WTF France only sends 100k Euros for tsunami?

Are you kidding me? That's hilarious. Such big mouths, with so little pockets.

100k euros right now = 136k us dollars.

Thats embarassing.

LOL

dunefield 12-29-2004 10:54 AM

that is tragic...

Chichio 12-29-2004 10:55 AM

And we're the stingy ones? The U.N. should be desolved and we should build a new international organization. Oh, and countries like Syria shouldn't get to be the chairman of the anti-terrorism committee and China shouldn't be able to head the human rights committee. :flagface

cold_ice 12-29-2004 10:56 AM

Does it surprise you?

Corleone 12-29-2004 10:57 AM

really? that would be a joke. I just read that germany will send 20 million + army

dropped9 12-29-2004 10:59 AM

Yes really

France was the first country to have a team on the ground...they began making fresh water for people immediately.

That will probably save alot of lives. :2 cents:

Screaming 12-29-2004 11:06 AM

hmmm well for such a hatred for the US, we certainly seem to be more willing to help a country in need

"FRANCE: Foreign Minister Michel Barnier in Sri Lanka, then Thailand. Has earmarked 100,000 euros for relief, sent 16 rescuers to Thailand, 10 tons aid to Sri Lanka"

yea 26 people and 100k big spenders they are...

Also WTF is with these other countries only sending 2 million? I mean sure 2 million is better than Frances measly 100k but common only 2 million from an entire country?

Shit Bill Gates will probably donate more money than that. Hell Amazon.com has raised almost 2 million in 2 days from their website and freaking entire countries can only send 2 million?

IMO Even the US is being a little skimpy as we have only pledged around 30 million but I know that will go up over the next few weeks. Then add the countless private donations will probably easily equal that number so we will more than be putting our fair share in.

But really WTF is with some of these other cheap ass govts?

Jensen 12-29-2004 11:35 AM

you call france stingy? yep, they should donate more, totally agree.. but:

"Measured another way, as a percentage of gross national product, the OECD's figures on development aid show that as of April, none of the world's richest countries donated even 1 percent of its gross national product. Norway was highest, at 0.92 percent; the United States was last, at 0.14 percent."

that is not for this tragedy, but still.. the United States was last!

you can give all the money in the world...that is nice and all...but what the average person living there is going to need..is clean drinking water.

it wil be the number one cause of death soon.

money is not a solution...it will go to the government not the people

what do you think is going to pay for the water and food needed? Much less the disposal of bodies and medical treatment for the living. Money is more important than water because with out money they will have no water.

Frank The Tank 12-29-2004 11:39 AM

im proud to say that ireland has donated the most amount of money to this cause 2 million .. and rightly so

I don't follow your logic.

the water is everywhere...and people are going to die of thirst soon..so they will start drinking the water...then they will die.

France sent in a team which has been purifying water non stop since they got there.

Water is life

The 100k ? was only for the victims in Thailand, and was released on Monday.
Today, the french government released 15 millions ?.

Still not enough, though.

You're right and I think the U.S. will give more as things progress. I'm not sure who it was I heard on the news but he made the point that if you donate all the money at once it may not end up being spread properly throughout all the countries effected.

That water is sea water it has salt in it.. add to that it's contaminated from oil, fuel and everything else that was washed away. Where do you think the disease will come from they are talking about? Contaminated water and food.

dude...i am really not following you now.

the water is all contaminated, it has dead bodies floating in it..you can not drink any of the water there....not even one sip.

Strong North americans can last about 7 days with no water...then they die.

Usually your body will force you to drink whatever water you find around the 4-5th day. You will not be able to help yourself.

Oh and sorry to burst your bubble..France just gave up anoter 15 million euros.

do all americans really hate france that much?

lol man that's what I was trying to say to you.. you said the water was everywhere (like they could just start drinking from puddles of water).. If you don't think the money is important how do you think they will buy fresh water and send it there with no money?

This has nothing to do with CNN and the cheap French govt.. :costumed-

they wont be buying Evian and sending it over...the water has to be made from what is there

so luckily for many of the survivors..france had a team of professionals on the ground and making clean water for them

Paco, of Large Cash. 12-29-2004 01:00 PM

What is more surprising is that you are taken by that ... I thought all GFYers knew France is run by some very bad people ... crooked as hell, big time liars and fucking greedy - Cretien and Mr.Martin are saints compared to Chirac.

By no means do I have a problems with the Parisians ... their view of life ROCKS -- it is the politicians I have issues with. (RE: Food for Oil scam.)

... and now, we do heroin!

You really think your team of 26 Frenchmen is going to get water to these thousands if not millions of people in need? The Red Cross and other organizations most certainly do ship containers of bottled water to these affected areas on a very large scale.

Shit even here in the US they shipped thousands and thousands of bottles of water here to central Florida after the hurricanes. Shit if we would have had the 26 Frenchmen here, they would saved the Red Cross millions.

I'm not going to argue with you all day.. so believe your 26 Frenchmen will make water for everyone that's cool.

Phoenix 12-29-2004 01:17 PM

Faye Wachs said she was impressed by the efforts of the Thai government and the International Committee for the Red Cross, but "she was appalled at the treatment they got" from the U.S. government, her mother said.

At the airport in Bangkok, other governments had set up booths to greet nationals who had been affected and to help repatriate them, she said.

That was not the case with the U.S. government, Wachs told her mother. It took the couple three hours, she said, to find the officials from the American consulate, who were in the VIP lounge.

Because they had lost all their possessions, including their documentation, they had to have new passports issued.

But the U.S. officials demanded payment to take the passport pictures, Helen Wachs said.

The couple had managed to hold on to their ATM card, so they paid for the photos and helped other Americans who did not have any money get their pictures taken and buy food, Helen Wachs said.

"She was really very surprised" that the government did so little to ease their ordeal, she said.

See my point was not to bash the US..but that is how you perceive it.

Actually if you read my post on the subject I said all the countries should donate more I even said the US should donate more as I don't think 30 mil is really enough.
