President Obama says he?s sorry for Americans losing insurance plans

http://news.yahoo.com/president-obam...233753421.html

But already 3.5 million Americans have had their healthcare plans cancelled, according to the Associated Press. Most of these are individuals who purchased plans directly from insurers, rather than through a workplace. The reason for the cancellations: their plans changed since the signing of the new healthcare law. While Obama was promising that you could keep your plan if you purchased it prior to the signing of the law on March 23, 2010, what he didn't say was that if a provider changed the plan its grandfather status would become void.

Vermont has 626,000 residents . A $170 million exchange is $272 for every man, woman and child in the state.

Rochard says the plans were not good enough, so no big deal.

bean-aid 11-07-2013 09:53 PM

I thought obama care kicked in December?

I don't want to get into a huge debate about it... but that is what I heard. December.

directfiesta 11-07-2013 09:54 PM

major fuck-up ... unexcusable .

looky_lou 11-07-2013 10:17 PM

He never said he was sorry that his law is causing them to be canceled from their current insurance plans.

He said he is sorry that people didn't quite understand him when he said "If you like your current insurance plan, you can keep it. PERIOD!" and "If you like your current doctor, you can keep that doctor. PERIOD!".

If a healthcare plan doesn't include hospitalization, it's not really a healthcare plan at all. That's not a healthcare plan, it's a scam, and it should be criminal. Finally we have a healthcare law that takes care of this problem.... And all the Republicans are gonna do is stand in the corner and cry about it like little girls.

The new plans go live in January. The people getting these notices are being told that they will be dropped then because their existing plan doesn't cover the minimum acceptable coverage under obamacare.

I am actually one of them. I have only had a catastrophic coverage plan for years which doesn't cover doctor visits, prescriptions or anything non-life threatening. Obamacare will only let you have these kind of plans up to a certain age. In the end, if the prices on the exchange are correct I will end up with much better coverage for about $30 more per month.

Rochard...how many insurance plans don't cover hospitalization? What tiny percentage of plans didn't?

The people losing their healthcare plans had great plans for the most part.

I was talking to my brother today...his wife is a dental assistant. He works for himself as a very successful fishing captain down in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The dentist told his wife that he is dropping the insurance for all his employees. ObamaCare made it too expensive.

So now she is going to have to find other insurance.

My brother and his son had a separate health insurance policy since his wife had an employee benefit one.

But NOW, because of ObamaCare, he is going to have to drop the insurance for him and his son and get a family plan on the "Exchange".

And the plans available aren't as good as the ones they already had. AND they are going to cost him almost double what their family paid out before.

The reason? Because if she tries to get insured now...it's under ObamaCare. And it would be by herself as an individual. She makes "too much money" as a dental assistant and the cost is astronomical for their family.

And my brother can't add her to his family plan because then it is no longer "grandfathered"

So the only option they have is to all go on the "Exchange" as a family. And it's going to double the cost of what they have had to pay out monthly...and all 3 of them will have less coverage than before.

That is the kind of shit that is happening to families across the country.

EDIT: And by the way....ObamaCare requires EVERYBODY to carry maternity insurance. Even single men. Even 80 year old women. Even women who have had hysterectomies or are not fertile.
So you single guys out there...just realize that your new and "improved" health plan also requires you to pay extra for maternity insurance.
You know...in case any of you males get pregnant. lol

But as a republican, this is good. The dentist shouldn't be picking out the insurance for his employees. This is a huge plus for the USA in the long run. She didn't have cheap insurance before, the dentist was subsidizing her.

Thank you. People just dont know, myself included. I thought hospitalization in a insurance plan was a given. And found out I was wrong so these were piece of shit plans.
But it also shows this isnt socialism its capitalism. Obama has no control over their actions. Insurance companies pitched sick people for years no one gave a shit. ACA is trying to protect people from that and now the insurance companies are fucking him. Old balless should of pushed for a public option.

Very true and the reason they have nothing is obamacare is their plan created by the heritage foundation pushed by Dole against Hilary care. Newt hailed everyone having to buy insurance as personal responsibility.

