Canadians: Who will you be voting for?

More importantly - WHY are you voting for who you are?
And don't give me that "I don't vote" bullshit, I hate that.

bashbug 11-08-2005 01:34 AM

i usally vote liberal. but if i dont, i have to think, harper is a nazi. so either way i am fucked.

MetroPornTour 11-08-2005 01:57 AM

Well lets see the choices...

1) George Bush's "Mini me"... Stephen Harper
2) The "just doesn't get it and forever stuck in Jean Chretien's shadow"... Paul Martin
3) Man that needs a new blue shirt... Gilles Duceppe
4) Leader of the "we will never win party."...Jack Layton

Boy a real bunch of winners here.
Well lets see...

If I vote Bloc Quebecois, they will never form the goverment because they are only in Quebec.

If I vote N.D.P I might as well not vote because they will still come in last.

If I vote for the conservatives, I might as well take my Canadian flag down and slap lube on my ass for the American fuck over he will give. (Man is like Mulroney on roids)

So I suppose that means I can only vote for the Liberals. It's kind of like voting for the "Same old.. Same old". You know what to expect from them and Canada won't be suddenly joining the war on terror. It will be just a goverment that slips by with nothing special to write home about.

sh33p 11-08-2005 02:12 AM

Might as well vote NDP. Piss on the Libz, Cambodians and the French.

flashfire 11-08-2005 03:16 AM

So not at this moment but we are on the way.

The Sultan Of Smut 11-08-2005 05:01 AM

I'll probably vote NDP. Why? Why not. I don't like the Liberals because of Cretien. I did like the Canadian Alliance but don't like the Canadian Conservatives. Oh ya I forgot about the Green Party. Maybe I'll vote for them.

Paul Waters 11-08-2005 05:07 AM

I will go to the polling station and decline my ballot.

There will not be an election until spring.

Martin will send parliament into recess until February.

Doctor Dre 11-08-2005 05:14 AM

I'm generally blue for the provincial ... if the liberals are sure to win, I'l vote blue too. The liberal party needs a good oposition. If it's tight, I'l vote liberal, because I vigure there cannot be a better party in power right now ... as well as a better and more qualified prime minister then Paul Martin.

Our economy is just great right now... I want it to stay like that.

Doctor Dre 11-08-2005 05:15 AM

There isn't a sign of an upcomming election soon btw ... The liberal gov knows it and they are starting to apply power and act like they were a normal gov ... This will slowly force the election, but it probably won't happen till spring

Everyone vote NDP
liberals and conservatives have had many chances at bat and always screw up
before the liberals got in the conservatives were screwing it all up. now the liberals are all screwed up
NDP has never been in federal power so maybe they won't screw up at least not for awhile.
It doesn't matter what party you vote for they are all the same in the end, they all fuck up.

The Bloc - I dont think so
Green - What ?
Layton - Is getting my vote because I want them to hold balance of power with liberals.

The economy is doing good .... I think more people will vote liberals this time ?

I agree, Harper is definitely a mini GWB, Layton wants to give all the money to the poor so we can have huge deficits again, Duceppe is a separatist.

I think the liberals did a pretty good job overall. Sure, 100 millions got wasted or stolen, but the liberals cleaned up the budget, paid down $63 billion in debt (saving us billions / year in interests that we can now use to lower taxes or waste on social crap), they lowered the taxes for both individuals and businesses, which means that Canada now has a 5% tax advantage compared to the US for businesses, etc etc.

Martin might be dumb and wants everyone to love him, but he's a business man, he was a great finance minister and he's a good reason why we're paying less taxes today and we're the only G8 country with 8 straight years of surpluses (soon to be 9).

Remember how far they have come since 1993 and the mess the conservatives left them with.

Debt in 1997: $562.9 Billion (interest payments: $45 billion / year)
Debt in 2005: $499.9 Billion (interest payments: $34.1 billion / year)

Deficit in 1992:close to $50 Billion
Surplus in 2005: $1.6 billion

As long as they don't make more social spending deals and keep lowering taxes while staying in budgetary surpluses, I think the liberals must stay in office.

Wiggles 11-08-2005 06:49 AM

I vote Liberal just so Harper doesn't have a chance.

