I can't believe there is an ad for xites.com on this board

This will steal your traffic. This should especially be a concern with all sponsors who host galleries. You are going to be paying for the bandwith but will see no sales because when a surfer clicks a banner on your gallery, they will go to a sponsor of my choice. That is a fact!

JamesK 11-04-2002 07:49 AM

true.

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 07:53 AM

Oh, and any gallery submitters should be very aware about which tgp sites use this, because you will pay for all the bandwith but when the surfer clicks any recip link, text link or banner, they will go to the tgp owners sponsor and not yours!!

Tested and proven!

http://xq1.net/i?sssid=30&h=www.gres...il/e101235.htm

Hit that gallery and notice the banner at the top of the page is not theirs, click their sponsor and notice that you are going to the wetlands, not their sponsor!

gothweb 11-04-2002 07:56 AM

MMMmmmmm.... Cheatware!

Martin 11-04-2002 07:57 AM

It's all about the $$

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 08:01 AM

I'm just surprised they are allowed to buy a banner on top of this board because Adult.com has just as much to lose with this thing. Maybe they really haven't looked into what it is or is capable of.

-TIP
Make sure you have your htaccess to not allow hotlinking of your pics, this will at least make your page load with all broken images plus dissallow referrer xq1.net

MichaelH 11-04-2002 08:09 AM

Isn't that sort of programm completely illegal ? There must be something like a Coding and Authoring theft , right ???

RockDaddy, is xq1.net the only domain to block? I might believe that there's more!

Shouldn't we all take some action against this ??????

MichaelH 11-04-2002 08:11 AM

If any form of sponsor program supports THAT! They should go all on somekind of blacklist! That's a total rip off!

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 08:14 AM

Well there was a thread started by Serge about this which got sidetracked and this actual program wasn't discussed much, which was ok with me, I thought it would just die out but when I saw an ad on top of this board for it, I thought it need to be talked about a little more, especially if it's going to be a mainstream thing.

That's the only referring url I know about so far. All links start with that right now, could change later.

So far as "illegal", from what was posted on the other thread, doesn't seem like it is. That's what Google does when it "caches" your pages as well as some other sites.

If there were to be any chance of stopping it, I would think that the large sponsors who host galleries and stand to be financially hit by this thing would have the best chance of doing something.

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 08:16 AM

I don't know how any sponsor KNOWINGLY would sponsor that because of what it does. They (especially sponsors that host galleries) stand to lose from it also.

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 08:20 AM

Here's an adultplatinum hosted gallery

http://xq1.net/i?sssid=30&h=cheer.gallerygenerator.com/

Adult Platinum won't make a penny off that gallery!
Just paying the bandwith, that's all

MichaelH 11-04-2002 08:32 AM

I think with the platinum gallery above. We can at LEAST talk about copyright infrigement. And i believe there's some serious code and authoring theft law against this type of programs as well...

Maybe some others can confirm that.

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 08:39 AM

Just to show how far this can go, what if someone started sending all their exit traffic somewhere, like..
http://xq1.net/i?sssid=30&h=thehun.net/

It's set to go to the sponsor after 1 domain right now, but that could be changed to 3, 5 or whatever number you wish.

Now you are stealing The Huns traffic and his submitters traffic. Even if you don't have it redirect to your sponsor, you would be displaying your banner on each and every page the surfer visited. If they bookmarked that url, well, you can see what would happen.

MichaelH 11-04-2002 09:09 AM

Yep! This company is only calling for HUGE troubles!!!
Way to go cheaters and rippers! :feels-hot

Other than the fact that google doesn't change links to your sponsors they just cache your site for speed. And they don't cache your graphics, just the html. Big differance !!

fuck all that.

money is nothing compared to will.

Sambuka 11-04-2002 10:13 AM

Wow, didn't realize this software was so powerful, scary stuff. I just tested it on my site and if they bookmark my site while there inside this xites thing when the return to the bookmark they jump straight back into it again. Thats a nice way of trading traffic and keeping your traffic at the same time. I mean bad way. :)

That was not exactly a statement.
Have you guys ever heard of "sarcasm"? I guess not.

I think Adult.com should check the sites they are going to do business with, but I am not in charge of their business policies.

Read above post.

I guess I need to have a disclaimer in every post that contains "sarcasm" because not even a ";-)" sign works.

I like people with principles, they are hard to find these days.
Anyway, hopefully Lensman has taken action after reading this thread.

Exactly. I said this the other day.

I wonder how many newbies and assholes are already planning on implementing that system, just because of this fucking banner.

boldy 11-04-2002 11:14 AM

2 words img src or 1 word iframe

RockDaddy 11-04-2002 11:25 AM

One word of caution/wisdom for people planning on using that program. If you are using to to "cheat" other people then don't be surprised when the program "cheats" you. Since your links go through their site, it would be no problem to shave you hard or completely at odd times of the day, etc.. Afterall, it's a "free" program and we all know there's no such thing as "free".

Cheated by the cheating program... I believe that's what is known as "Situational Irony" :)

FUCK THAT. Its not adult.com's job to be the watchdog for the entire freaking internet, this stuff is going to get around with or without them taking a paid placement for it, if they don't pay him, then they just goto all the boards and spam spam spam, and then within a few days everyone is bitching about xites and how there program is so so bad and everyone will have a link in the message showing exactly where to get it. infact I never looked at the banners at the top I ignore them but when someone started a message board subject on it and came and read it, as did 1000's of others. So your infact helping to tell people about it more than Adult.com's little banner at the top that most people ignore.

So with or without Adult.com advertising it they will of got there product out there for everyone to see.

I don't support there product, but they sure came up with a idea nobody has done before. And i'm sure they will make some good money if there ass isn't sued off the face of this planet.

I can't see why anyone would bother suing them, no money in it, and they can block there server IP pretty easy.

Actually, um... yes it is. GFY doesn't necessarily need that money, they can get it elsewhere.

We're talking principal here. Let me guess, you don't have any principles?

Fletch XXX 11-04-2002 11:32 AM

:NopeNope

Nice thinking.

They run *your hits through *their site.

Easily redirected to their needs.

Umm.....sorry...no. This isn't an original idea. :)

http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.google.com/ does (very roughly) the same thing. And so do many other proxies.

Actually, burying your head in the sand like an ostrich won't solve the problem. It has to brought to everyones attention exactly what it can do. In fact, in most issues you have to really learn how a system can be exploited before you can begin to come up with solutions.

I partly agree about adult.com is not the internet police, just not sure if they fully understand how this can actually be detrimental to them as well (example above with their hosted gallery) and a short time financial gain can turn into a bigger long term loss.

I have already though of dozens of ways to utilize this program to my benefit at the cost of others and I'm sure many are already doing so. You're right, it's not going to go away, so the more you know about it, the better off you are.

RMG 11-04-2002 03:30 PM

hmmmmmmmm

kevinl 11-05-2002 02:12 AM

Couldn't you use it to redirect after a certain number of clicks on a thumbnail. Seem like a great way to redirect galleries after they are reviewed.
I'll bet 2003 is going to be unbelievable with this and spyware that floats their banners above your ads. Being a free webmaster is fixing to be a tough way to make a buck.
We need to start a site and or list that tracks sponsors that support this kind of stuff.
