No trials and volume pricing???

We are seriously considering eliminating 3 day trials. If a surfer wants a trial, he should just take a look at all our hosted galleries at http://www.barely19.com --- they know what they will get inside the members area.

Also, now that we have 30 sites, we are experimenting with volume pricing -- with discounts given for joining more than one site, like this:

1) 19.95 one site monthly ($20.00 each)
2) 24.95 two sites monthly ($12.50 each)
3) 29.95 three sites monthly ($10.00 each)
4) 34.95 five sites monthly ($7.00 each)
5) 39.95 10 sites monthly ($4.00 each)

Please discuss, I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

Nice! Biggie size your porn!

pornstar2pac 03-25-2004 06:51 PM

just make them all $9.99 each a month.

No breaks, no cuts, just $9,99 a month.

Paul -C- 03-25-2004 06:51 PM

It's an interesting idea!

WiredGuy 03-25-2004 06:53 PM

I wouldn't eliminate a trial entirely since it does rather well on exits. Remember a surfer may have visited your site from one of your sites and has no idea about barely19. If anything, consider putting it as a last exit to entice the surfer but don't eliminate trials outright.

i agree that the idea is nice but...

Notice the average price would be $10/site -- but wouldn't you rather lock in 3 sales at once if you could?

Paparazzi 03-25-2004 06:59 PM

Make it 29.95/month for access to ALL sites...members will stay forever :Graucho
and keep the 3 day trial :2 cents:

Yup, getting that commitment would be a good thing:2 cents:

SteveLightspeed 03-25-2004 07:01 PM

Btw, I failed to mention that they could re-select their sites after each rebill, to add even more to the retention.

Very interesting idea....especially giving the member the ability to mix different sites into the bag at rebill :)

However, WG's made a good point here. That join option may work best with traffic coming in via TGPs, but might not convert as well on other sources of traffic where surfers don't have the benefit of seeing the full line up via the hosted galleries.

grumpy 03-25-2004 07:06 PM

i charge 49.99 a month. No prob, they still pay and my chargebacks whent down :-)

TinaBallina 03-25-2004 07:06 PM

Hmmm, it is a nice thought, Charles however does know what he is talking about so I would consider his thoughts too.

You're thinking Steve, you're thinking my friend.............xo

so we mention on the join page, "need to see more samples before deciding?" and send them over to barely19

JFK 03-25-2004 07:16 PM

Will you be having this on the join page as well ?

1) 19.95 one site monthly ($20.00 each)
2) 24.95 two sites monthly ($12.50 each)
3) 29.95 three sites monthly ($10.00 each)
4) 34.95 five sites monthly ($7.00 each)
5) 39.95 10 sites monthly ($4.00 each)

perhaps insert "for Only" $ 12.50 each make is sound more like a bargain:2 cents:

SteveLightspeed 03-25-2004 07:27 PM

of course, just like Costco makes you think its a great idea to buy five gallons of vegetable oil, or 200 pounds of dogfood, or 50 rolls of toilet paper....

My problem with trials is people come back time and time again, just for the most recent updates.

I'd love to say "sorry buddy, you HAD a trial!"

Nobody Specific 03-25-2004 07:40 PM

I think those prices are reasonable for amateur sites. On our own sites, we used to not offer trials at all. Catch em for a full month and they should stay to see the next update, am sites have a lot more personality than others.

Oracle Porn 03-25-2004 07:42 PM

no trials on revshare programs is the best!
40 bux for 10 sites is kinda expensive for my opinion....

ohh and trials should only be on exit....if he is not interested atleast I can make $2 from him via trial.

If $40 is too expensive, that's where the other price points might pick up some extra sales, right? I think that volume pricing is something that most average consumers understand pretty well.

you can't track their CC number? IP? I know I can't even do test signups with SPP because they know my CC number.

Ray@TastyDollars 03-25-2004 07:51 PM

Give trial members limited access. Conversions to full will go up min. 10%.

peace

3rd party billers don't pass thru the cc number to anyone

See that would be ideal. Have a script or something that basically says we are glad to you as a member but our records indicate that you already took advantage of our trial membership. As per our terms we allow one trial per site per person. Or something like that. Or offer them a monthly rate at a return visitor discount or something.

The logistics of this would be tricky but could be great.

Hi,

I would agree with shit canning the trials... As for the lowering of pricing.... Call it what you want... But it comes down to lowering prices... I feel that only say one thing to the consumers, Hay this is what our product is worth! If I was looking to join a paysite, I wouldn't join one offering a big discount like that. If I was going to take that step up to paying for porn, I would opt for a site that offered exclusive content and a lot of up dates. IMHO all these kind of Deals will only push the paysite end of the industry into the same boat the content providers got them selfs into by cutting prices... Is there knowone in this business that wants to make money?

Jay_StandAhead 03-25-2004 07:53 PM

I like this idea. In the long run it would probably make your webmasters more money.

If you had a 60% trial conversion ratio, that'd be another story :)

BAD idea. This will just piss them off and cancel right away...

The idea is nice, and it may work.. I would try it on a lesser site for a short while and see if it works out though.

Na, it makes conversions go up 10% at least and saves you on bw cost of leaching trial members.

studio 03-25-2004 08:02 PM

Hay I know...

Make the regular subscription 3 months at 59.95 and the One month trial sub. 29.95

No that is an Idea...

WG, I think you've hit the nail on the head!! Steve, I agree with Charles, keep the trials on the exits.

As for volume pricing, I think the Costco example works, give value to the masses!! Its a great way to turn a $29 sale into a $39 sale.

Steve, this is an excellent, thought provoking thread and makes people stop and think through a big issue in today's biz.

Its really not that difficult at all, you have numerous other info available to track them on. cookies, email, address, phone etc. You will find that most people surf from the same machine and are too dumb to delete their cookies ever. If they get past that you can test them on email address, address, phone etc. Obviously this can be defeated but the number of people that actually go to the effort will be very few.

we killed trials a couple weeks ago and it was the best thing i ever did

Paparazzi 03-25-2004 08:09 PM

I once saw a really hot girl and I wanted to see more of her so I decided to take a trial on the site. Didn't get to see her because of that bullshit limited accesss... Just got pissed off and canceled the trial within 5min.

I'm pretty sure Jettis blocks people after they buy trials. Not sure how long, 30 days, 60 days?
