Mac or PC?

Do you use a Mac or PC and why?

If you're a PC user would you consider switching to a Mac?

Is Vista basically the same thing as a Mac now that both systems use an Intel chipset?

What do you think?

Violetta 12-07-2007 02:20 PM

I use pc, and I will not switch to mac. Not in the near future at least. Ubuntu maby. But right now I am using all these good free programs, that I know for sure I wont find on a mac.

Gianna_CECash 12-07-2007 02:25 PM

I am in the market for a new puter... I was thinking about MAC

tranza 12-07-2007 02:27 PM

PC over here... I've never used a Mac actually!!

JoeS 12-07-2007 02:28 PM

I'm looking at getting either the iMac 20" or the 24". Someone told me Vista is basically the same as the Mac OS. But so far Im pretty impressed with what I see of Leopard the new Mac OS.

Hi Bob! Which Mac do you use? What type of work do you use it for?

D 12-07-2007 02:36 PM

PC user here...

My last laptop purchase might had been a MacBook Pro had I not realized that I could buy a machine with the same specs for about 1/3 - 2/3 the price... and not be forced to buy all of my hardware and software upgrades through the same company after doing so.

So I opted for a HP instead, and am very happy that I did.

CarolCox 12-07-2007 02:39 PM

We use both PC's and Mac's. I personally use a 20" iMac, and we have a new loaded iMac 24 just for video editing. In our home office, we have 3 PC's running XP, 2000 and Vista; 2 Mac's, one with Tiger and one with Leopard; and one Linux box.

u-Bob 12-07-2007 02:46 PM

Common missperception. There are plenty of places you can buy upgrades from that meet apple standards for less money. Also a good way to save 500 or more is to buy a mac with 512 ram and upgrade using newegg to 4 gigs for only 190 or so.

I have a MacBook pro. Ran redhat, ubuntu, vista and XP and I will never use anything but mac again for a desktop or laptop.

FYI there is lots of free programs and you can run anything that is gpl for linux as most has ben ported for Mac.

I am a PC user who recently (1 year ago) got a Mac, I am now in the process of transfering all my computers to Mac.

Actually all new Mac's are PC's. So the question should be: "Mac OS X or Windows?"

WebairGerard 12-07-2007 03:04 PM

I really like leopard. i still use XP as well but prefer my mac.

Yeah thats what I was told. But theres got to be more that makes a Mac unique than the OS?

Anyway a iMac 20" for $1200 is pretty affordable and Leopard seems very cool inded. I have yet to try Vista. Heard a lot of negativity about it though.

Any company that has to have its marketing campaign make fun of the competitor doesn't have my vote! Welcome to the third grade - population Apple. PC for me! :thumbsup

Hi Nick, EvilAngel rocks!

Yeah I'm with ya! Commercials are retarded. But they just have a 3% or so market share so they're desparate. I found so many Mac people I talked to were MacFanatics who talked down their nose to me like anyone who wasn't in their little club was sub human. That more than other things kept me from even looking at buying a Mac. But I have to look at what serves my needs and ignore peoples childish behavior because there are plenty of people and copanies out there with lots of growing up to do. So if the Mac OS and solid support fills a need then it's worth looking at I figure.

KILL_FRENZY 12-07-2007 03:18 PM

I use pc now but as soon as possible I will switch to mac

the fact that they put everything in a nice white (or silverish) box and charge way too much money for it.

Gerco 12-07-2007 03:19 PM

Written about this many times already on this forum. I was a devout PC user until 2 years ago when I bought my first MAC, a 17 Macbook Pro. Maxed out in ram. feature for feature it was actually cheaper than the only 2 laptops I could find that sorta equaled it, one from Dell and One from Sony. Even at the cheaper price, It offered more... the DVD burner was twice as fast... it had Usb2 firewire 400 AND 800. gigabit networking etc... Since I use Lacie Terabyte drives, having the Firewire 800 was a big deal to me.

I went into it with the mindset that if I needed to I could also install windows on the box and dual boot, or use a program like paralles to run windows directly inside of OS X. So no worry there.

Then Sprint came out with the express card for high speed net access. Which made it even better...

After releasing that I didn't need to run antivirus on the net anymore... I was even more impressed.

It took about a week to start feeling comfortable with OS X and really start to play with it hard. I loved it so much I bought a 20' Imac and loaded it up with 3 gigs of ram for my wife, And just recently bought a new Mac Mini that I use to control my entire entertainment system, DVD collection, Music Everything. And it's all controlled via my Iphone. I'm doing things on the Macs that I thought where only pipe dreams just a year ago.