That fairly much sums up my sentiments. Can't embellish on it any more.

One thing I'll never understand - is how people say we have "a surplus". The principle amount of the national debt is still owed. All we've done is brought it down to where we have a little money left over after the interest on the principle is paid.

Its like having a $1000 Visa bill, making the minimum monthly payment, and having a bit left over for some Kraft Dinner.

I agree Martin's a good finance minister and he's done a good job with the federal purse strings, but saying Canada has a surplus makes it all sound more optimistic than it actually is. The country as a whole is still in debt up to its eyeballs.

Personally I say Martin.. he's been cleaning up everyone else's messes and doing a decent job, for someone who wasn't really prepared for the position. He's done quite a few things that have impressed me.

A budgetary surplus is different from debt or savings.

if your monthly income is $3000 and you spend $2000, you have a monthly surplus of $1000. However, you may have a mortgage for $100,000, which means you have a debt.

In the mid-1990s, Canada?s ratio of total government net financial liabilities to GDP was the second highest in the G-7. By 2003 Canada had the lowest ratio in the G-7.

Since its peak in 1995, Canada?s ratio of total government net financial liabilities to GDP is estimated to have been reduced by 38.2 percentage points to 31.1 per cent of GDP in 2004, which was again the lowest in the G-7.

so we're not doing so bad :) we just have to keep it up and prevent morons like Harper from taking over and turning record surpluses into record deficits.

Economics was not your forte ...

We have a surplus because our operating expenses are lower than our income, resulting in money left over ....

A company can declare profits, it doesn't mean they do not have debt.

Now, in your simplistic example, if the person didn't have a surplus, she couldn't make the minimum payment, hence her debt would grow ...

Simple no ?

BTW, in Quebec, we can vote Block... which I will. If I was in Canada ( lol ...) I would vote NDP to get themm to hold the balance of power. :2 cents:

TheLegacy 11-08-2005 08:41 AM

green party.

I know they wont win, but at least my conscience will be clear that I didnt vote for the Liberals, Conservatives or NDP none of whom can be trusted.

If I could, I wish there was a http://www.monarchist.ca/new/index.html on the ballot.

Shaft_1971 11-08-2005 08:42 AM

The choices are so fucking bad. I hate the Libs - Cons and I really hate Jack. But if I had to vote I would go with Jack, to keep things in the minority.

ronaldo 11-08-2005 08:53 AM

Ultimately, we have a choice between Paul Martin and Stephen Harper. A vote on the NDP is a waste because they'll never get in, and will actually take votes away from Paul Martin. Best case is this scenario is we re-elect ANOTHER Liberal minority and have another election a year down the road.

Since Stephen Harper has already made it clear with his Press Release "Error" over a year ago where he stands on internet porn (it's ALL CP remember), and we've all seen what can happen with someone of his ilk in power south of the border, I'll be voting for Paul Martin...and convincing as many people as I can to do the same.

I had been a conservative for years, but was swayed to the Liberals a few years ago, but still NEVER like Jean Chretien. I had a clear conscience last time I voted for Martin, and I'll have a clear conscience when I vote this time around.

ColBigBalls 11-08-2005 08:57 AM

Lib. The whole money controversy is well, c?mon what gov doesn?t scam money. Our economy is strong, we have public health care (Can always be better), social liberties, great world opinion. And as others have posted, the liberals may not be great, but there doing ok and really what other choice is there

my :2 cents:

The NDP are socialist, in case none of you knew that. So let your friends know too. ;) Voting NDP is like voting to give your money to poor people. Not just that but have it badly mismanaged in HUGE government first.

Harper is a tool and the Conservatives are an amalgamation of the Reform and Canadian Alliance. The Reform isn't exactly level with everything Harper does. I doubt that party could govern.

Maybe I am biased, but I'll be voting Liberal. Media hogwash doesn't sway my vote.

PenisFace 11-08-2005 10:14 AM

Whoever we vote for, we're fucked. The liberals suck ass. And Harper tha nazi is just a republican that's infiltrated the Canadian political system.

Judging by the way our governments handle finances...I really have to wonder 'where have all the economics experts gone?

Maybe there's hope for me yet for a career in political economics. Just me, my abacus...and a swiss account to hide my embezzlement windfalls.
