cat people

i am buying a kitten and I am wondering
1) what age can they get front claws taken out? I have a young child so it is a must so save me your speach about declawing
2) i want a fluffy cat - what am I looking for
3) can petsmart teach the fucker to piss in the litter box and not on my bed??

thnx

J. Falcon 07-04-2006 07:22 AM

Cats take care of themselves. That's all you need to know.

amandaspost 07-04-2006 09:12 AM

If you want fluffy go for a persian, but they shed like crazy

digga 07-04-2006 09:13 AM

yea, for some reason they just know to use the box. mine did. all i did was just plop his ass in it one day just to be safe.

cyberstar 07-04-2006 09:14 AM

it's probably better if you don't get one... save yourself and the "fucker" the aggravation

MandyBlake 07-04-2006 09:15 AM

lol you sound way too excited about this new kitty lol

I don't give a fuck if you do have a young child ... a kitten's claws don't need to be taken out ... you can have them clipped back. That's enough. I have plenty of experience with this situation and you're fussing about nothing. Taking a kittens claws out will stop it being able to protect itself and hold on to certain surfaces.

Sure, clip them, but don't abuse them by taking out their claws. How would you like it if your nails were removed because they got to long?

BoyAlley 07-04-2006 09:20 AM

If you can't have a cat without getting it declawed, then don't get a cat.

Find a pet that's more suited to your family without needing to be mutilated.

If you don't care that it's a cruel practice, you should care that you're more likely to have behavioral problems out of them.

Serge Litehead 07-04-2006 09:22 AM

fluffy persians are calm but not too friendly towards humans, i would not get one around a young child - not too dangerous but less fun for a kid. also persian fur coat requires too much maintenance.

Actually they don't just remove the nail, they amputate the last digit of their toes off.
:disgust

J. Falcon 07-04-2006 09:23 AM

How the hell is the cat supposed to defend itself against from other animals?

Yeah, well, exactly. .. some people fuck me off ... animals shouldn't be fucked with like that ...

Babagirls 07-04-2006 09:38 AM

calling a cat a "fucker" is usually a sign that you're not ready for a cat.

also, you dont need to declaw your cat. i trim my cats nails every 2 weeks and he's fine. he lays down and purrrs the whole time that im doing it, then i give him a nice brushing after im done as a reward (he loves a good brushing).

J. Falcon 07-04-2006 10:20 AM

He's coming to get you

what he said

do you also want to pull her teeth out so she can't bite?

declawing should be banned as it is animal cruelty

Spunky 07-04-2006 10:48 AM

My cat has never shredded anything but her own scratching posts..I think you're being way too drastic

minusonebit 07-04-2006 12:13 PM

I am OK with de-clawing cats: as long as the owner gets declawed first.

As has been said here before, you're fussing about nothing.

you don't need petsmart to train the cat.. it will practicly train itself. just keep picking it up and putting it back in the litter box..

I once had a neihbor that taught their cat to use a toilet. It just couldn't flush.

I won't go into the whole clawing debate, but I'll just say that we had two cats when my son was younger and we never had a problem with them having their claws. It's your decision though.

You will need to get its nuts chopped. otherwise when it gets older it will start pissing on things...

Also don't forgot to buy a laser pointer. You can then play with the cat from the couch without expending any effort. and its damn amusing watching the furball chase a laser around the room.

tical 07-04-2006 01:24 PM

you want a fucking awesome cat? get a siberian

so loving, like a dog... will wake up and follow you if you leave the room, sit and watch you take a dump, be waiting by the door when you get home, plays fetch, they make strange chirping noises when they purr, jump REAL high, and best of all are HYPOALLERGENIC... i love my cat

here's a link to a vid i made of him fetching its a little dark http://jenna.525i.net/MOV00991.MPG

seriously they do, you just need to feed them :1orglaugh

Scott McD 07-04-2006 04:39 PM

Yeah i don't think a cat is a good idea for you by the sounds of it...

Bdiddy 07-04-2006 04:43 PM

I had cats growing up and the only time it ever clawed me as a young child was when i deserved it...it'll teach your kid life lessons

Platinumpimp 07-04-2006 04:49 PM

Don't get a cat. A cat needs its claws. And I agree with the rest, it definately is animal cruelty, but you probably don't give a fuck if you talk about declawing like it's like getting a bread. :2 cents:

E$_manager 07-04-2006 04:56 PM

i am an expert! I have two taken from the age of 1,5 months.
the first was crying for his mom so we litterally didn't sleep for 2 nights untill he understood that we are his parents.
Cats know about the toilet before their birth so you only have to show it. It must be feeld with special cat toilet so that he could dig in it.

J. Falcon 07-04-2006 05:00 PM

Don't get a cat.

If I knew of a vet who did this I would take his teeth out, see how he likes it.

DigitalPimp 07-04-2006 05:07 PM

if you must get a cat, please just clip the cats nails occasionally. I just do the front ones and it takes less than 1 minute.

Big John 07-04-2006 05:12 PM

Why the fuck would anyone 'de-claw' a cat? To be honest I've never heard of it before. It's simply too pointless and barbaric for people to do here.

We had 3 cats when my little girl was born. She's now three and unfortunately we lost a cat but guess what? They all have claws and have never scratched our child and there's no reason they ever should.

For fucks sake don't get a pet until/unless you stop being such a total, clueless idiot.

I've never heard of it either.

Is that shit allowed?

LauLau 07-04-2006 05:24 PM

"Getting" a cat is accepting a new member in the family. Cats are soooooooooooooooooooooooo cute and loving, and they are VERY good friends; but cats are special and even each cat is special. If you are thinking about shaping a cat to suit your needs, I don't think you are on the way. Get a dog. But if you are able to SHARE with a different animal, ACCEPTING and being accepted, you and your family will develop important values in life.

... Honestly, it will be harder in some months when you'll ask wether to castrate your cat or not :S

Good luck and remember to always respect everyone and everything! :)

DigitalPimp 07-04-2006 05:30 PM

It is illegal in some countries but legal in the US. A site for additional info is http://www.declawing.com