I have CS3, Aperture, Dream weaver, Final Cut Pro, All running all the time, no worries... No crashes. All I can say is this... my remaining 3 PC's have not even been turned on in the last month.

Yea I would say in terms of Video and Music Production, Mac is the way to go. Anything else, I find it a waste of money to purchase one. Just my :2 cents:

bronco67 12-07-2007 03:43 PM

To add to the discussion, don't let anyone tell you a Mac is needed for computer graphics. I've been doing some really nice graphics and animation on a PC for over 12 years.

Most of the visual effects and ad work you see is done on a PC. If you're ever told otherwise by Mac fanboys it's because they live in a small, small world where nothing else exists but their precious Macs.

I'd also like to add that macs are just fucking gay.

JP-pornshooter 12-07-2007 04:01 PM

two years ago i got a small ibook/g3.
one thing i really hate in macs is the file structures, files are not easily found as you can on a pc. mostly for that reason i use pc in my office. but the ibook is great to take along on shoots, trips or just to the coffee house for online use, generally speaking it is too slow for photo editing.

JoeS 12-07-2007 05:05 PM

Ok well I'm glad to see everyone agrees! lol

Evil E 12-07-2007 05:48 PM

Desktop is a PC but i'll get a macbook for coding/nix desktop

Godsmack 12-07-2007 05:58 PM

Mac...yes, apples are overpriced.. in a way...
The OS is so much better than anything i am happy to pay more..
Also the apple hardware has a much higher build quality than any other brand i have bought in the past..

OSX rocks.. i only use windows for statsremote..

aico 12-07-2007 06:11 PM

Vista is nothing compared to OS X

Vista also runs faster on a Mac than a PC.

RandomNinja 12-07-2007 06:19 PM

I prefer Mac, but I use both.

DirtyDanza 12-07-2007 07:47 PM

once you gentiles learn something about something you will switch over to mac so you can join our club...

vista is not the same as osx who ever sold you that can sell you land on the moon if you buy it...

Macs are not PC's either... that sounds like something a PC user says to not feel so behind the times with things....

look I got a mac book pro for a restart it takes me 14 secs from the time I hit restart to the time I am back started... from a cold machine and me hitting power it takes me 17 secs to get on and rolling... PC's won't even close photoshop in under 45 secs....

so just think of the time...

I got a buddy that just got a new PC

it's an HP Intel® Core™2 Quad processor Q6600 with 4 complete execution cores, Intel® Advanced Digital Media Boost, 3GB DDR2 SDRAM

now my macbook has only 2 gig of ram right now as well cause I refuse to put non apple ram in my machine... there is a reason macs work and PC's don't...

anyways

for a test I loaded 1000 pics on my machine and 1000 on his the same pics... created an action in photoshop with 17 layers and did a nice little batch on the 1000 pics... the mac finished 3 min faster than the pc did... now thats just something simple... so lets hear you die hard PC guys explain that to me I am dying to hear your excuses for it?

look I switched over few months back.. took me about 2 days to get used to osx... I will never go back to a pc... they are way to slow.... nothing works on em... you know it's bad when Microsoft offers downgrades.. and also when a Microsoft employee told me at ces that vista is the worst they have had yet....

how the hell do you file your files? in pig laten backwords?

I came from PC I can find shit on anybody's mac faster than I can find files I know the location of on a pc... use finder... as far as structure go's treat your documents folder as your c: drive on pc easy as that

GrouchyAdmin 12-07-2007 07:56 PM

Both. Neither. It's a computer. Who gives a shit, if you get your work done?

I don't see how, hardware is hardware. There are no special cpu/ram/motherboard etc components on a mac versus what you can get in a windows based pc.

JasonB 12-07-2007 08:30 PM

Just bought my wife an IMac & I think it's only a matter of time before I get a Mac. Vista is crap & I'm sick of it. Just from playing around with it for a few days, OSX is making vista look silly.

So then why does Vista run faster on a Mac than a PC, if they are exactly the same?

For the record Leopard is running into problems just like Vista did. Apple is NOT immune to anything.

It's this assholish holier-than-thou attitide that Mac lovers have is one major reason why I'll NEVER switch.

Macheads must be really insecure to have to always want to convert people to Mac. Who fucking cares? You have a Mac you like it, good for fucking you. I'm fine with a PC and I do not wish to join your cult. Now fuck off.
