Someone will come up with an idea to monetize it :)

Agent 488 02-17-2009 10:09 AM

Martin 02-17-2009 10:12 AM

Yeah, I'm going to read 5 pages on this dork.

Tom_PM 02-17-2009 10:15 AM

A 5 page article? I'm not up for that, lmao.

Paper_Amar 02-17-2009 10:15 AM

4chan.org, PR6

why, sell hardlinks of course!

Mutt 02-17-2009 10:27 AM

very interesting article only in that it reveals who is behind 4chan - a very uninteresting quiet 21 year old. the kid needs to find himself a partner who is more entrepeurnially minded than him - there has to be a way to make money off that site. all those 4chan surfers go to movies, play video games, eat fast food, etc - he's got to sell some major corporations on that and sell some adspace.

same with facebook - i look at the crappy ads on it - Hollywood movie studios and record companies, beverage makers, etc should be paying millions for prime facebook advertising space. all i see on facebook are some crappy Google type ads on the side - that probably have a microscopic click rate.

Theres a huge difference between facebook users and 4chan users... 4chan users are internet savvy and don't click ads, facebook actually has people who don't do anything online besides facebook so they see an ad that catches their eyes, they don't know it's not for them specificly.

He's currently $20,000 in debt, living with his mom and pouring money and hours into the dark heart of the Internet.

Reak AGV 02-17-2009 10:32 AM

I'm not in the mood to read a 5 page article about this kid.

grumpy 02-17-2009 10:34 AM

4chan.com is for sale

He is in debt because of school, etc.

1 hardlink on a PR6 site = $200/month

20 hardlinks = $4k

pornguy 02-17-2009 10:37 AM

He built the wrong sort of board.

Actually, no, he didn't. He's just a complete idiot when it comes to monetizing.

He could make money hand over fist with that site, but since he doesn't like taking advice, it's not going to happen.

RRRED 02-17-2009 11:10 AM

Shit, I'd sell ad space for him on the side. Difficult maybe, but not impossible. There's no reason he should be in debt.

If anything he can just come up with a gimicky site like lolcatz and make as much money as the icanhazcheezburger site.

Eh, I dunno, seems like it would be easy, I could be wrong. The guy is a fussy stubborn idiot.

CaptainHowdy 02-17-2009 11:14 AM

Sounds like something that could easily happen to me...

tranza 02-17-2009 11:17 AM

Damn, this is bad. :(

TeenCat 02-17-2009 11:19 AM

4chan ... lol ... what an idea ... based on japanese futaba/chan boards, used in private communities for everything whats illegal, he only used known name and used it for legal purposes on own servers ... this guy is lame and dont know what he have, by mistake, in his hands :2 cents:

Any company that does branding would buy those ads they don't expect you to click they expect you to see their product placement on the page and when your at a store you but buy their "Bawls Cola" or you might check out "Friday the 13th" this week when you go to the movies. You saw the ad for it on Myspace 6 times when checking your profile page this afternoon.

Traditional marketing in print and billboards and such are branding, they don't have a click here to check out more about me links on them there is now I got 1 in 200 ratio off that billboard on hwy 5.

So with that said there are plenty of people that will buy the impressions they get not the clicks

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 02-17-2009 11:24 AM

And he makes hardly any cash?

CIVMatt 02-17-2009 11:36 AM

It's amazing how few people here can't understand WHY their aff and sleep creep ads arn't paying the bills

The problem here, what if I took a screen shot with Bawls ad and under it CP, then under that, talking about rape, then under that something else. They would drop the ads VERY fast because they are "supporting bad things.

WarChild 02-17-2009 11:41 AM

Hey Davey Jones, I guess you can add another line to your catch phrase, eh?

"ANONYMOUS NEVER PROFITS!"

I for one am completely shocked.

well.. if it is a fact that no mainstream sponsor will touch it then there is only one logic course of action don't u think? I mean.. .I wouldn't keep a high traffic tube site if there was no way to monetize it and if it was only burning me traffic!

BTW.. I highly doubt no sponsor will touch 4chan m8.. seriously.. think of redtube.com, mininova.org and such... they are worse business models and they all found sponsors... If that was my site I would slap some friend finder ads (who are not the most ethical guys) in there and see what happens....

GrouchyAdmin 02-17-2009 11:50 AM

It's nice that he created a place for all of the wapanese pedophiles to hang out. Makes it easier for the FBI, and all.

I know how mainstream advertising works :thumbsup

wjxxx 02-17-2009 12:22 PM

I`m shocked. Site with 1M uniques a day and no money ?

mynameisjim 02-17-2009 12:22 PM

But with 4chan it's a little different. The wild uncontrolled nature of the content posted there will keep 99% of advertisers away. McDonalds doesn't want their ad showing up next to scat pictures or barely legal self shot pics. Also, that bunch is so finicky that if they happen to not like your ad for whatever reason, there's a good chance they can start a campaign to turn your product into a big joke. With so many other sites, I don't know if it's worth the risk.

woj 02-17-2009 12:34 PM

Someone should just buy it off him, offer him 1M, I'm sure he would sell it... since it's such a great site should be able to make that back within 3 months... oh, but wait, I wonder why no one does that, could it be because the traffic is complete shit?

If the traffic was any good, I'm sure people would be harassing him all the time begging him to sell 10k/month ad spots on the site... I guess he could just be stubborn, not wanting to sell ads on it, but I doubt he would turn down 10k/month for an adspot..

I agree, never understood why he didn't utilize that tactic. For a site of that has a ton of quality backlinks and is a PR6, $200/month might actually be undervaluing the site.

I can think of a ton of porn and gambling sites that would easily pay for a link on that site.
