 emails with tech support to her. Guess what... she got her money back, my script and a lot of my time... I got shit on by Visa and PayPal. So, now I have to ship every fucking script I sell to make sure this dies not happen again. Pain in my ass.... why is not support email, the same email she uses for PayPal... not proof? Fuck them ALL!!!!! |
Why not just say that "AVS" stands for "Adult Vice Sites" or something, rather than remove all references. After all, it always was a euphemism. Nobody really thinks its about age verifications. Every 16 year old has a Visa debit card these days.

Bugger it - time to sleep. Let's see if I wake up to another dozen e-mails from other AVS's :)