They should work to make it better but when you get elected based on you will do nothing with the kenyan. You are painted into a corner.

You need to read it again, it's goal is to move past Obamacare in 2017.
It has a lot of holes in their plans as to how they will do it and leaves a lot of people in the cold. And has already spent $262 per person just for the exchange. How is this going to save money like Obama promised?

Plain and simple. Obama lied to get his agenda passed. He got all the democrats on board to get it passed with out any GOP. All the time lying to the American Public.

I have been against this since day one, why? I like the idea of universal healthcare. This bill was never read or understood by the ASSHOLES that supported it.

Nearly one-third of lifetime expenditures is incurred during middle age, and nearly half during the senior years. For survivors to age 85, more than one-third of their lifetime expenditures will accrue in their remaining years. ...

This is from one state's data, one insurer (Michigan, Michigan Blue Cross Blue Shield) and from 2004.

Maybe, closer to $450,000 would be a more current number. Doesn't seem to me that the new Obamacare costs are not that far from reality. There is a lot of "pork" in this new legal requirement.

So, a new tax and universal healthcare would be a more acceptable alternative?
We are on the roadmap to that anyway -- just a matter of time ...

Maybe, there should be another alternative: You have insurance or cash up front -- or you are left to die in the street.

obamacare sucks. but at least they are trying. repubs health care plan is called "fuck the poor"

Do you know that Many POOR can not get coverage under Obama Care?

It only helps the people get coverage that might have a couple extra hundred dollars a month, that brings a $500 plan down to $150-$200.

It also helps the people already paying for insurance to a little lower rates.

This Poor thing is the BIGGEST LIE Ever.

Wow get insurance, have something bad happen and still have a 30% bill, some of the MAX amounts are $12K or More. If they are POOR, they can not afford the $300 a month before ACA, they can Not afford the $12K they would be hit with.

I do not know how many states did not take the Federal Extension, Mine did not. So if you do not make up to a certain amount of money, you do NOT qualify. You are also not on any insurance like Medicaid.

BUT, if you still need something done, you can go to ANY Emergency Room and get service.

Difference is that he got congress, both sides to pass on going to war
Barry only got the dems to pass on this and as a result has divided the country so badly that we now have the Tea Party. All based on a bold face lie. I think Bush got bad intel. I think Barry just didn't give a shit what the law said, like Pelosi said, we'll see what's in it after we pass it. And Barry has yet to apologize for misleading the country

You know...in case any of you males get pregnant. lol

This is not rocket science. Some plans are going to change because of a new law.

The vast majority aren't "loosing their healthcare". Their plans are changing. This happens on any given year when healthcare providers change their plans every year. In the end it's kind of pointless; Healthcare costs rise every year.

Why is the dentist has to drop plans when my wife works for a doctor's office and our healthcare plans are expanding? According to my wife's boss, a foot doctor, it would be stupid for her not to offer all of us benefits - it would cost her more not to.

The problem is some of you are taking the changes that happen every year and now blaming them on Obamacare. Every year when having employer healthcare, we had to pick our our plan. In some cases, the plans we had no longer existed. This is a year thing, not really because of Obamacare.

Perhaps Reagan did in fact speak out against government healthcare in the 1980s. That was a long time ago; Healthcare wasn't even an issue on the radar thirty years ago. But now it's become a huge problem, and healthcare costs are completely out of control.

If Reagan president today, it's entirely possible he would be singing a different song today. Come to think of it, wasn't there a similar Republican healthcare bill before Obama came into office? So basically Reagan said it was bad, yet the Republicans wanted to do it anyhow.

They don't seem to have a plan. Or a plan b. Or another option. Or even a suggestion. Or a clue. Their entire line of attack is "defeat Obamacare". It's become a law, and it went all the way up to the Supreme court; The Republican party shut down the entire US government trying to defeat this and failed.

No matter what the Republicans look horrible here, and it's reflected by the lowest approval rating of Congress in my lifetime. Even if the Republican party was to defeat this, the end result was four to six years and billions dollars wasted, the Republicans looking bad for not doing it sooner, and still no healthcare plan.
