BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED
Fri Sep 05 2008 08:55:46 ET

Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!

Oprah's staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

"Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama."

One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech.

Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.

Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment.

Developing...

What does any of this have to do with black or white?

I wouldn't have a prolife, hypocrite on my show either.. if it's something I didn't want to do.

It has zero to do with black and white.. and has to do with her fucked up stance on issues.

sortie 09-05-2008 10:20 AM

For a second there, I almost thought there was something of use in this thread. My bad.

'Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over,' Winfrey says in statement.

OPRAH'S STATEMENT: "The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over." - http://www.drudgereport.com/flash3os.htm

No agenda there I guess. At least she doesn't try to hide it.

I would think her sponsors would be pissed considering her speech at the RNC had 2 million more viewers than Obama's.

Honestly, I think Oprah would make a better president than either of the current candidates. No one's going to buy her because that bitch has more money than god.

Do you really believe that Palin has the kind of pull on tv that Obama has.

That "show" is a business you know.

And how do you give a "fair" interview without ripping into Palin about promoting
abstinence as the only sex education and it failed on her own daughter.

Not really that good of an idea for Oprah, she either has to ignore all the negative
buzz during the interview and look like a phony or bring the issues up and look like
an attacker.

You also probably should remember that Ophra's show is in Chicago!
She knew about Obama for a long time. He's an illinois senator.
Good local promo for Oprah to have Obama on but I don't think she
is going to sweat all those billions of Alaska viewers. :1orglaugh

Chicago city population is about five times larger than the entire state of Alaska.

BTW : I'm sick of Ophrah too. But I don't make stuff up to make my point.

Yes she does. Her speech viewership at RNC was just over a million shy of Obama's.

http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/...ratings-spike/

Palin was watched by 37.2 million viewers, Obama 38 million.

People tuned in that night to listen to multiple speakers and to see
McCain accept the nomination.

Saying Palin drew in those viewers is like the opening card of a Tyson fight
claiming he drew the huge crowd.

She rode the crowd, she didn't draw it.

Jman 09-05-2008 11:12 AM

it's her show and she can do what ever she wants.

And I really don't think Oprah is going anywhere with the amount of supporters she's got.

But hey it is GFY and you guys love to bitch about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING at the same time.

She was the sole reason in drawing the crowd. It's the very reason that she was selected as VP. Her speech was a historic event and that's why it was watched by so many.

uno 09-05-2008 11:15 AM

McCain didn't accept the nomination that night. Palin was the main speaker for that evening.
